[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread

So your saying just because of the way a player is acquired, limits the reasons to offer him a new contract? Price is the same calibre of Halladay, so Boston would of given Halladay the same amount. Wouldn't of mattered how long Doc was here, new management wouldn't of even negotiated a contract because they knew it would cost too much in their eyes. The other thing that easily could of happened was sign price to 5 or 7 years come to some agreement, then after a couple years they could of traded him. He's still going to be a dominant pitcher and this way your not stuck with his contract, plus you will get something in return for him, plus you get to us him in his prime with this team for a world series run. -

True, but the Royals have the relief pitchers to bail out their starters, Jay's don't have that. If the Jay's had that then I'd be ok with not having Price. When I found out the Jay's weren't re-signing Price, I said this team will have to sign or trade for 2 or 3 of the best relievers in the game, if they're not going to have a #1 Ace. -

So, why does it matter they're both dominate at what they do, that's what it comes down to what they can do on the field. Of course if it was Doc being a fan you'd feel more devastated, but the fact of the matter would still be we don't have an ace on a team contending for a World Series. Just sounds ludicrous. -

Kind of curious what people think about this proposal. Seems like a few are sold on the Price leaving and believe that money was spent better on other pitchers. Now just remember last year was the first time in 21 years the Jay's made the playoffs, so this is their time to have a chance and we don't have a #1 Ace. Now think imagine if the pitcher wasn't named Price but was named Roy Halladay, and the same situation happened. Knowing that this is the Jay's time to have a chance at a world series, would you still support letting Roy walk without even offering a contact? -

Tbh kind of saw this coming. It was pretty obvious only one of EE or Bautista would be here after this year hopefully they can bring back one. I was kind of leaning towards Bautista over EE anyways, so as long as they can lock up Bautista now it will be ok. -

He took the highest bid because Toronto didn't even TRY. He knew this team was special and I strongly believe if Toronto even tried to talk and we're close Price would of stayed for sure. I'll leave this quote with you from Prices agent. Price's agent, bo McKinnis, told Jim Bowden on SiriusXM radio. "The Blue Jays were the biggest surprise. David would've absolutely gone back there," McKinnis said on Sunday. "That was the toughest part of this and I'm surprised we did not get an offer. "He had a wonderful time there and the bulk of the club is back there and he would've enjoyed being with them." -

I personally don't think it was a good idea to let a bona fide #1 walk without even trying to negotiate. If this team wasn't as strong as they are then I would probably agree with you, but the fact this team isn't a rebuild team they are a team poised to compete without and actual bona fide #1 Ace imo. I really believe Price wanted to be here more then any where, his multiple comments regarding how much he was enjoying his time playing here just showed his heart wanted to be here more. I strongly believe he wouldn't of taken as much money to be a Jay, but once the Jay's didn't even talk about contract of course he's going to go where the money is, he can't wait forever. I would of been happier if they didn't re-sign Estrada and Happ and used that money for Price. Yes Estrada had a great year last year his best ever actually, but how do you know he can repeat you don't his history has no consistency, unlike someone like Price who has shown consistency. I also believe Estradas great season had a lot to do with Navarro, even Zaun has mentioned this, but now Navarro is gone and I think it will effect Estradas game, he's just lucky he has a power hitting team behind him. Estrada 13M Happ 12M That 25M would of signed Price guarantee it. -

So Bautista wants money and long contract, EE just said he wants a long contract and if it's not long he won't even talk about money. I think next year Blue Jays will have only 1 of these 2 players, Jose or Edwin. Who knows maybe they will pull a Canucks and lose them both(Lu/Sch). Personally I'm ok with either or, being here as a DH only role. I just don't see them both being here after this year. -

