  1. Dreger reported on the draft floor that the Edmonton offer included a 1st, 2nd and a top prospect. I believe Edmonton had more than 1 first that year, so I don't imagine that was the 7th OA, but it would be interesting to know who the prospect was. Dreger starts about the offer at 1:50 Regardless, Bo is a beauty and I'm very happy with how it worked out.
  2. Fair enough, I didn't know his junior numbers, I was going off of current offensive production. Hopefully Brise picks it up!
  3. I seem to remember people comparing his play style to Hammer in the young stars tourney. If that's the case, then this doesn't concern me much.
  4. Were you at the game? They were sitting a few rows ahead of me in the same section.
  5. Hutton is leading the Calder race. Canucks are leading the league. My cold is going away. Everything's coming up Bigturk!
  6. Giving Hansen the ol' hook? It'll be really interesting if a trade goes down in the next couple of days/weeks. Benning has said repeatedly that he will make room if the kids show they can play. With Gaunce, Grenier, Kenins and Shinkaruk as call up potential, we have a ton of forward depth and a trade could definitely be made to accommodate a lineup such as yours.
  7. Botchford: Virtanen the face of dominant young Canucks line in 5-2 win over Edmonton By Jason Botchford, The Province October 1, 2015 Story Photos ( 6 ) Jake Virtanen (77) is taken off the ice after taking a puck to the face. At least it went in. Photograph by: Jason Franson , CP EDMONTON — It may be the only time Jake Virtanen is cheered in Edmonton after scoring. He was brought to his knees when a Yannick Weber slap shot careened off the side of his head and into the net. Officials waved aggressively for medical help, while his teammates leaned in. "Next thing I remember, (Bo) Horvat is on top of me screaming, 'You scored!'" Virtanen said. Virtanen had a pretty good idea right then he'd be okay. He waved to the crowd, walking off as coolly as the day he arrived at the Young Stars tournament, not long before he obliterated Connor McDavid. Oiler fans couldn't help but cheer. The kid is tough, you've got to give him that. Virtanen quickly checked Twitter and saw people comparing him to Doug Glatt, the bouncer-turned-hockey player in the movie Goon who used his backside to score a goal. He laughed, got the side of his brow stitched and got back into the game as soon as he could. You think he wanted to miss a second of that? Virtanen, Horvat and Sven Baertschi took Edmonton by storm Thursday, rollicking their way to 10 points. They were fast, powerful and overwhelmed an Oilers roster oozing with prospects. Horvat said after the game: "I hope this line is together for a long time." The rest of us just hope it's together for a game next week. If preseason means a lick, they have earned it. Canucks veterans haven't had so much as a heartbeat since the Prince George training camp two weeks ago. Really, there has been only one who has bothered since Day 1 and that's Horvat. He has saved his best for last. If you haven't noticed, Horvat has been flying up and down ice rinks for a couple of weeks now. It seems people are numb to it now, because if he had done any of this last preseason they would have had to close down Yaletown on account of drool. You want to keep this guy on a third line? Good luck. Horvat scored two goals, setting up another, and breathing a lot of life into two linemates who needed it. Virtanen had been benched for the final nine minutes Tuesday in San Jose. He responded by absolutely flying in the first period in Edmonton, making things happen with and without the puck. On the first goal, he pressed down hard on the gas, leaving Andrew Ference with wind burn before he wheeled in the corner and set up Horvat in front. On that face-goal, Virtanen was all over the front of the net. He was doing everything you could have hoped for from a teenager. Baertschi, on the other side of that same line, was equally impressive, piling up four assists. It's a development of huge import to the 2015-16 Canucks season. You see, this is supposed to be Baertschi time in Vancouver. You're forgiven if you haven't yet felt the plate tectonics motion. Until Thursday, Baertschi hadn't done anything at all. http://www.theprovince.com/sports/botchford+virtanen+face+dominant+young+canucks+line+over+edmonton/11407140/story.html
  8. True. I figure he's at least going to get a few games in the regular season though. It would be nice to test the line further in pre-season, but there will still be opportunities afterwards.
  9. As a result of last nights game. Virtanen has 0.8 PPG in this pre-season. 4pts (2g, 2A) in 5 games. Granted 3/4 of that came in one game. I hope that line of Baertschi - Horvat - Virtanen gets another shot to see if they can produce consistently. I obviously don't expect them to duplicate that on a nightly basis (10pts in one night for a line is Sedin like), but it would be great if they could keep those scoring chances coming.
  10. Yeah, from what I've seen, he's pretty tenacious when perusing the puck, despite his size.
  11. Haha Fair enough, no game is for everyone. It has changed a lot though. If you've played Last of Us or Uncharted and enjoyed them, I'd recommend giving it a second shot.
  12. Tomb Raider will be free as a part of "Games with Gold" starting tomorrow (September 16). If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it!
  13. "Fun" Seriously though, I loved that game %95 of the time. The only time I didn't enjoy it was when I was constantly failing on the same thing and really, that's my own fault, not the games. Hope you're enjoying it!
  14. Was that guy a troll or something? I'm not familiar with him.
  15. If Virtanen makes the team and finds a scoring touch early, this would be a fun lineup but he would really have to show that he deserved it. Outside of the Sedin line, Burrows is a perfect 3rd liner. That line of Burrows, Horvat and Hansen would be one of the hardest working lines in Hockey.
  16. Lol, you're the second person to say I look like Kassian after seeing this photo. This is a better depiction of me, I had shaved my beard at the start of the playoffs as I like to start my playoff beards fresh and at that point, not much of it was back. It makes me look considerably different.
  17. When Virtanen is a difference maker on the big club, can we please pass on "Big Bert" to "Big Virt"?
  18. At the pub during game 5 and Gino walks in!
  19. It's going to be fun to watch. I'm really interested to see how he matches up against CHL competition and on smaller ice.
  20. Horvat was also 19 and hadn't played any professional hockey. I think WD was justified in his doubt and I give him credit, because when Horvat proved him wrong, WD changed his mind instead of stubbornly sticking to his guns. Also, Linden Vey. Another young guy that was given every opportunity under WD. Then there's Kenins who worked his butt off and played well. He was rewarded with a regular roster spot down the stretch. With this in mind, I have to say that I completely disagree with your assessment of WD and his asset management. Baertschi has a good amount of experience in the pro leagues now (NHL included) and his skill set revolves around scoring. I think WD will give him the opportunity to earn that spot in the top 6. I genuinely believe that Baertschi controls his fate at this point.
  21. My super wildest dreams you ask? Why they would be that Baertschi and Horvat turn into Kane and Toews. I don't expect that level of awesomeness but dang it would be sweet.
  22. I like this lineup. Burrows and Kassian could be interchangable depending on who is hot at the time with the twins. Horvat has played so well with Kennins and Hansen, I'd hope it would translate to other players as well, but it will have to be tested sooner or later. If Baertschi transitions well, that's a solid second line. What would you do with Clendenning? He's waiver elligable next year and I don't imagine he would clear.
  23. The problem that I see here with Baerschi, or at least to my understanding, is that because he is waiver eligible, we don't have the option to leave him in the AHL. If we waive him, I'd say it's a pretty good bet that he gets picked up, so it comes down to him making the roster, sitting in the press box or getting traded.
  24. Hockey's future report from prior to the 2013/2014 season. Not exactly current but has some nice information on his post draft years. http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/sven_baertschi/
  25. I'm not sure what you mean by "appease the fanbase". Bo Horvat earned his spot and has been valuble since he started. The rest have been call ups for injuries and, for the most part, have proved to be excellent depth. These were all good/necessary managment decisions.
