If you have one of the best goalies on the planet only scoring 1 or 2 goals should win u a lot of games. -
Too Early to call Kassian a dissapointment?
canucksnihilist replied to Go Go Canucks Go's topic in Canucks Talk
They tried to do it in one year. I havt heard anything else about a vision of building a big tough team... So it was all bs. Seriously. -
I would replace him with someone with hockey vision. Someone who can really understand a player's potential and how to put together a team that can win. Gillis is able to see how we can sign a bunch of players, and give ourselves $ room... but I don't think he has the hockey vision to be able to really understand what a winning "team" looks like. I mean... just examine his moves the last few years (or since the beginning... 20 million for Sundin was kind of idiotic - only by luck did we escape an early demise of the core). There is a reason that hockey players become the best GMs (most of the time) - cause they understand what a "team" means. So who is available? Wayne Gretzky wasn't a great coach cause he played the game in a way you can't teach - he just understood the game better than anyone - how do you teach to move to where the puck is going to be, not where it is? But he might make an excellent GM. If not him, then someone who understands the game. Ray Ferraro is out of work next year. Not saying these 2 are the best ones, but someone of that ilk would make a far better GM than the one we have. Edit: And obviously we need someone who has been groomed for that job a bit, worked in a team's office for a while, etc etc. You can't go from nothing to a GM and succeed... imho

we didn't need to get bigger. give me one good reason why? back to back president's trophies. only injuries (freak injuries to Kesler and Hamhuis) lost us the SCF. it is precisely this need to "Get Bigger" that has sunk this latest core's chances at a SC. Right in the middle of it we abandoned what got us there - speed, and skill - for a few players who are bigger but not better. And where is that now? the current management makes no talk about getting bigger anymore - cause that flavour of the year is out, time to spin something else.... I agree with your MG assessment. -

yup. take off the rose coloured glasses peeoples: 1. hodgson move was just terrible. for a team trying to win and still IN the window 2. schneids was given away the same way: for a team trying to WIN it was absolutely ridiculous. MG still has a job just goes to show how inept the team ownership is. And I was a supporter of MG at the beginning - but rose coloured glasses off - the sooner the management team gets wiped out the sooner we can rebuild a contender, cause the current manager is not capable. -

coho > kass so far at least. then again: schn > lu a 1st round pick > ballard it's not like we are batting above 500 here, so it is easy to pick apart. right now they are fighting for jobs next year, imho... -

Needs: goaltender, and a few top-6 forwards... This is worse than last year peoples Predict another loss. The way this team finishes and the goaltending they are getting.... There is a reason they lose more games than they win recently.... Maybe we can get one of the best goaltenders in the league for our first round pick next year... Window was shut last year when we traded Schneider for part of the next core... This is just the expected aftermath of that stupid move. I mean aren't u supposed to extend your window if u can? Not shut it by trading your #1 goalie? No significant winning until Lu is gone - 7 million this year? Total joke -

toast. at this rate it will be 7-0 for NY... maybe 8-0. I hope it is, that would wake the canucks up and realize changes need to be made. this was the game that defined the season for me. new coach in his old town - do the players play for him or not? they started out well, but couldn't score when they had chances. but when was the last time a goaltender stole a game for us? Or even played better than the opposing goaltender (not this year...) -

its the goaltender. the players have no confidence because they know the goalie will let in soft goals. no way Lu is going to the Olympics... -

recap: edler gaf leads to 1st goal. kassian chops one over the glass for a penalty leading to the 2nd. Lu not at fault, but not having any magic -

edler won't respond well to torts.... you have to have some shred of confidence in your game to be able to respond? -

JUST WIN!!!! the nucks need this one.... potentially only 1 point out of a playoff position... or up to 5 (minny wins/loses their next game) if they can come back to town in contention, we can get on a roll.... If we come back well out of it, season is basically done. WIN today and sunday, and we are right in the mix - which is all we can hope for at this point. I think the extended road trip at the beginning of the season and the success on that road trip hurt this team - they were complacent when they returned - thought they had already proved something - and got smoked out on the home stand (with a few small away game trips).... edit: yup: success hurts. totally doesn't make sense -
well... you can't try to get rid of someone for 2 years, then try to keep them. Lu will never be the same playing here, he needs out in the worst way. He is just not the same goaltender... Total cluster by the GM... if all we were going to get was a draft pick why didn't we keep CS? It's like telling your boss you are leaving, then staying after he gives you a raise to keep you ... the trust is gone it just doesn't work
-
holy frack is there a culture of failure on that team right now or what? they have no confidence and cough the puck up twice right near the end when the pressure mounts a bit. reminds me of the zebras, pre-bure. you always expected them to lose...

The lack of secondary scoring is so glaring...
canucksnihilist replied to Lui's Knob's topic in Canucks Talk
Kesler: He is capable of scoring 30+ goals when everything goes well... and guess what, when he has consistent wingers who can help make plays he has this potential. that means, fyi: he plays on the power play and has DS and HS to help set him up / get pucks to the net. By himself on the 2nd line, he is a 15-20 goal scorer. If we could get a real top-6 player to play with him (Schroeder might be it?) then he could be 20+, 30+ if he is playing with a superstar. Only option for 2nd line scoring right now is to put DS on the second line. Gets Kesler to the 30+ goal level, doesn't hurt the 1st line. I'm not saying permanently, but mix it up for frack sakes... DS and HS are too predictable against top defenders right now. And they can produce just as well apart. powerplay leave them together, etc etc. -

lets get a healthy / full lineup and see: burrows and schroeder back will push 2 other players out of the lineup, and should be an upgrade. let's see... Santorelli is great it seems, but not a 1st line player. That he is up there just shows you the lack of depth. There "is" nobody else. chill... see how it happens after 10-20 games at least. -
I think tonight's game will be critical for him. I don't understand why he was in the press box first 2 preseason games... Has he fallen that low so fast? Didn't he just get a one way contract?

I know where you are coming from - better to fail and go through a cycle (cause we had a high with the 2 president's trophies and the trip to the SCF... and those players, the core, are not performing at quite the same peak) - and a cycle where we get better draft picks and rebuild again completely. It does have some appeal. However isn't it better to keep your best players - the Sedins - who can still be top-20 players in this league for their next contract? They might do the Selanne thing too and be top-10 players some of the time. Just because the cap is going up, you can get them for their 6 million or so, and still have tons of space to grow the team. By the end of their coming contract, everyone hopes they will be the 2nd line. Here is a question: Should the Wings have traded Yzerman in his last few years (when they won a cup with the ageing superstar?) Sure, he wasn't the Yzerman of his youth those last few years, but was a reliable point producer and smart smart smart player. I see a lot of parallels with the Sedins. A lot of people have clouded judgement of them, maybe because they were soft and took time to develop. They had a slump last year too... and they will have more slumps. But so what? They will also be brilliant, and are great playoff perforers (point per game in the playoffs, and remember HS against LA? You can't say you don't want that player on your team!). We'd be crazy to let them go, imho. Oh and another thing: Even if we don't sign them, we will still be middle of the pack and NEVER get that top-5 draft pick. If we ever get a top-5 pick (by poor performance), the sellout streak would end, and the GM would get fired, along with everyone involved in the organization (probably). So think again before supporting the eject buttons all you would do would be to make it even more obvious that we don't have enough top-6 forwards on the team (for crying out loud, they are 2 of the only 4 legitimate top-4 forwards we have!... hope that can change this year...) pffft.. for all we know, the team would be sold and moved to Seattle if we really sucked for a few years - DONT WISH FOR THAT!!!
