You'd have to complain to Gillis about the start times. The home team decides the start time, the league only decides what days. Networks often contact teams requesting specific start times to fit their schedule but it's up to the team whether or not they accommodate it.

What a complete crock of childish drivel.

How is it unfair when you look at Parise's salary and recent production at the time of signing? Plus that cap hit will be there unit he's 38. On top of that it was signed at a time the cap was known to be dropping, not increasing as projected now. Who is suggesting 8m? I'm not. Cap hit will depend largely on the length of the deal is what I'm suggesting. Two years at $5m would be a complete insult imo. And I'm not suggesting a 5 year deal at 7m per either. I think you're confusing salary and cap hit. I could see a five year deal that starts with a reasonable raise and ends with a smaller salary that brings the cap hit down. Btw, I believe those of you thinking they'll waive their ntc at the trade deadline if they aren't re-signed are dreaming. I think they'd be more inclined to play out their current deal and return to Sweden to finish their careers rather than relocating for a few months if Gillis chooses not to sign them. They wouldn't be the first to refuse to waive an ntc.

I'd say you're lowballing their open market value. 7-7.5m was their market value five years ago when the cap was 7.5m lower than this year and it's expected to go up next year. While knowing the cap would be going down this past season the Wild signed Parise at a 7.5m cap hit that sees him a ufa again at 38. The deal pays him 12m/12m/11m/9m/9m/9m/9m/9m/8m/6m. That deal came 3 years after his only 90+ points season and followed a 69 points in 82 games performance. Milan Lucic just re-signed at a 6m cap hit with a career high of 62 points. The Sedins have always been reasonable with their contracts but I really don't expect to see a pay cut. Possibly a declining deal that runs until they're 39 to get a better cap hit. I don't buy the notion being a package deal hurts them in negotiations. How many teams would jump at the opportunity to acquire two top line players with crazy chemistry already there without having to give up any assets? Did Minny balk at Parise and Suter as a package for a combined $15m+? Nope. And there were other teams interested knowing the cap was going down. Even if a team needs to move a contract they'd get two first line players and assets for the contract moved. A double win.

Rather ironic coming from the guy with Naslund as his user name.

The only unfortunate truths are: 1) there is no way to guarantee a Stanley Cup victory. 2) the only way to guarantee opportunity is to remain competitive year after year 3) there is no guarantee any draft pick will become an NHL super star. 4) wallowing away at the bottom for 4 to 6 years to get top picks will drive fans away and cost ownership money. 5) there are teams that have wallowed away for 5+ years that still struggle to make the playoffs There's your unfortunate truths. You allow the Sedins to walk at the end of this season for nothing and you begin the end. Lou will demand a trade to a more competitive team and others will likely follow suit. Then it will be 5 to 7 years before this team is competitive again. And that's if they draft well.

How is CBC "snubbing" us? We have more NHIC games than any other team in the west. How are your math skills? Math quiz #1: There's 5 western teams vying for the 7pm start and only 3 eastern teams vying for the 4pm start. Of those 3 eastern teams one is primarily televised on French CBC. Given the ratio who will have more televised games eastern or western teams? Math quiz #2: Population of BC is 4.6m Population of Ontario is 13.5m Which Province contributes more tax dollars to CBC? Btw, having a mere modicum of common sense isn't being anti-Canuck.

CBC can't "force" anybody to change their game time. Game time is determined by the home team alone. Any broadcaster can "request" a start different than the typical time but it's entirely up to the GM to agree with it. Of course most GM's understand that it's in their own best interest to work with broadcasters in this regard. Maximizing audience is good for the both team and the network and translates directly into revenue. CBC requested the Bruins change their game time for the first Canucks/Bruins game after the SCF from 1pm eastern to 7pm eastern. The Bruins declined as they were worried it would conflict with NFL playoff games which would cost their regional broadcaster viewers. Because the Bruins declined to change the game time CBC chose not to broadcast that game because traditionally starts that early draw low viewership in Canada. This was a case of the Bruins accommodating their regional broadcaster.

