  1. Well it's obvious when your best skill is drafting, and your team is "rebuilding"... You trade all your draft picks away. Sound strategy.
  2. Because they just drafted a dude in the 1st round that got convicted of sexual misconduct. They also apparently tried to get Slava Voynov after he beat his wife.
  3. Well, now we can stop hearing on CDC about how he's a better pick than Nylander and Ehlers because... "Just wait until the playoffs, he'll be a beast."
  4. After an 8 year rebuild, most teams are trading 1st round picks to try and win the cup. Benning is doing it to try and scrape into the playoffs and save his job.
  5. A 3rd line C that can win faceoffs and play defense without being an offensive black hole.
  6. This is why I lost faith in Benning with his first moves. Signing big free agents right off the bat instead of turning players left from the glory days into draft picks. Then spending more draft picks for years to come on guys like Vey and Gudbranson. Canucks had the assets. They just let them age out their value and traded picks for playoff runs that ended in bottom of the league finishes instead.
  7. The assets and money that he gave up for Gudbranson, picking OJ, getting no assets for Hamhuis, letting Stecher walk and trading all those 2nd round picks for the age gap experiment instead of acquiring draft picks while "rebuilding" is why this D group is what it is. I don't think his hands were tied for any of these moves so I'll go with the other option you posted.
  8. I like all the changes other than maybe getting rid of our PP coach.
  9. Hey, had to keep Virtanen lol Remember all the talk on here how he was gonna develop into a better player than Ehlers and Nylander? Lol Good times.
  10. So according to the OP. 1. Can't blame Benning for anything bad. 2. Have to give credit to Benning for anything good. Sick thread.
  11. Not much said in this presser. "Want to get faster, have more depth, make the playoffs." This is just what almost every GM says every offseason. "Going to be aggressive." Going to trade draft picks away.
  12. Finally some good news. IMO.. The way players talked about him after the season, no way you don't resign him. I think they wanted to let him walk, but players were already pissed from last offseason.
  13. I'm not a newer fan, I've been die hard since the 92-93 season. So I'm used to having terrible teams in Vancouver. What I'm not used to is having zero faith in ownership/management. After 7 years I've had enough. I'm just venting, wouldn't straight up switch teams. But I just might have a 2nd team while the clownshow in Vancouver continues.
  14. I agree with some of that and disagree with some. You and me have argued most of these things for years so I'm not going to get into it point by point. I at least appreciate the effort at an actual debate and not throwing crap at each other. I understand why you see things a certain way even if I don't see them the same way all the time. I used to like debating with you.. How much did we argue if you need high picks to rebuild, does losing ruin prospects, would Vancouver fans embrace a long rebuild? But I think I'm just so done with Aqualini and Benning that I just don't care at this point. Usually I'd be mad that we're getting loser points and lowering our pick, but this year I just don't care. I think I'm an Ian Clark dismissal away from getting a Kraken jersey. I still watch the games but my days of being a Canucks keyboard warrior are mostly over. 7 years of hating the owner and GM has withered my enjoyment of watching hockey away. That said. The original thing I predicted all the way back when Benning signed Miller & Vrbata instead of doing an immediate and "proper" rebuild, is that this team would end up middle of the pack. IMO, that's happened. Bottom 6 will be tougher to improve with more money going to our top players, same goes for defense. So good luck to Benning or whoever replaces him in the future. But like I've always said. I hope you're right and I'm wrong, because I want to see this team win a cup before I die. I guess we'll see in year 9 of this Benning experiment.
