[Report] Kesler is still a Canuck
canucksnihilist replied to Derp...'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
well... really this was a good test. for the canucks, it doesn't matter if he is traded at this deadline or in the summer. they just need some young players and future the test was to see if the asking price was too high - if it wasn't, a team would have bitten before the deadline. Since no team bit on the bait, the asking price is obviously too high. ergo: He will be traded at the draft for less than was asked for at this deadline. what is the supposed asking price? a top player, prospect, and draft pick? pfft... how was that formula arrived at? Taking one of each thing you want and arbitrarily demanding it? how about 2 prospects who have unrealized potential but are starting to show it, and 2 draft picks? That would actually be better for this team in a few years... -
[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers
canucksnihilist replied to Alex the Great's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
sitting him out makes sense now. that is a bit of a relief actually -
whatever - it's obvious this team isn't close to really competing for a cup. even when they were healthy they were getting owned by the CA teams. they can't afford high paid players who are not contributing. not this year with the cap so low. last few years it made us not as competitive (and showed up last 2 playoff appearances), but his year it means we have no depth. ergo we miss playoffs. real issue: is owner/management trying to make the playoffs, or win the cup? If we make a move at the deadline - a significant one - and pay the price to help make the playoffs this year ... well you will have your answer. if you are out of the playoffs come deadline time you should sell. cause even if you might make the playoffs you won't have a chance. delusions...

the team will rebound and fight for a playoff spot... or we will be finishing 6th. either would be ok - obviously it would be more fun to make the playoffs, but I can't say this team deserves to be in the playoffs this year.

[Lebrun Speculation] Canucks Ready for Re-tool
canucksnihilist replied to Blueberries's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
so true... we are only 3 points out of 6th... but 11 points out of 5th (backwards of course). It's not enough to lose when all the other teams are losing too. we started losing too early to get into the top 5 unless we win the lottery -

depends what you mean by rebounded.... I don't think his point totals will ever soar again, no more 100 point seasons, no more point per game seasons. maybe it is 50 points... what else is new for 33 year old? how many 33 year olds in NHL history have dipped in production and then rebounded? Selanne did it, you never know. It is highly unlikely though I'll give you that. More than likely the bass will start to play and we can chill out and get into the groove. I hope the drummer is good! -

Let's see: concussion: Crosby took about 2-3 years to really get back to his former level. Unfortunately for DS he was 31 when he got the concussion - but conceivably (cause who really knows) he should be back to normal by the time he is 33-34 ... or this season or next. So just chill out about DS. The concussion took the last few top years he had away from him. But he should still be at Henrik's level sometime this next year. Which is a good 60 points over a full season perhaps? -

same old story... if Kesler, Burrows and DS can play like stars / first line players this is a good game. else it's just pain -

Gillis silent while Canucks need him most (Bold moves my ass)
canucksnihilist replied to Jamaicanice's topic in Canucks Talk
ok, time to chill out a bit. 1. Is MG the best GM out there - probably not. but not the worst. middle of the pack maybe - but it's his first go-around so what do you expect? You aren't going to get the best GM in the game by hiring a rookie. 2. Can he draft well? From early returns, yes. 3. Does he trade well? 50-50. Hope he learns and doesn't have a big head. Or if he does have a big head that he lets some actual logic in. 4. Could another GM have done better? An experienced GM, yes. 5. Did he think the window closed before the fans? ie. gave up on the team before the fans? yes. He knew the window was closed when Schneider was dealt. That was an obvious rebuild move, you'd have to be a moron to believe that move could help the team win a cup with the current core. 6. Could he have done more to extent the last window? Yes. But the more you extend, the more you will suck when it's done. With Kesler's injury pos 2011, and DS's concussion - they haven't been the same and they are basically "done" being top line players. That is the brutal truth. So did he recognize this? I think he did. Especially when he talks about mentoring after signing the Sedins. And Lu dropped out long ago when he melted down a ton of times in the playoffs. HS, DS, Kesler, Lu were the real core -> now just HS - and he is on a distinguished and honourable decline. but it's not enough. 7. Is he a good GM for building? that is the real question. I think his drafting instincts are better - he has more years in gauging young talent than he has being a GM that's for sure. And his early drafting seems ok. What he does with the draft picks later is a bit spurious, but he has the instincts. Trades? No.... He looks at potential, like an agent would look at a player when they are trying to figure out how much that player is worth - all about potential. To win a trade you have to actually be brutally honest and not lie to yourself and think that player has serious concussion or whatever and realize that isn't a great place to park 4 million of your cap space (ie. those are the trades you win by not taking them). How about signings? Yes, he signs players from all over and some of them look good - and he signs for less dollars, so he is good there. So... 2/3 ain't bad #meatloaf. so chill out, enjoy the ride! If we hang on and make the playoffs it will still be exciting! Wish we could get a top pick - or the top pick, but this city won't stand for a fire-sale, nor do I think a fire-sale is warranted. -

This almost says it all: http://canucksarmy.com/2014/1/17/are-the-sedin-twins-old-and-useless-now-well-no-but They are not going to be 100 point players at this age, and will decline from point per game to 50-60. Problem is there is nobody to step up - we have no 100 point player on this team. Nobody who could score 40 goals let alone 50. I blame the Nonis drafting - Perron would be nice right now! MG drafting has shown more promise, but those players - kass and schr are still a year/2 away from realizing potential So 1. What else do u expect? This is a lull in quality cause of drafting and trading picks for garbage. 2. Quit expecting sedins to be supermen - they are in a normal trajectory for star players. They are here to mentor the young players and transition now and next 4 years - not to lead the team in scoring. That they still do lead the team is a problem. 3. Kesler was never the offensive star, more like a toews defensive star - if we had a Kane to play with him... 4. So enjoy the game for its own sake, it is still fun to watch - but the focus should be on how the team develops and how the young players fit in over the next few years. Really not much choice is there? Focus on the next core and see if we can rebuild without sucking completely! -

That's another 4 years after this one actually... Ds: 1 point in 8 games.... Hard to believe. But the way he is playing - it's like something is missing... Like he doesn't even try. Someone told me they think he has slowed down. Hands slower. So maybe he is trying but it's just not there? -

17 back to back games this season. That's what happened. http://www.theprovince.com/touch/sports/hockey/canucks-hockey/Gallagher+Long+suffering+Canucks+fans+deserve/9437398/story.html?rel=894638 So everyone just chill out. Chill out! Gillis didn't get them to the scf... That team was put together by someone else ... This is the team he is putting together - doesn't seem to have a plan... Skilled and fast... Nah we need to get bigger. Now it is fast and big. It would help if he could win a trade at some point...

Moral victory! The moral is there is no victory
-
Wow totally pathetic last 4 min
-
I know thinking is hard for some people... We could have traded Schneider for a bona fide top-6 forward.
-
They know they can't win this year - it is finally sinking in.... And so the truth is they don't care about this season anymore. Hope not but probable. Window officially closed with the Schneider trade, btw... Positive side: we've finally got some prospects
-
They are playing like they did 8 years ago. 60 point players. But they were playing really well first month. Doesn't make sense.... Burnt out? Facing opposition that cares?
