At least we can agree on this one!
-
Yeah, sure. Raymond was given nothing but free space and time to make the perfect shot and somehow found a way into the tiny hole above Luo's shoulder. The second goal was screened. Hard to stop what you can't see. Seriously, with that kind of vision for the game you should look into becoming a ref. You'd fit right in.

According to the NHL.com's stats, we've allowed 56 3rd period goals this season and scored only 41. *sigh* Edit to add: Only Buffalo has scored fewer 3rd period goals than we have. 9 teams have allowed more 3rd period goals than we have and Florida is tied with us with the same number of 3rd period goals against but in 2 fewer games so it's really 10 teams.
-
Right?! Wonder how many of those minus points came from his own goals?
-
Can`t wait to hear how the Luo haters blame him for this game using his undeservedly low SV%. So mad at yet another 3rd period breakdown and complete lack of fight back by the team. Arrrrrrrrrrgggggg!!!!!!
-
That makes 2 of us then!!!
-
Wow, dude. That's weak. First you repeatedly make a false claim to try to say how it's all Luo's fault and when I prove that basis of your argument wrong you attempt to change your argument to a whinny "well, it's just not good enough." Are you saying the team's play has been?! If so, are you partying with Rob Ford? I didn't ignore what Torts said. He was right to say that after the Boston game because we all know that 3rd (if I remember correctly..) goal was weak and Luo should have it. No question. But what YOU seem to be ignoring is that Torts didn't just say we needed one more save from Luo. What he actually said was, “To me, the game changes, we need another big offensive play. [Daniel Sedin] has a chance to make that. I think we need another save from [Luongo]. I don’t think one person determines winning or losing a game, but that to me is the game tonight. I think both teams are pretty much even in chances: we don’t get one or two more big offensive plays and we don’t get one of two saves, they do and that’s where we’re that." And when asked about Luo's comments after the game, Torts said, "I appreciate Lou saying that, but this is a team thing here that we’re going through and we’ll go through it together.” (source) So, beyond ignoring everything that Torts actually said after the Boston game, why are you ignoring when he said "We've forgotten how to defend." about weeks worth of games, not just one goal in one game? All in all, Luo's kept his team in it every game he's played. In fact, so has Lack. So tell me, if it's all Luo "costing" us games, why haven't we won any of the last 5 games Lack has started? Did he cost us the game to LA when he gave up a single goal and had a .950 SV%? You want to put the blame on him and poor Eriksson for the Anaheim debacle? How about the amazing games he had against Phoenix and Detroit where he gave up only one but we got shut out and still lost? Shall we string him up for the one weak goal and 4 total goals with a .882 SV% against Winnipeg? And, please, oh sultan of "blame Luo," explain how it was Luo's fault we lost the LA game in which Luo faced 48 shots, gave up only 2 goals and had a .958 SV%. Or how about the Nashville game, in which he gave up 2 on 26 shots for a .923 SV%. Explain why, if it's just Luo costing us game after game, we still have a GA/G that's 12th in the league. Explain how teams like Chicago, Winnipeg and Toronto all have more wins than we do through the same number of games played despite having a higher GA/G than we do. (And Ottawa has only 1 less win in 1 less game played despite having a 3.07 GA/G!) If we need Luo to give us Vezina level goaltending every game just to give us a chance to win then you're saying our team not only sucks, we're one of the worst in the league because other teams sure are able to get wins with far less. But sure, Daniel said "Luongo kept us in it." just for the empty platitude he had absolutely no reason to say rather than because he actually believed it. Of course it's not because Luo made some spectacular saves and was scored against by being interfered with, having an icing call not made, having a goal deflect in off his own D in the blue paint, and having yet another goal go in after a guy was left loitering around on the side of the net unchecked. Whatever makes you happy.

Repeating the same lie over and over doesn't make it true. So let me say it one more time for the cheap seats: LUO HAS NOT HAD 6 STRAIGHT GAMES WITH A SV% BELOW .900!!! Here, I'll even make it easy for you to do the rather simple click work to double check that fact: Here's the link to Luo's CDC game log where you can very easily see that Luo's SV% in the last 6 games look like this: Montreal - .857 SV% Boston - .906 SV% Chicago - .897 SV% Edmonton - .842 SV% Phoenix - .879 SV% Nashville - .923 SV% Oh, and let's not forget that most of those games were during Tort's suspension, after which he said. “We have forgotten how to defend and no matter what is going wrong with your team offensively, to have any chance of competing you need to defend and we’re not defending..." Ever notice that there's a different word for "goaltending" than there is for "defending"? Take a wild guess why that is. But sure, let's take your belief that Valk "sure looked awkward with [Taylor] saying that" as proof that Luo played badly. Surely your opinion carries more weight than Daniel Sedin, who said, "We had enough chances to win this game. We didn't. There's nothing to say. Luongo kept us in this one." And yes, your opinion is yours and you're entitled to be wrong. But that doesn't mean others won't call you on it, especially when you keep repeating supposed facts that are not true.
-
Dude, if you can't even look at a player's game log to avoid posting complete falsehoods as "proof" for your assertions your opinion doesn't hold a lot of weight. You obviously miss the simplest of details, like how even the Sportsnet guys said Luo played well tonight. Or how goals against determines SV%. If the team causes a goal (like Edler did tonight, just for one example) it effects the goalie's stats, as it does when players are left unmanned right in front of the net for quick tip-ins.

