  1. He really is leaps and bounds ahead of his age group. Makes me wonder how he would have looked in the CHL.
  2. All of Dahlen's 4 goals today. Edit: Fixed order of goals.
  3. Apparently he has a 4th goal in the game.
  4. I would say 3rd best behind Matthews and Laine. But I'm just nit picking. As Many others have said, we're less than 10 months removed from the draft. Tkachuck looks good right now, but let's give Olli a few years to see what he can do. They're still only 18/19 years old, and their careers haven't even started to take shape yet.
  5. He could be thinking about going back to UND, but that quote could also be because they're in playoffs and he doesn't want any distractions for himself or his team. Let it play out.
  6. Honestly, I'd be happy with either scenario.
  7. From Friedman's 30 thoughts. 2. College signings will dominate much of the player movement over the next few weeks, but it won’t just be free agents. At least two prominent draft picks are expected to join the jamboree. Vancouver’s Brock Boeser (23rd overall, 2015) is coming out, with the only real debate being whether or not he plays NHL games this season. It’s rare a player chooses an AHL tryout over burning a year of their big-league deal, but Zach Werenski did it last season. Lake Erie was a power and won the Calder Cup. AHL Utica is hitting above its weight class this season, battling St. John’s and Toronto for two playoff spots in the North Division. Extended time there is no guarantee. If Boeser wants to play at the highest level, is Vancouver going to say no? http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thoughts-whats-delaying-nhls-olympic-decision/
  8. Training camp will be a big factor. I think we might see Virtanen start the season in the A again. Boeser could go either way, we need to see how he translates in pre-season. I think Goldobin makes the team. It seems like he's proved all that he can in the A and is ready for the next step.
  9. http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/nikolay-goldobin-says-hell-play-against-sharks-thursday Newest Canuck Nikolay Goldobin says he’ll play against Sharks Thursday San Jose Sharks' Nikolay Goldobin, top, of Russia, celebrates his goal against the Vancouver Canucks with teammate Brent Burns during the third period of a pre-season NHL hockey game in Vancouver on September 22, 2015. The Vancouver Canucks made another move on Tuesday to acquire young talent, getting forward Nikolay Goldobin from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for veteran forward Jannik Hansen. The 21-year-old Goldobin, a former first-round pick, has played 46 games this season for the American Hockey League's San Jose Barracuda. He has 15 goals and 41 points. Darryl Dyck / THE CANADIAN PRESS Offensive-minded winger Nikolay Goldobin will be in the lineup Thursday against his old team, the San Jose Sharks. Where he’s playing remains to be seen. After acquiring Goldobin, Vancouver GM Jim Benning mused that the former first-round pick likely fizzled in San Jose because the Sharks had no room for him in their top six. The Canucks, of course, have room just about everywhere. The Canucks seem to want to keep Loui Eriksson with Bo Horvat for a while, hoping they develop some chemistry, leaving a spot open on the left side of that line as long as Sven Baertschi is out. Reid Boucher had a good game in that spot Tuesday against Detroit, so the inclination will be to keep that line together. Thing is, playing with Horvat is probably Goldobin’s best chance to make a good first impression. Good thing Goldobin has some versatility. “I’m nervous to play against my team tomorrow,” Goldobin said. “I can play both wings. “Most of the time, I played left wing but lately I’ve been playing right wing and I actually like it.” Head coach Willie Desjardins would only commit to playing Goldobin in the top nine. He seems to like the Sedins with Markus Granlund, who has had some success on the “top line” which means Goldobin is playing with either Sutter or Horvat. It says here, Desjardins should make it Horvat, and play Goldobin on the power play which probably means he’ll be playing with Sutter and on the PK.
  10. Yeah. I'm disappointed but I understand. I'm in the whole "new toy" mindset. No patience at all.
  11. I keep hearing different things. A lot of people saying he won't be playing tonight but the game preview from the Canucks facebook says he might be. This seems to confirm that he won't though. I can't wait to see him lace up.
  12. Neat. North Eastern only has to regular season games left. It's a long shot, but depending on how their playoffs go and if Gaudette chooses to sign, it would be cool to see a Goldobin - Gaudette - Virtanen line for a little bit.
  13. From what I can tell, Utica is currently 3 points out of a playoff spot. Would Goldobin be eligible to play for Utica if they make the playoffs?
  14. Hockey DB has him listed as LW, elite prospects has him listed as LW/RW and Wikipedia has him listed as RW. I'm very confused..
  15. Does anyone see a comparison with Hunter Shinkaruk? They're similar size, both left wingers, touted for high end scoring potential. Goldobin has had more success in the AHL, but otherwise, they seem like similar prospects to me. Am I way off base on this?
  16. I mentioned this elsewhere. If Gaudette signs and heads to Utica, along with Dahlen (and possibly Boeser if he doesn't earn a spot on the Canucks). Then we add in Brisebois and possibly Neil to go with Demko in his 2nd year of professional hockey and potentially another season for Virtanen, Subban and McEneny. The Canucks will be very well represented in the A next season. It will be a lot of fun watching those games with so many prospects to keep an eye on. If they add a few pieces and become competitive, it could be super beneficial for all of them.
  17. I don't think he's specifically a replacement for anyone, just another talented option at either position. The more we have, the more of a chance there is to have one develop into a legitimate nhler and in the event he does, then we consider who he replaces. I've found that there are too many variables on NHL rosters to slot prospects in a few years down the line. That is, unless they are blue chip prospects that are all but guaranteed to meet their potential.
