Unwritten rules of attending a hockey game (Article)
poetica replied to Tom Sestito's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Well, players have said they get energy from the crowd, so maybe the fans in attendance cheering can help. If not, at least it's fun everyone can join in together. Banging on the glass so people will look at you is selfish and pointless. If you think fans cheering is annoying perhaps watching in absolute silence in your living room is the best option? -

Oh, good. (I didn't bother to read the entire story.) Glad to know I'm not the only one who finds that annoying. -

I would add do not bang on the glass like a jackarse. It's loud, annoying, and pointless. You want to be a part of the game, try cheering! -
You're welcome to your opinion, but at this point an opinion is the best any of us can do since we weren't actually there, weren't involved and can't be actually sure of what happened. Unlike some, I prefer to assume the best in absence of proof of the worst. If only there were people paid to ask the people involved questions about what happened and then report on what they said.... But alas, we live in the day of "I see, therefor I assume" and "proof by retweet."

Most of that didn't make sense, not the least of which was the suggestion I go back and re-read the Luo threads where I (supposedly) said Luo was "the inevitable trade"? Whaaa? Perhaps you are confusing me with someone else? And playing fan-ier than thou because I replied to your posts? LOL Great argument. Gagner being "in the vicinity" means nothing, especially when he was on the bench and it is very clear Kass was talking to someone on the ice, at times feet away from the boards. Ignore it all you want, but it won't change it. And congrats for using your word of the day calendar and getting "obfuscate" in a sentence. Too bad you couldn't find those NEWS stories to back up YOUR claim that "respected sports channels" were backing the story. Perhaps your attention span is so short that you have forgotten this conversation started because I posted exactly what I think Kass said, to whom and why. But apparently juvenile digs at what you think my social life is like (lol!) is more important than actually paying attention. What a complete waste of my time.

YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, so you're just going to ignore what I said about watching your own video and looking at where Kass' eyes are directed? Majorly inconvenient when your own evidence disproves you, huh? But please do link to the sports news stories covering this egregious incident. Funny, I didn't even find a mention of it at TSN's write up of the game. I don't remember CBC saying anything about it either, and they hold a grudge against the Canucks like we owe them money, cheated on their sister and ran over their dog. The "story" you linked before from The Province was a blog written by Botchford. If you think he is respectable or anything approaching a sports journalist, you're hopeless. And the only mention I could find at Sportsnet was an opinion piece by Mackenzie Liddel (who is described on the Sportsnet site as an "author" not a reporter) which uses tweets of other people's uninformed opinions as "proof." So, where are these respectable sports channels who are saying this happened? If they do think it, why aren't they asking the people involved? Are you saying they're bad at their jobs? And are you freaking kidding me? You think neither team would have had a comment? What world are you living in? It's certainly not this one with a 24-hour news cycle, even in the sports world, where every opportunity to make a story is ceased as if it were the last spot on a life raft. Even if the teams had no comment, the reporters would have still asked the questions and still showed the response. Those of us paying attention have seen it time and time again. If you're going to abandon all pretense of common sense, I wouldn't be calling anyone else dim!
-
Why not pay a little more attention to your own video evidence? Where are Kass's eyes pointing? Level with his height and directly across from his own position and then later even further out. In fact, at one point he's clearly looking around the LEFT side of the ref standing in front of him, which is the opposite direction of the bench. He's obviously not talking to someone sitting on the bench, which means he is not talking to Gagner! Just because some organizations employ bloggers to give their opinions doesn't automatically elevate those opinions to facts. It's still up to the savvy ready to fact check and consider the source. If TSN or Sportsnet as organizations truly believed Kass was talking to Gagner, why not ask either of them? Or Eakins? Or anyone else? If they did, I can't find it. Isn't that interesting. Your assumptions are not proof. Other people's assumptions are not proof. And it seems that no one who could offer proof has volunteered or even been asked to do so. If TSN or Sportsnet truly believe he did that, they'd get a soundbite/quote to use. They didn't. The only people saying that happened are the opinion people, not those who directly interact with the people actually involved. Now, use a little common sense and think about why that might be.
-
Okay. Prove it. Link to a quote from anyone from the Oilers organization saying that was what happened. Eakins went out of his way to call Kassian "disturbing" after the injury, but he not only didn't mention Kassian supposedly making fun of Gagner for having to wear the facial protection but was actually really complimentary about the Canucks during his post game comments. (He even said we may be playing as well as any team in the league right now.) As far as I have been able to find, none of the Oilers players accused Kassian of chirping Gagner either. You can't tell me someone wouldn't have said it if it were true. They would be outraged, rather than just depressed after another loss. The only people saying it where the ones who have no direct knowledge of what actually happened and want to fan the flames of controversy. Just because some people want to assume worst and ignore what happened directly preceding because reality doesn't make nearly as juicy a story doesn't mean they're right.
-
Boychuck may have been reckless, as Kassian was with his stick, but he almost certainly didn't intend to break Raymond's back anymore than I think Kass intended to break Gagner's jaw, meaning it was just a terrible accident. Couldn't agree with you more about Horton though. They thought it was so horrid that Rome didn't show enough concern, but then showed zero for Raymond. And yet what was the only story anyone cared to tell?
-
People are yet again just viewing the Canucks with the worst possible filter. Kass was hit by Perron, who obviously got his hand deliberately high into Kass' head. He then skated over in front of the Oilers bench and chirps Kass. Kass was responding to both, including what looks to me as asking him "What was that?" probably in reference to the fist to his jaw/head mere seconds before. There was a reason Perron got the only penalty there, people! Had Kass been chirping Gagner he would have likely gotten (and deserved!) an unsportsmanlike penalty. Kass had absolutely no reason to be talking to Gagner. And no one has any valid reason to assume the worst. Oh, and by the way, the last time I checked Boychuck never apologized to Raymond for that accident, nor did the team ever apologize for their classless fans chanting "flopper" at him. And I must have missed Keith sending Danny a "get well, sorry I'm a jerk" basket. So stop acting like Kass is the most vile person on the planet because he accidentally caused an injury in a sport where people are hurt every single night.

