In the past I would have said no way he'd take a demotion. But it seems recently people are more likely to retire or take a lesser role, to spend time with their families. I imagine the outrageous salaries people make in today's sports enable that to happen. To me this is inexcusable. The Canucks have a good prospect pool. Imagine what it would look like if Benning had added picks. Though at this point I think you do have to go for the playoffs next season. How many bottom feeder years do you need before you're the new Oilers. If you're not near the bottom then you have to aim for the playoffs. What the OP wants to do should have been done at the start, it's too late now. Now you hopefully get some significant growth from within, win a big trade, make some smart signings, do well in the draft. No pressure eh? I don't think Benning will do these things well. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Is Markstrom now the Elite Goalie he was always projected to be?
CanadianRugby replied to *Buzzsaw*'s topic in Canucks Talk
A lot of his important analytics stats are top 6 in the NHL. This is on a team that bleeds high quality scoring chances, I'd say he's having an elite season. I'd also say you need multiple seasons like this to be considered elite. -
It would be sweet to get another top end pick or do well in the lottery (if team doesn't make playoffs) instead of relying on luck on a late pick. Though that at this point is secondary. We've picked high for a few years now. To me, it's already too late but the team should be stockpiling some picks. Have Pettersson and some good support. Need more. I think the goal of a rebuild is to be a Stanley Cup contender, not a playoff contender.

To me, it sure did look like a kicking motion. Do I sense a conspiracy? No, more like inconsistency. Not sure why you argue this as part of a 2 rulebook thread.

Red Dead Redemption 2(Ps4/Xbox1) - October 26, 2018(Updated)
CanadianRugby replied to Tre Mac's topic in Off-Topic General
Same, I still buy a lot of games but am not into very many of them. (NHL 19 is way better than 18, IMO) Got the X. Is this game a 10/10 like IGN gave it? -
In every sport, every fanbase can find instances where they have a legit reason to say "the refs/rules are against them." Of course we'll get angry, that's human nature. Though I don't think there's any conspiracy or refs/rules against the Canucks (2011 was a different story). What I DO have a beef with, is how the NHL deals with blown calls or mistakes in general. They may or may not deal with the issue, but they will always treat fans like we're idiots and they pretend like everything is fine.

I remember that. The gameplay didn't change either but at least it was still fun.

If laziness isn't a bad attitude then there is no bad attitude.

Was responding to a guy that said the exact same thing and said take it for what it's worth. I think the Sedin/Coach/GM comments settle it. Did he respond though? He's slightly improved (not on the stat sheet but away from the puck he did). He's been on the verge of blossoming into a key power forward in the NHL since he got drafted. Let's see if he can turn into a decent 3rd liner before we call him a key power forward. Tell me how I said Tryamkin did something that Virtanen did?
-
LOL I KNEW you'd quote the 2% that doesn't make him look bad as if that proves something. Coach called him out GM called him out Sedins called him out Gurn says no problems

In the interview done in Russia after he left he said it was due to ice time. I also have met a number of people, well one person, that's worked with him and said he has a bad attitude and is an all around jerk. Take that for what it's worth. Daniel Sedin & the coach calling him lazy: He was among a group of players Daniel Sedin recently, and uncharacteristically, called out publicly for, essentially, not trying often enough. He had his minutes choked by his head coach for “mistakes,” which may have been on the ice, off of it or both. https://nationalpost.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks-giving-suspended-jake-virtanen-some-tough-love Benning questioning his habits: “The problem with Jake is he’s never had any adversity in his career,” “He’s always been able to sail along on his talent. This is a wake-up call. He’s learning how to be a pro and that’s in the weight room, his nutrition and his workouts. With him it’s about his habits, his day-to-day habits. He’s taking ownership of that.” If the coach, GM and the Sedins of all people are calling you out, there's probably something there. He's young and can change, maybe he already has. Though the only reason people are denying there are issues with Virtanen is because he's a Canuck. With his size/speed/shot/physicality he should be doing better than he has.

I just hope the AI is more balanced than NHL 18. That was the first NHL game of that series that I've hated.

Hopefully he makes the team this year.

By all accounts Virtanen has a terrible attitude. As long as he gets results (IMO Tryamkin was getting better results than Virtanen) I don't care if he's a nice guy or not. It was in his contract that he could leave, so he did. I think he'll be back and dominate.
