[Signing] Islanders re-sign Noah Dobson
combover replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Does he? he missed out on every major UFA and he was targeting them and miller going back to the draft. there's a story that he is to blame for the off season failure to actually improve. Lou lam is a dinosaur his ego, tactics and petty games cost his club. Lol good signings but no improvements so he can watch as CBJ passes him in the standings and NjD starts pushing to and his stars get another year older. this will be his last season a GM when they miss the P.Os -

Njd has some solid pieces no way does Lou want to see miller end up there. Especially after CBj added Little Johnny -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
combover replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So we magically turn into contenders by keeping all the same players that have missed the playoffs and have zero cap to improve or resign the others. Better “hope “ for no injuries because we have zero depth at any position and no youth to set in. millers contract will handcuff this club. If traded We put ourselves in a position to fill holes and gain cap to actually improve instead of stay the same. 3 or 4 good years if we’re lucky and with the way he plays injuries become another huge factor at his age. signing players to retirement contracts also have other risks. -

Lou lam gets canned if the devils get miller and bump them out CBJ just got massively better. id be sure that the entire world knows I’m talking to NJD about miller. Maybe yet millers agent talk to the NJD. lou lam likes playing games let’s plays some games. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
combover replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They flat out said this club is not in a position to let valuable assets leave for free. they have said it over and over we are not in the position at this time that we can go all in for a cup and lose players like miller. Now the real question is ownership will they allow management to do what’s best for the club long term or will they undermine the process for some short sight damaging “chance” for 1 round of playoffs. AKA the JB model. If miller walks for free I’d expect JR to resign such would indicate we still have the same problem that we’ve had for over a decade meddling owners and nothing will change until the ownership does. -
[Signing] Flames sign Nazem Kadri

What’s reasonable almost doesn’t matter. As a UFA he won’t make less than 50 mill which I doubt he’d sign for here or anywhere. And 60 isn’t possible with our mismanaged cap unless we throw away futures to get rid of players contracts. both of which hurt this club long term and really can afford. The risk is all vancouvers and it comes with a term commitment that will cost to get rid of. So really What are we signing him for? Is it The ability to stay a “hopeful” fringe wildcard team that struggles to achieve even mediocrity? (Aka JBs plan) maybe a round or two if we get lucky. He won’t be the player we need at 8+ mill per when if/when this group gets to be a true contender. Previous management left this team in terrible shape for the present and the future we can’t start to fix and undo things if we stay the same. 5years 8mill max id offer miller. (And I still rather see him traded) even With that we’d still have to eat atleast 1 year of him not playing at 8 mill value. And that’s gambling last year wasn’t his career year. he can sign a 3 year deal for 10-12mill when that’s over since everyone’s so convinced he’ll still be effective 8 mill player till he’s 38 he should have no problem getting 4 per. I’m just not into handcuffing this club with unmovable long term albatross contracts for 30+ year olds we can’t improve if we stay the same. Keeping miller = more of the same. and the same has proven to be failure and has sucked for 8 years. -

are people still trying to defend the disaster of the entire JB era. Lol. Geez two top 6 picks busts!! 6 /7 draft picks on the roster after 8 years of being terrible. 1st rd picks traded for old dman with an a hit of a contract couldnt even achieve his lofty goal of mediocrity we are still filled with holes and have very few if any nhl ready prospects. look at the names you mentioned lolololololol am he was a terrible GM and had zero foresight or clue how to build a team want some proof 8 seasons of failures and excuses. people expect new managment to fix the disaster he left behind in 6 months lol. we can’t move because we are capped out and we cant add sweeteners for others to take the bad contracts because we can’t afford the damage that will do. he did a great job of screwing this team up for a long time. thanks Jim -
[Signing] Flames sign Nazem Kadri

Millers camp feels he is and if the best he can do is 50-60 mill they know he’ll get that as a ufa. The odds for him to make less next summer as a ufa is highly unlikely more likely he gets more and would be one of the top available UFA. -

