The commissioner won't let any Canadian teams relocate, I have zero worries about that. I have legit worries I'll die without seeing the Canucks raise the cup and I'm 100% blaming ownership. -

Agreed. Until there's new ownership it seems the ultimate goal of this franchise is to squeak into the playoffs. -

It's not hindsight. The moment Benning signed Miller & Vrbata, the writing was on the wall. Analysts and some of us on CDC been saying it since the start. -
Those who did not want a GM change.

So you relaunched your account just to show CDC that you know nothing about this team, hockey or sports in general? Neat. -
There was no rebuild! Under Benning the Canucks traded more picks out than they brought in. They've avoided a rebuild for the last 10 years which is why this team has been one of the worst teams in all of sports over the last decade.

Huh. It's almost as if the team should have rebuilt when Gillis got fired and there were a ton of assets to trade for draft picks. Now we've wasted years. Done nothing but lose. Got into cap hell. Tied up old players to long trash contracts and have absolutely nobody in the prospect pool. That retool on the fly was a great idea there Aquaman & Benning. Idiots. Burn it all down. Start from scratch. Until this team loads up on draft picks and actually rebuilds properly I'm not spending another dime on a ticket or merchandise. -
I predicted he'd get the team to the middle (worst spot, no high picks, no cup contention) when he got hired and signed Miller & Vrbata instead of blowing it up. I didn't know just how bad he'd be. It's a hell of a hard job to turn a mediocre team into a good one, but it's so nice to see a big team of intelligent people get assembled to do the task.

Will Miller even be good when this team is good enough to compete for a cup? I think he's more likely to be a bad contract by then.

https://theathletic.com/3516625/2022/08/18/nhl-front-office-confidence-rankings?source=user-shared-article It was a long time coming. A very long time. In the previous six years, the Canucks never ranked higher than 25th in the league and were frequently much lower — generally regarded as one of the league’s absolute worst front offices. The Canucks made terrible decision after terrible decision before ownership finally saw the light. Jim Benning can’t hurt you anymore, Canucks fans. The decision to let Benning go was way overdue and while the results haven’t manifested yet — partly due to the mess Benning left — confidence in Vancouver is already well on the rise. A staggering 92 percent of respondents have more confidence now than they did a year ago, giving the team higher marks across the board. The big key is a 4.0 for “vision,” something this franchise has sorely lacked for years under Benning. The team felt aimless at best and self-destructive at worst. Now, things are a bit clearer. Still, there was some bemoaning that the new regime hasn’t quite hit a home run yet, fixing things around the edges more than anything. It takes a while to turn macaroni art into a masterpiece and it’ll be interesting to see what the Canucks picture looks like in a year’s time. But even the C average from the public is a huge step in the right direction.

Big time disappointment this off-season so far?
CanadianRugby replied to Canuckfanforlife82's topic in Canucks Talk
It is a disappointing offseason, but the market for forwards sucks right now and the there's no cap flexibility. So what can they do. The task is daunting as rebuilding the D core is one of the tougher things to do in hockey, and there the prospect pool is mediocre . The team is in the worst spot possible, not good enough to compete and not bad enough to get good picks. Thank you Jim. Yet this new group seems to have a long term plan and I'm going to be patient for them to ice the team they want. Im optimistic, as this leadership group is smart and has hired a lot of talented people around them. Anyways, it can't be any worse than the last 8 years. -
What was your favourite moment of the season
CanadianRugby replied to spook007's topic in Canucks Talk
Benning being fired, the people that replaced him sounding like professionals with a plan they can stick to. That hit on dirty Keith. Seeing the team show character by fighting to the end. Sitting right next to the Larscheiders their first game there. -
A lot of talk about a core piece not being here next year.
CanadianRugby replied to Johnny Torts's topic in Canucks Talk
Yeah I'd say that's the core except I wouldn't include OEL. He's just getting paid like he's part of the core. Miller or Boeser seem to make the most sense to move. Boeser because he is the least important part of the core, but will still cost a lot of money. Miller because he could bring in a huge return in prospects/picks, and his peak value is right now. A time that this team isn't ready to win the cup. But you're right the support group will probably see even more change. -

CanadianRugby replied to Johnny Torts's topic in Canucks Talk
Changes made to the core will be to increase team speed and change locker room chemistry as much as they will be for cap flexibility. The chemistry to me looks fine, but we don't know what's happening in the locker room. Reading between the lines, to me it appears there's a feeing in management that some of the players don't hate losing enough. -
[Report] Canucks hire Derek Clancey as assistant GM
CanadianRugby replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
As much as I hated how Benning operated, is how much I'm liking Rutherford. -
I don't need Thomas Drance. I have eyes and have seen the garbage on the ice and in the front office year in and year out. Just because you're a crap team doesn't mean it's "growing pains". It's been crap for 8 years and crap was the status quo this year too. There was no growing... Just pain. If you think Benning is so good go cheer for whatever team he's GM of next, except that might be tough because he's never getting a head GMing job again.
