  1. Ya I didn’t think of it that way. i agree it’s good if you want to cut your losses cause you make a mistake - but from an ownership perspective it sucks. wonder if the idea was to get rid of him later anyways - kind of smart.
  2. Correction : ownership has mandated that JB part with assets. Ownership needs to be replaced. why do you think a person with such a good drafting record and been involved in the draft for so long has made all these moves? Debate his record all you want but he obviously has had a lot more success at the draft than any other Canuck GM Ownership. Win now. Developing land around GM place. Need to hold interest. Relevancy in the market. Winning a cup is not the primary goal of this ownership group - it is obvious. A gut like TO did would have been in that direction. That said - winning a cup is obviously one of the goals of ownership (raise franchise value, profile, etc) but it isn't the primary goal. You don’t need to win a cup to have a financially successful franchise.
  3. Are we limiting him to 9 games? That is the smartest move - one one that we really need to be doing. 9 home games left? Or will he be out a few more games with the foot injury anyways? the message that sends to him is that we take every step we can to win - including managing contracts. Or do you think it sends a negative message to him?
  4. Edler and Tanev are second pairing... and in a few years 3rd pairing to wind down their careers. They are quality but can’t play that number of minutes without losing it. Ideally QH and OJ become a top pairing at some point in the next year. FA: reality is you are going to get 3/4 years of quality then 1/2 years of buyout candidates. Typically. On a 5 year contract. So... are we in a position we win now? Should we grab that top D if we can and risk the timing? And longevity? High end talent lasts a little longer than mid level - so would rather risk it on a high end talent
  5. Wow that is a terrible contract. Who in hell negotiated that for the Canucks? Haha
  6. I’d rather spend on elite players than bottom 6 players again. i think we may have to jettison or buy out our 4th line at some point haha
  7. JH: hockey IQ. Thats Why EP is so great - and its more than enough. If you have the hockey IQ you can work on everything else as you mature.... but you cant work on hockey IQ, you just have it
  8. Supposedly the top 15 are considered top players (with the top 3 being on an upper level) and then it falls away after that. would be an amazing story to see the hughes brothers on the same team. 7.5% chance? Not bad... not likely to win but the problem with the lottery is that nobody had a likelihood of getting in the top 3 - even the top 3 teams!
  9. Ya lets move on. JB seems to be focused on keeping picks - so Im happy with that.
  10. Sorry for the negativity. I just cant help wonder what the team would have been like if we had even just kept our picks and didn't give up on young players as quick (trades for older players) If the management has really stopped trading away picks and doesnt sign mid level FAs then im still on board. But we did waste some years so we arent ready to really compete yet...
  11. There isnt much choice. Maybe with good drafting it can be leasened. But not with trading away picks.
  12. The jets had way more picks. Way more young players in the system. Not even close when comparing the level of young talent. The jets didnt fill their roster with bottom 6 FAs... they let their young players pkay. We arent on a path to winning. Until we change course and stockpile picks. And stop signing mid level FAs.
  13. If we keep trading away picks we will never get there. Lets see how it goes this next year. the team would be better off with all their picks they traded away instead of all the players acquired for those picks - by a mile. Which has extended the rebuild by a mile... Problem is the team keeps wanting to get young players instead of picks. Which means they get players other teams are willing to give up on... consistently. When has JB ever tried to accumulate picks? Why try to be competitive now at the same instead? Cant have it both ways - you end up not having it either way. aged FAs and players other teams didnt want. Some will be worth it. But mostly it wont be enough to compete against good teams. Let alone won a cup right now the team should be full of picks we have drafted. But we gave that up so we could win now and be competitive - and still finish at the bottom part of the standings. And be terribly unentertaining. How can anyone see the recent history and think there was a long term plan there?
  14. First: Beagle and Rousell are without doubt quality players who are extremely useful to a team trying to win. I get fooled by stats sometimes but watching them play says everything you need to know. but where would we be without them this year? Well we are looking at a top 5 lottery pick, so probably looking at a top 3 without them. my problem with all these support FAs is that they are useful to help a playoff team win a cup. To make a good team even better. By the time this core group is ready these players will have retired or have been bought out cause the contracts at the end suck for players that age (typically... we will see). the idea is for support players like this is to help this team make the playoffs. It didnt work. An idea like that will never work. You need to focus on young players - not give up draft picks at the start of a rebuild. you have to accept the pain and push through it to win. In life, business, and sports. The quick fixes like these older FAs just make things worse. Look at the standings over the last few years. It has done nothing but force us to never get a top 3 pick. the reason is jobs. JB and trevor would have never gotten hired if they went in touting a full rebuild. And they needed to be competitive so the owner wouldnt fire them. Then when it didnt work the short term answer was another quick fix. A new one every summer.
  15. 1 year kamikaze request effectively granted. young players aren't ready yet for a long season. The attempt to bring in bottom 6 players to shield the top 6 failed (predictably) new coach? GM in jeopardy? how long before that is a reality? First thing to go is the coach - fair or not... then the GM.
  16. To get to the SCF after having basically no good young pkayers on the team QUICKLY, youneedtoget super lucky. No mistakes. Else its a long haul - as it normally is.... Drafting: we just havent gotten lucky enough to be ready yet. Still have missed on a few JB first round picks. Not saying JB is at fault - just that things didnt turn out perfectly. And we certainly didnt embrace a rebuild until - what was it? A few years into it? trades: so far weve given away picks and players we just drafted for basically nothing in the end. Would you like MCaan and forsling back? At least we got rid of gud... he needed a reset, he just wasnt a good fit. But we are far from mistake free with trades. FA signings. No impact player has been signed. Lots of support. We needed an impact player. And the rebuild on the fly was a complete fiasco. that said the team is on the right track. Drafting we are ok. But we need a fantastic trade or 2 and / or an impact FA signing or 2 to really get there. The timeline is to compete for playoffs for the next few years and really compete for the cup in 3-5 years IF we get enough impact players.
  17. McEwan looks ready for a shot. He could be a top 6... rather give him a shot than get a FA winger. Who to sit on the current roster? Schaller is a dud... but are we stuck with him?
  18. Make that 3 of us - you just for chiming in on meaningless banter. i call the couch. You 2 can share the queen bed. Haha!
  19. was paying attention until you got all emotional like a high school kid
  20. juolevi isnt looking like a pick that will play in the nhl. hope im wrong but ... injured before his first nhl game just isnt a good sign. and he is not processing the game at an elite level. again - hope im proved wrong. if he was picked 12th we wouldnt be complaining. it was a reach to pick him when we got him. win some and lose some. we won EP and we cant complain when we waste a pick. but Tkachuk would sure look good with bo wouldnt he?
  21. It’s all a learning experience. Not bad for him to learn those lessons before he comes back to NA
  22. Politics: Clinton was no saint but Trump is a thousand times worse when it comes to breaking the law for personal profit. Trump is just better at it. And worse at getting away with it. Anyways I don’t think a hockey player would be much on the radar of the oligarchs unless they wanted to help launder money. Which is extremely unlikely. We would have to see him buy properties and sell them for huge profits to oligarchs for instance (like trump) family: holy crap we don’t really know jack about it but have crazy opinions. Kind of like the Clinton and Trump opinions. Just leave the guys family out of it. Have some class! hockey: still hoping he considers playing here when his contract is up. This team has the chance to be special and he could be an integral part of it. A few things have to happen for that to come about, and he is one of those things imho.
  23. No - the Hughes brothers on the team would be truly phenomenal. 3 first line Centers. The 4the line would never get on the ice.