I could only use one laugh emoji. cowgary puck hilarious. Basically we don’t have players nearly as good but they don’t have the players that are worse like we have so we are close.lolololololololol Colorado also doesn’t play in a saddle isn’t that where asses goes? -

looks like NYI missed out hahahahahhaha where’s the media insider guy that said a deal was all but down. None of the “ insiders” saw this coming shows the value of their reporting skills. Calgary is the same as last season just older. -

regardless I’d be more surprised to see miller resigned than traded. i be more shocked if miller took less than what he and is agent feel he’d get as a UFA next summer. He set his price high His alleged contract ask of 9 mill is enough that it’s hurt his trade value and most likely one of the reasons he hasn’t been moved and a great way of saying I’m going to be a UFA without say I’m going to be UFA . but I really want to stay with this cap crunched team jr/pa could crush all this and simply say he’s not going anywhere we’re not trading him they haven’t. They haven’t even said that’s hes a big part of the future of this team like they said about horvat and brock. What they have said they’d like to keep him and he’s a great player. - that reads pretty clear to me. goodbye JT -

I don’t think miller wants to be here and I don’t think he’s part of the JR-PA plan both sides just saying the “right” things. Jt doesn’t want to say he wants out then get a great offer or have to play out his deal in front of fans that he’s just keslered, pa/jr don’t want to say he’s not part of the future because they arent JB stupid and know it would hurt his trade value. So I highly doubt he circles around and I highly doubt pa/JR moves from what he’ll pay . If he’s going to take less he might as well wait till he’s a UFA and most likely still make more than what we’re offering. if he can duplicate last season he’ll get paid as a ufa. if he can’t nobody will be sad we aren’t paying him 7-8+mill for the next7- 8 years Besides all that we have no nhl prospects and Our cap is screwed fans just starting to see the cost of eight years of stupid. -

Yeah owners shortsighted micro managing has cost us it’ll be interesting to see if FA has stepped back and is allowing the experts to do their jobs after all JR is nobody yes man puppet the same could not be said for JB. -

Totally agree. The miller trade sign distraction (especially in van ) with our future media won’t help either. Then to do what should be done regardless of playoff implications at the TDL with our owners… good luck. The best time to move in is now. -

It has zero value if we can’t get back in the following years or don’t improve. bubble year playoffs some of those guys got experience so what did it do? losing a top player for nothing would be a giant step back. Short sighted goals are why we are in this situation after being terrible for so long. If were not a playoff team with out him this year why would be better next year after he leaves for free unless it’s to JB a older lesser UFA stupid money which is also proven to be super effective. -

combover replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
when this club is built properly and has any nhl depth they’ll get the playoff experience.forcing it and losing top assets for nothing won’t advance this club. Let’s say they get the playoff experience then lose a top player for nothing don’t have the prospects or assets to replace him and the team struggles to get back in. that experience means nothing if we aren’t a perennial playoff team and if losing miller now for a futures means we aren’t a playoff team then it means the same next year when he leaves for nothing. Unless we once again over spend on a lesser older ufa and keep the never ending cycle that Jb started running. I’d like to keep miller and if we were in a position to potentially win a cup I’d totally agree but we aren’t so I see zero value in losing top tier players for nothing. If miller resigns for 5 years great 6-8 I feel is a mistake but losing him for nothing to me isn’t even an option regardless of playoff implication this season. he coming off a career year he’s got no trade protection his cap hit is manageable and even more so at the TDL and if we retained salary his value would go higher we will get more than 1 late round first. This whole circus is starting to have that same stink as when Gillis had a deal for Louie with TO and ownership said go get more and the deal fell apart. . -

Boeser was a late first. Demko a second jarred McCann late first I’m just against losing players for free for no reason. we have no reason to lose a player for nothing right now. We aren’t a cup contender keeping Jt doesn’t change that losing him for nothing does nothing to help us now or in 2-5 years . that late first round pick might be the barging chip or asset that can be included in a deal to get the RHD we’ve needed. I curious what do you think we gain by holding onto him and watching him leave for nothing? -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
combover replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
We aren’t strong enough in any position in this franchise to not get even a late first. Tough to build anything if we don’t start developing players so we can save on the cap and be able to trade from a position of strength. Jb failed to acquire futures with pending ufas almost the entire time he was here look where it got us. An Empty farm and over paying older ufas. keeping/losing a player with a real chance to win a cup is a lot different than keeping/losing a player to get through 1 round hopefully. Guys walk to free agency every year is true but how many were traded as rentals first how many were on teams that had legit chances to win a cup or did win the cup and others teams have replacements for the guys lost in there system we don’t. we should be in a lot better position depth wise with how terrible this team has been but we aren’t we can’t lose to talent for nothing weathers it’s horvat EP boeser miller it would hurt this club -

Then what, Lose him for free after one round maybe two. seems like terrible asset management and tough to build and fill holes and get picks prospects in the system when top players are aloud to walk for free in hopes of a wildcard spot. Didn’t we just can the guy that thought that was a good plan.
