  1. Just to confirm, MG did say on TEAM1040 recently that Schroeder is coming up for the playoffs.
  2. MG has confirmed Schroeder is being called up for the playoffs on recent 1040 interview
  3. Great season from one of our top prospects. This is a kid who separated his shoulder and was out for over 3 weeks during the season, and still went on to improve his goal total from 28 to 33, and lead his team to 1st place in the East, and to the East finals. Had an even better playoffs. I think you let him rest until next year and don't rush him into a playoff spot. If anything, Ebbett should be coming out of the lineup for Pinizzotto on the wing.
  4. Fair enough on the Grabner comparison. Although Rodin has been hampered by injuries and is a speedy and skilled winger. The rest of my argument stands though. Low risk/high reward giving Rodin another shot in our fully controlled minor system.
  5. I don't think the criticism for drafting Rodin is warranted. First of all, the draft is one giant game of poker. You bluff other teams, you go all-in on certain players, and you trust your own judgement in who you decide to bet on. At the end of the day, you're still waiting for that river card to show up. For most teams, it doesn't, and for a lucky few, it does. We have one of the best Swedish scouts in the business in Thomas Gradin, and if he saw something special in Anton Rodin that could translate to the NHL, who can blame the Canucks in drafting the kid? If we didn't, another team was going to in short order. He's had injuries hamper his play on the ice and training off the ice, which was crucial to his development in strengthening and adjusting to the North American game. Our minor league program has also been in shambles since he arrived to the Wolves, and he hasn't been put in the best opportunity to develop, succeed, and build confidence on the ice. Now that we have full autonomy over our minor league team, why wouldn't we re-sign Rodin and put him a position to succeed on the ice? Get him on the powerplay and playing with skilled players. It's not going to be expensive to bring him back, and to give up on a 22 year old skilled winger this early in his career when our organization is lacking prospect depth, does not make a whole lot of sense. Remember what happened when we gave up on Michael Grabner at 22 years old?
  6. Exactly. What I love about Gaunce is his willingness to take the puck to the net and into the dirty areas. He gets a lot of his goals and points this way, which translates to the NHL a lot better than junior highlight reel goals. We definitely have a lot of perimeter players on our team right now, so Gaunce's "Bull Rush" will be a welcome addition when he is ready to make the jump.
  7. This is the East final. Winner faces London in OHL final.
  8. And just like people pointed it out for those other goalies at the time, I'm pointing it out now for Subban. He's an elite goalie at his level, a big reason the Bulls do well, and if he's letting in stinkers, and 4-5 a game, they aren't getting very far. Good sign that he played well tonight. Hopefully he can play well in Barrie for the first time in the series.
  9. Malcolm Subban finally showed up. He's supposedly the best goalie in junior hockey, but he's let in some absolute stinkers in this series.
  10. Off the ice, Gaunce is proving to be a leader as well. Great to see efforts like this, and we all know this is part of being a Canuck when you make it to the big team. Brendan Gaunce donates $1,500 to Quinte Children's Foundation http://www.bellevill...en-s-foundation Here are a couple excerpts, full story at link above:
  11. Here is Gaunce's pass from tonight
  12. That is the most likely outcome; however, Gaunce does differ from our recent centre prospects in that he has NHL-ready size and fits the profile of a 3rd line centre better than the skilled Hodgson or Schroeder. At 6'2, 215lbs, he's already bigger than every forward on our roster except for Sestito and Kassian. He's got a good shot to battle for that 3rd spot next year. Only Hank and Kesler signed so far.
  13. They're the two strongest teams from the East, and a very close match-up, but I give the edge to the Bulls based on better goaltending and home ice advantage. Going to be a great series.
  14. 2G, 3A, team worst -8 in 13 games. Not having a great year. Hopefully he turns it around soon.
  15. Nice to see Anton show off some of his skill. A goal like that can go a long way in building confidence over here for a young european.
  16. I thought Jordan showed the most of any player last night. He was the fastest player on the ice and you can just tell with higher skilled players around him he would light it up like he did for USA at WJC.
  17. Had some good shifts and managed to get on the board a couple times. Only a rookie tourny but he seemed most competitive out of our guys.
  18. Rodin did not do much last night. He showed a couple minor flashes of skill around the net, but it's the first game of a rookie tournament. Not a big deal.
  19. Look no further than Michael Grabner as to why you cannot write off a guy like Schroeder when he is only 20. It takes time to break into the best league in the world, and the ones that do quickly are either top 3 draft picks or players going to bad teams. Grabner was drafted higher than Schroeder (14th overall), 5 years ago in 2006. He went back to finish his major junior year and then played three straight years in the American league, never putting up more than 50 points. We give him a look in 09-10, he scores 5 goals and 11 points in 20 games, but generates a ton of chances, often failing to bury. We trade him away, he enters this past season as a 23 year old, 5 years after being drafted, and scores 34 goals and 52 points in the big show (much more than he ever did in AHL). Schroeder is still 20 if I'm not mistaken. He has at least a couple years in the AHL to work on his game before he should be ready to contribute as a top 6 forward in NHL. However he has been known to get to the next level younger than usual, so it isn't out of the question for him to breakout soon and make it earlier than expected.
  20. What I take from this news is this - "Rodin has seen several specialists and it's believed the tendinitis will go away, although there is no timetable" He is such a talent and still so young that he will hopefully, as the experts say, get past this issue and continue on to be a star in the NHL. Anton can be a top line NHL player with his talent. I believe the Canucks knew about this issue when they drafted him, and they still almost took him in the first round. This could be a reason he slid a little bit to mid-round 2, teams knowing of this issue. Really hope he can play in AHL this year.
  21. Jordan is 20-years-old. He was picked 22nd in 1st round. Give him some time, he wasn't supposed to walk right into line-up. I think he has a great future, people just need to be patient.