NOT true in any way! Luo had a .906 in Boston. His 3 games before that were below .900, but so was the team`s effort! (And btw he had an .897 against Chicago, the best scoring team in the league. Not below .89!) His 5 games before that were all over .920. Stomp your feet, ignore reality and blame Luo based on the score alone, but Luo played well.
-
Mostly good effort by the team. Definitely a step in the right direction, just not as big of a step as I was hoping for. Disgusted, but not shocked, by all the fans blaming Luo yet again while ignoring the huge saves he made. *sigh*

I would think if he had a concussion they would have said it and likely even ruled him out for the Olympics. Concussions are the one injury they don't lie about, nor should they. A brain injury is way more important than playing in the Olympics, no matter how much he wants to and hopefully everyone involved understands that.

(Please!) Go, Canucks, Go!!

It's definitely the right decision to sit Hank again. He's not helping the team playing at the level he's able to right now. He should have never been allowed back. In fact, he should have been sat sooner. He's tough as nails and would probably have them sew an arm back on and just tape his stick to the hand and send him back out there, but that doesn't mean he's really any use just by being there. I am really glad to hear that we're getting Richardson and Higgins back though. I hope they're both actually good to go. We desperately need to win the next 2 games before the Olympic break so they can go into the break with a more positive feeling than they're feeling right now.
-
And he's a big part of our PK. We really need Richardson back and I do hope it's nothing serious. Gotta say though, I'm worried about the Olympic break. I thought the Christmas break would do our tired guys good, but we've gotten worse since then, not better. Here's hoping that trend reverses with the Olympic break!

Burrows scored twice in the SJ series last year in the playoffs (games 3 & 4). He scored last in the regular season on April 15 of last year, that means he didn't score in the final 5 regular season games and the first 2 playoff games. So it's absolutely not true to say he hasn't scored since "twenty or so games before the end of last season." (In actuality, he scored 6 times in the final 20 regular season games last year.) Burr is struggling this year, but he's also been hampered by injuries all year which have made keeping his normal high level of fitness up and learning the new coach's system that much harder. And you can tell he's feeling the pressure to score, which obviously isn't helping. He may not deserve a complete free pass, but he surely deserves an extension before people start calling for him to be traded. (I know you didn't say that, just speaking generally.)
-
I agree about Burr playing with all heart. He doesn't know any other way. Even not scoring, he's an asset on the ice. He's always hounding the puck. Like Kes, he often draws more than one guy's attention in front of the net, freeing up someone else to score. And last night he was doing great controlling the PP. I'm sure he is a little rusty, though I haven't seen any evidence of his lacking his usual strength. He just seems like he can't catch a break and worse, like knowing that we need scoring and he's not providing any is weighing on him. I could actually feel the anxiety coming off of him before his jaw was broken and 2 games back it's already returning. I think a big part of it for him is he just needs to remember he's awesome and calm down. ...And maybe make a sacrifice to the hockey gods because if the poor guy didn't have bad luck this season he wouldn't have any luck at all. I don't know what's the deal with Hank and Danny. I hope with Hank it was part of the injuries. To be honest, I'm glad the Iron Man streak is over so he can finally just sit whenever he needs a few days to rest or heal. He'll do his team more good missing a few games and then playing at a higher level when he returns than staying in and only able to give it a fraction of his normal level. As for Danny, I'm hoping it's just a lull right now. He's still doing the right things most games, just not getting rewarded for it. I can't imagine he's holding anything back for the Olympics though I do fear that the Olympics are a point of stress for both Hank and Danny.

Injuries suck, but if we can't win without a few people in our lineup, we're never going to. Injuries happen. Our production cannot afford to be that fragile! We're not winning because we're 22nd in the league for G/G (2.44). Our scoring problem has just continued from the last season. In fact, our scoring was better last season (2.54). Here's hoping they can figure it out soon and the hockey gods will finally, finally let poor Burr get a goal and that will open the flood gates. Go, Canucks, go! Get Points for Torts!
-
He looked pretty hurt after the slash (Lack even had to give him a pull so he could finally reach the bench). Hopefully it's nothing more than a little after cramp muscle soreness that he needs to sit off. Our PK needs him!
-
Torts deserved the suspension and though it was more than I had hoped for, it's fair. He did the wrong thing for the right reason, but it was still wrong. I hope this is a call to arms for our team, bonding them even tighter together. I hope they fight even harder for the points in every game for Torts. In fact, I hope they make "Two For Torts!" their motto for the next 15 days. Go, Canucks, go!