Perhaps because for the majority of the population that second game finishes at 1am. Meaning it doesn't draw nearly the audience the 4pm game does. That 4pm (7 eastern) is the real money maker for CBC. Also consider this: There are 5 teams in the west vying for the 7pm time slot while there are only 3 teams in the east vying for the 4pm time slot. The simple math of that tells me the eastern teams will have more televised games. Particularly when you consider many of the Habs games are actually on French CBC. And when you consider the population of Ontario alone is greater than BC, Alberta, and Manitoba combined it again makes sense that there would be more Ontario games televised. Btw, 3 of the Sens 17 games aren't on Saturday and 3 of their 14 Saturday games are early to give the Leafs or Habs the prime time slot (7pm eastern). Of their 11 prime time Saturday games 7 are against the Leafs or Habs. I'd say the Sens fans have more to whine about than Canuck fans regarding CBC. But we all know whose fans have earned the rep as the whiners. I checked their message board and there discussion lacks the complaints about CBC "bias" or being "snubbed". Oddly enough not even the Flames, Oilers, or Jets fans are complaining on their message boards about the Canucks having the most HNIC games in the west. Their boards are also suspiciously lacking terms like "snubbed" and "bias" regarding CBC. That paranoia seems to reside here alone.

The way to correct bad behavior is to point it out. Ignoring the incessant whining here won't reduce it.

This is true. national contracts are negotiated by the NHL and the revenue is shared league wide. Regional contracts are negotiated by individual teams and the revenue belongs to that team alone. I could care less what station televises Canucks games as long as I have the opportunity to see every game. I do like Saturday games (pub night) but I'm enough of a hockey fan to watch any game televised so it's not that big a deal to me if it's not the Canucks.
-
I really do get sick of the CBC whining. 1 - CBC is a business and as the Leafs draw the largest audience, and viewers translates to revenue, they get more games televised. 2 - Montreal has the most games as they are televised on French CBC.. No other team will draw the same rating as the Habs on French CBC. That's their market 3 - Your tax dollars are nothing compared to Ontario and Quebec. You complain it's "your tax dollars" yet if CBC televises fewer Leaf games and more Canuck games they'll need even more of "your tax dollars" to make up for a smaller audience. 4 - People whine about the CBC commentators and say they prefer SN or TSN, then whine when CBC isn't televising a game. It seems to me many here just want to whine about CBC for the sake of whining about them. Is it any wonder other teams fans call us Canuck fans whiners? Next up: more whining about the early game running late.....

Filppula 5 years @ $5m per Doesn't PK Doesn't play physical Doesn't agitate Only one 40+ point year in seven seasons Yet in your mind Burrows isn't worth $4.5m.

Sundin refused to waive his in Toronto as did one of the d-men. Players have declined to waive their ntc's. There's typically a reason a player will waive his ntc as opposed to doing it out of the goodness of his heart. -

Very unlikely. How much credibility will a GM have negotiating with players after getting a player to sign for a discount, give him a NTC, and then turn around and trade him? You can kiss any further player below market discounts good-bye. -

If Ballard is bought out as I suspect he will be, I'd say it was MG's call. If he suffered a long term injury he couldn't be bought out. We'll never know for sure but putting him in the press box was the only way to ensure he could be bought out. -

MG should have been first to go. -
That would be because at the beginning of the season he wasn't very good on the PP. So AV took him out of those situations until he got use to the system and got comfortable playing on his off side, the right side. To me that's easing a player into it as opposed to throwing him into a sink or swim situation. As Garrisons confidence grew on the right side he was given more responsibility. Seems to me that's coaching a player to succeed and he has.
-
How exactly was AV using him improperly? It always makes me laugh that it's AV's fault when a player doesn't perform well.

I just had to drag this one up. Garrison numbers prorated to an 82 game season.... 14g (8.5 shooting percentage) 14a 28pts +33 That's with a slow start due to no training camp or preseason to acclimate a new team and system. Not to mention less practice time during the season due to the condensed schedule. I'm lmao at you shmo. Here hit this again....
-
Many here have the memory of a two year old.
-
Home games AV often matched the Sedins up against the oppositions top line. Road games they always faced to oppositions shutdown line.
-
No, Edler sucked early on while Garrison struggled a bit with a new team and new system. Excuses that certainly didn't apply to Edler performance. I'd say Garrison played well after his first 15 games and has improved since with increased familiarity.