[GDT]Vancouver Canucks vs Colorado Avalanche Dec,8,2013 SNET-P
poetica replied to 3KBieksa's topic in Canucks Talk
Jinxiest commentating of all time! ARGH! -
Oh no! Goalie drama!! LOL Hope the cameras are catching all of this for the next installment of As the Net Turns. LOL

All of the pointless SCF talk aside, Luo was awesome last night. Without him, we would have been in a deep hole in the 1st! Our biggest problem was, yet again, attitude. Even Hank (?) said they took it for granted that they could beat such a lowly team and we've seen that cocky attitude for years. One would think they would learn their lesson after an embarrassing loss to a team they should beat, but apparently not yet. That's why I was happy to hear Torts rip them a new one, saying it was disrespectful and there are no easy games in this league. They have to come to play every game, every period, every shift! No one gets to coast to an easy win and you sure as hell don't get to coast to an easy Cup.
-
Fixed it for you. (The 4th goal in Game 7 was an EN.)
-
Actually, Luo's SV% for the SCF Boston series was .891 and I believe his GAA for the series was around 3.42, so not anywhere close to the numbers you gave. And in our 4 home games his SV% was .957. So, to say that we couldn't have won thanks to Luo's performances in Boston is just wrong. It made it harder, no doubt. But it shouldn't have been impossible! Fun fact: Even if Luo had still allowed 3 in Game 7 but we managed to win that game, we still would have only won 3 games in which Luo gave up 3 goals during that entire playoff run (and none when he gave up more.) Just to get to the Finals, Boston had to win 2 games in which Thomas gave up 3 goals, a game in which he gave up 4 goals, and a game in which he gave up 5 goals. So, Boston "overcame" their goalie more times just to make it to the Finals than we needed to to win the Cup. And the fact that they were able to and we weren't is exactly why they won it and we didn't.

Scoring 101 – for Vancouver Canucks only
poetica commented on 1thought's blog entry in Scoring 101 – for Vancouver Canucks only
Hey, I like Canada's Worst Driver too! -
That's just a statement of fact, not a chirp. Still makes me want to biatch slap him though...
-
LOL Lack delights me. He's freaking adorable. Come on, Luo. Have dinner with the poor kid already! (Even if it is just at Ikea...)
-
Go, Canucks, go!
-
LOL @ the tire pump!! The zingers didn't stop there though....

Horrid call from a ref in perfect position to see the play. Inexcusable! And more proof that the NHL continues to have a reffing problem, be it plain ole incompetency or something worse. If only they showed any sign that they notice or care! Booth apparently lost all skating ability. WTH? That was the one thing he still had going for him. Definitely time for him to go. The entire team needs shot accuracy practice and lots of it. ASAP! The team also needs a refresher on how to handle odd man rushes. How many have been badly defended and resulted in a goal in just the last few games? Going to light a candle and offer it to the hockey gods. A little luck might be exactly what this team needs to get it going.

Pissed the score isn't tied as it should be. Complete BS call by refs on that one! Come on, 'Nucks. Channel that anger into a goal fest against Lehtonen in the 3rd!
