  1. Jan, I think you may be wrong about the Boeser qualifying offer. His actual salary in the final year of his contract is more than 120% of his AAV so, as I understand it, his AAV would be the starting point for his qualifying offer. This would make his qualifying offer about 2 million less than your calculation. They follow a formula and are based on the salary (not cap hit) of the current year of the RFA's contract as it expires. Under the new rules, if that final year's salary is so large that it is more than 120% of the AAV, the AAV is used instead of the salary to determine the qualifying offer.Jul 11, 2020
  2. You may be right but I think they are wrong even there. Here are just a few players I checked out. Brad Marchand high of 23:19 Patrice Bergeron high of 21:44 Auston Matthews high of 24:29 Mitch Marner high of 25:27 Bo Horvat high of 26:11 MacKinnon, Landeskog and Rantanen all have games over 23 minutes
  3. I saw that stat that SN posted too and it is bunk. Connor McDavid alone has 16 games over 21 minutes and Draisaitl averages 22:59 per game. https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/d/draisle01.html https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/m/mcdavco01.html
  4. Lowry and Myers both have framed jerseys in the Trico rink in Calgary as they both played there with the Bow Valley Flames team. Some big kids have come through there.
  5. The Leafs. probably richest team, have a Director of Pro Scouting and 4 pro scouts as well so I would think we have pretty much the norm or more. I have no idea of the mandate Benning gave to his Pro Scouting team so I have no way to evaluate their performance. I trust the new regime will make changes as they see appropriate......and that may be major changes or none at all. Time will tell.
  6. The Director of Pro Scouting is Brett Henning The Pro Scouts are: Brian Chapman Lou Crawford Neil Komadoski Lars Lindgren Lindgren is the only ex-Canuck in that group.
  7. I really don't have an opinion on the competency of our pro scouting group but I believe you really are discounting the influence of the GM and coach with these decisions. I suspect you may be referring to recent UFA's such as Player Name, Beagle, Rousell and the like and I really doubt the scouts had much to do with these signings. They certainly didn't have anything to do with the money and term they received. We would need to be privy to inside discussions with the GM, coach and scouting director to make a good assessment of that team IMO.
  8. We will have to have another thread created to answer that one Blunt!
  9. I knew you were going to ask that....LOL. So, here is the info and example directly from the CBA. Short answer is that it will essentially depend on how much salary you have coming off the books in the season the contract comes into play. I think we will be able to sign him to an extension unless we decide to go in another direction. I agree with wanting to keep him. A Club shall only be permitted to sign a Player to an "extension" of the existing SPC in the amount of: (A) the SPC of the Player to be extended (then included in the Club's Averaged Club Salary); plus (B) the Club's Payroll Room in the current year; plus (C) the aggregate Averaged Amounts of any other SPC or SPCs that expire at the end of such League Year (to extent the Club has other such SPCs which are currently counting in the Club's Averaged Club Salary); minus any previously Tagged Payroll Room. The Tagging Rule referred to in paragraph (e)(iv)(C) above will thereafter apply. Illustration #1: A Club, during the 2012-13 League Year, has $1.5 million of Payroll Room, and it has $4 million in Averaged Amount of SPCs scheduled to expire at the end of the 2012-13 League Year, including the $1 million Averaged Amount of Player B's SPC. The Club shall be deemed to have $5.5 million of Tagged Payroll Room and may "extend" Player B's SPC during the 2012-13 League Year with Player Salary and Bonuses of up to an Averaged Amount of $5.5 million.
  10. From section 50.5(f) of the CBA: A player can only sign an extension in the final year of their contract For players on a one-year contract, they need to wait until January 1 There are limits to how much a contract extension can be worth, to prevent cap circumvention
  11. You can add Bryan Marchment and Darius Kasparitis to that list.
  12. Yup, he was. He was about the same size as Biega with a similar work ethic, superior skill and much, much tougher than Biega so they eventually moved him up to the wing where he flourished.
  13. This looks so similar to what we are hearing and seeing with Boudreau taking over as coach. This was the season Sutter took over as head coach with the Kings really struggling in December (losing 6 of 8 and 5 in a row) and he managed to get them into the playoffs as the 8th seed. End result was a Stanley Cup victory.....is there still hope? Under Sutter, the Kings play an energetic style that emphasizes forechecking and immediate, continuous pressure. “We’re not sitting back as much,” Brown said. “It’s nice to be aggressive and know that you’ve got backup, as opposed to sitting in and letting the game come to you.” Opponents have noticed. “They don’t stop coming,” Blues center David Backes said after a 5-2 defeat in the second round. “Their top players play like third- or fourth-line players,” Coyotes goalie Mike Smith said after Tuesday night’s 4-0 loss.
  14. They need to get Miller's TOI down a little bit from his 21+ minutes he is playing most nights. Lowering his PP time just a little and getting him off PK entirely would be my preference. He will be a more effective and energetic player if he is playing 18-19 minutes.
  15. The pressure is now on all the players to perform. No excuses now and those that still underperform will be benched or moved out. Those that embrace this challenge will be the ones doing cartwheels........others not so much.
  16. Not big but tougher than nails and worked his arse off every damn shift. Couldn't make it as a d-man and willingly moved to forward where he really excelled as a two way player. If we had three Scott Walker's on our 3rd line we would be golden.
  17. Yeah, 7th round picks really are lottery picks and I think you may be somewhat optimistic hoping the Canucks may cash in on 2 of them per decade If we set the bar at 500 NHL games as "cashing in" we have barely achieved that with our 1st round picks. We have only had 4 1st round picks this century play 500 games and two of them did it primarily with other teams. Horvat and Kesler were the only 2 that did it with the Canucks while Umberger and Grabner did it primarily with other teams.
  18. Dixon Ward was our last 7th round pick to have a significant NHL career. He was drafted in 1988, played 537 NHL games, scored 95 goals and had 224 points over his career. Jason King was actually the next most successful 7th round pick since then. Played 59 games with 23 points. I believe our best 7th round pick ever was Doug Lidster.
  19. Pearson would never leave Bo. Seriously, I agree with you.
  20. I doubt luck is the deciding factor after 22 games so there must be something else. I guess their team defensive structure could be elite and cover up their deficiencies but I doubt it. I don't think it is elite goaltending although Campbell has been quite good. That only leaves the D group and I can only believe the individual pieces are better than we give them credit for or they are able to gel as a group for some reason.. Personally, I think it is simply that Rielly, Holl and Sandin are a little better that we think they are. They are doing something right defensively and we could only hope that our D could have the same results.
  21. So how can a team with 4 AHL capable, at best, D-men have the 2nd best GAA in the East. What is their secret?
  22. I know we all hate Toronto but they have the 2nd best GAA in the East so I am curious as to how you can call their defence "absolutely dreadful"? The statistics don't seem to back that claim.
