don't judge before we see him in another set of games. 10-20? If he hasn't shown anything at that point he never will. reminds me of grabner - never showed anything, might not make it - so trade him. reality is that you need to give these players a shot before burying them. last year wasn't a legitimate shot with the injuries

Schroeder might still work. Let's see this coming year - make or break for him. What did he have? 1 good season in the minors? We do rush players don't we? I agree the nucks don't dev players well.... At lease so far

btw: the time to move up to draft #1 is next year... although switching from #6 to #1 doesn't cost as much as it probably will next year. that is assuming that this team is making the playoffs... which might be a stretch considering what we saw this last year... Maybe the right coach, and banner years from all the players (meaning a return to just "normal" a few years ago)... a stretch, but maybe. We saw a lot of age this year....

I'm starting to think that moving up might mean Ekblad

Size: It's not that the canucks should draft for size. It's that they should NOT draft an undersized player That is the real issue with size.

trotz for the future! he would be great to dev the young players. he is untested with a team that can potentially win the cup - but... are we really there? I'd say no. 5 years away anyways. I've had a change of mind - he would be good - and he could make the playoffs consistently, and learn to win with the rest of the team. best alternative out there - unless you like Bylsma?

[Confirmed] Jim Benning signs as new Canucks GM

well... Trotz has not moulded players to his style - or has he? Are his defensive teams really a result of the personnel? I think that the coach's philosophy plays a huge roll in how the team plays. Look at Crawford, the run-and-gun coach. He did it in Colorado and they certainly had the players to do it. And he did it here in Van and he didn't really have all the players necessary to do it - but it worked out both times. Because the players wanted to play like that. No player wants to play defensive and tentative. One absolute in Hockey (although I don't believe in absolutes, so it isn't really an absolute - ok?): Here it is: If you can score goals (your team), you have confidence. And that is a self fulliling prophecy. a feedback loop. Score a bunch of goals in a set of games, and you will probably score in the next bunch (in fact it is likely). And the inverse is equally true: don't score for a bunch of games, you probably won't score in the next bunch of games either. So bring me a coach who can teach offense. Teaching defense is easy - or at least it is a known entity. Get us someone who can teach offense and strategy, not just shut-down hockey. Trotz is not that coach, imho. Who? I would love to have Gretzky, but I didn't really follow what he did in Phoenix so I don't know if that would really work. Oats maybe? Someone who can see the ice better than half of his players - on the offensive side. -
boomer is in jail for undisclosed reasons... what does that mean? you are worshiping a pedophile? wtf?

I believe that the most important thing in a new GM is NOT that he is a genius and can out-smart other GMs - pick the best player consistently, and do other things better than anyone else. Not going to happen anyways. What is important is that this GM is inclusive, and can get feedback from other hockey people. Because more minds = a better decision, almost every time. Proven in psychology experiments (don't ask for source, just google) and proven this last MG stretch... MG was working on an island and it showed. Hopefully Linden already has some contacts and people who can actually give him good advice / counsel ... and Benning seems to have those connections as well. That is HUGE and bodes well if it comes to pass. Just don't go off the board again - it's great if your off the board guy makes all the connections and isn't a prick... but... -
46 pages on a potential draft pick? really? why this pick and not another?

hextal is to the flyers like linden is to the canucks. it's a good fit... or at least seems to ! -
we have a great chance to get a fresh start with some great young players - just have to trade the core away. major question should be: who is going to still be in their prime in 5 years? If not, trade them. period. then we win a cup! or have a great chance of doing so...
-
boring defensive hockey - wins championships. aka new jersey. but so did the blackhawks with an exciting style.. I like the blackhawk model - so tank for a few years here, get mckinnon, and then cup edit: of course we'd have to make real changes and trade the old core... else we wouldn't tank. and the new gm / coach need to make the playoffs... so won't happen. as always, short term gain, long term loss...

If the GM doesn't sign his own coach, we have real problems. Nothing against Torts, his style may not be for everybody, but he did - for part of the season - have remarkable success with an aging core. Really - if the GM doesn't have a vision (and ahem.. has to go through a lengthy interview process to find out about the coach in place, cause... maybe he hadn't been paying attention?) and know what all the coaches in the league are capable of already - then he is the wrong GM. So ya, there is a chance - if Feaster is hired by the sound of it - that Torts stays. Else not a chance.

All I can say is this: We are so much better off having Linden look for a GM than the Aquilinis. Nothing against the Aquilinis, but they don't know hockey as well as people who have spent a lifetime in the business. And we need more people who know hockey, who have actually drafted well - imagine if coho and schroeder were great players, playing on the 1st line this last year? Gillis - for all his talk and desire to do well in this area - just couldn't draft. When he got hired I was hoping that this would be the spark to gut the scouting team - cause it really lies on them. but no... cause he couldn't see anything wrong with what they had been doing. Hopefully Linden can... or his GM -
doug mclean? ray ferraro? don't know if he is really able to do that job right now though.... maybe assistant gm for awhile

[GDT] March12: Vancouver @ Winnipeg

The coach thinks that u cant teach offense. The reality is that he can't teach it -
The team has given up on this season. We may not win another game this season... Lu gone = signal to the team core that it is over. Kesler wants out = signal to core that it is over Chain reaction and the way they are playing.... No chance. This year and next are going to be painful - hope we at least get young. Maybe we will get mkinnon