From what I have been seeing, lots of pitchers are the ones who don't like it which is understandable. But it goes both ways I'm sure batters don't like seeing pitchers celebrate when they strike them out. There will always be 2 sides to the issue, personally there is a time and place for these antics to happen. You don't do these kind of things when your blowing out another team, or in the start or middle of the season. And I think players know this and to why you don't see it all the time, unless it's maybe extra innings to win a game. Times when I expect to see these kind of celebrations are in the Playoffs of course and near the end of the season, when teams are playing to make the playoffs especially in close games. Emotions are something everyone has and sometimes you just want to let it out, I think they should be allowed for the right situations. As for Bautista and his bat thing, I don't see anything wrong for it because of the situation it was, game was intense and it's playoffs emotions are high. Now if he did something like that in the middle of the season, I don't think I would support it because it's not necessary. Update: Strasburg, Harper's teammate has said he doesn't like it go figure a pitcher. Ben Revere, which this one kind of caught me a little off guard, basically implied he didn't like how Bautista did his bat toss in the playoffs. He did say he would support his teammate, but if it was on another team he wouldn't agree with it. "I'll say this, if you hit a 600-foot home run, you can pimp it all you want. If you get mad, then that's on you. But if you hit a home run and it goes maybe to the second or third row and you bat flip, I don't know," Revere said. http://www.thescore.com/news/981556 -

Don't forget The Rock is going to have some type of involvement. Could be with Roman regarding the championship, or it could be with Shane and helping take out the Authority. -

Harper came out and spoke about it and said basically MLB is boring but said tiring, that it prevents players from showing emotions and it needs it. Sergio Romo 3 time World Series Champion with San Fran, told Harper to shut his mouth. Theres much more. http://www.thescore.com/news/979933 Now a bunch of other MLB players are coming out and backing Harper. http://www.thescore.com/news/980048 -

Goose Gossage calls Bautista a 'disgrace to the game' "Bautista is a f---ing disgrace to the game," Gossage told ESPN's Andrew Marchand. "He's embarrassing to all the Latin players, whoever played before him. Throwing his bat and acting like a fool, like all those guys in Toronto.(Yoenis) Cespedes, same thing." "He's a great ambassador for the game," Bautista explained. "I don't agree with him. I'm disappointed that he made those comments, but I'm not going to get into it with him. I would never say anything about him, no matter what he said about me. I have too much good stuff to worry about his comments. Today is my first game (of the spring), getting ready for a new season, hopefully, we will whoop some more ass." "It is a joke," Gossage exclaimed. "The game is becoming a freaking joke because of the nerds who are running it. "A bunch of f---ing nerds running the game. You can't slide into second base. You can't take out the f---ing catcher because (Buster) Posey was in the wrong position and they are going to change all the rules. You can't pitch inside anymore. I'd like to knock some of these f---ers on their ass and see how they would do against pitchers in the old days." http://www.thescore.com/news/979676 Where did this guy come out from? -

How fast times change! I still think Bautista was just mad at Rogers for not allowing the Money to spend on pitching. I understand his frustration, but this is still a good team and I think he's seeing the bigger picture. Report: Bautista willing to negotiate to stay in Toronto Despite Jose Bautista initially indicating there is no room for negotiations with respect to his contract demands, he may now be open to giving the Toronto Blue Jays' front office some leeway. Bautista publicly stated last month that he had extended the terms he deemed acceptable and wasn't willing to budge. However, Jon Heyman of MLB Networkreported Tuesday that he hears Bautista prefers to stay in Toronto and is willing to negotiate. http://www.thescore.com/news/978647 -

Exactly that's the problem, team has way too many power hitters, looks good on paper but doesn't always win you small ball type of games, which happens a lot in playoffs and tight games. Saw it a lot in the playoffs last year, to many guys going for the home run instead of playing small ball to move the players. -

I'm a little confused with WWE, Sunny who the WWE has in the HOF has no problems still representing her as a superstar for WWE. Sunny is a head case, selling her HOF ring saying she doesn't want to relive her past and is done with WWE, and is now a PORN STAR, but WWE still has her as a Superstar. But the WWE won't even give Chyna a chance to talk with because she's a Porn Star... If the WWE can still support Sunny, then Chyna does deserve to be in the HOF.
