So, what’s the purpose of this tournament? Do these games count toward the regular season standing? Seems stupid and pointless. Just imagine Jokic getting injured with a ACL tear, in this tournament and he’s out for the rest of the season. This is nothing like the Olympics, because that actually means something to players.

Considering, no one has yet to wear those numbers, since their deaths, aside from Messier wearing 11. It’s safe to say, those numbers are/were unofficially retired by the team.

[Signing] Canucks sign Carson Soucy

I mean, that like picking Boeser over Kuzmenko. Whatever the case, I think we dragged this on far too long to the point that neither of us will change our stance. -

I don’t like to argue, actually. We’re all adults here, and can have a civil conversation about hockey, without it being nasty. Hockey opinions differ from person to person. Just like everything else in life. You don’t have to agree on it. As long as it’s friendly banter. -

Not really when you’re using a chart from 2 years ago. Go read my post a few pages back, where Soucy’s analytics are from this year. Spoiler alert. -

Puckiq is a good way of measuring players who play in pivotal roles/situations. Out of his 1034 minutes. He only played 234 of them against elite competition, ranked last amongst the Kraken’s defensemen. To put it into perspective, all of our defensemen last year, who played more than 50 games. Played more against elite competition than Soucy. He also averaged just under 15 minutes per game, at even-strength. 13 of the 79 games, he played more than 18+ minutes and only one of them was over 20 minutes. Not really an endorsing stat for a potential top 4 defensemen. Does he play against top 6 opponents, sure. But that wasn’t his role. Dunn, Larsson, Oleksiak, and Borgen did the majority of the heavy lifting for Seattle’s defensive core. No one in Krakenland is losing sleep that he’s gone. Like I said, he’s a did a passable job playing in a bottom 6 role for Seattle, much like what Burroughs did for us. Not sure how well he’ll do playing in a bigger role here. I don’t expect much, though. If he was brought here to play in the bottom 6, that’s fine, but I wouldn’t have paid him 3m+ for it. -

It’s not hard to bother our mojo, when playing against the Virtanen’s, Leivo’s, Gaudette’s, Roussel’s of the world. -

Burroughs had over 25 more hits than Soucy, while playing a half of a season. Soucy also doesn’t play against elite competition, ranking last amongst Kraken’s defensemen. Borgen, a guy who played less than 20 NHL games prior, jumped pass him on the depth chart. As I mentioned, Soucy has never played in the top 4 in either cities he’s played in, aside from stepping in when an injury occurred. He’s barely even on the ice when the team is defending a one goal lead, at the end of the game. Burroughs and Soucy pretty much played in the same role, and both did a passable job. So, now people are assuming Soucy can take on a bigger role on our team, when he’s never done it before, better than Burroughs? Edit: Also, “watching the game” varies from person to person. Example, if a defensemen is puck watching along the corner boards, and the opposing player freed himself, making a pass to an open man in front of the net. The defensemen makes just enough disturbance to stop them from a goal. Is that equal to a good defensive play? No, because the defensemen should always be aware of what’s going on in front of the net. ie: this play (it’s not a coincidence that this play involves Soucy, because everyone has a hard-on for his play in the bubble.) Timestamp: 4:20ish. -

Just like how everyone saw how OEL, Myers, Hamonic, Gudbranson, Poolman, etc played on their previous teams before they got here, right? -

It isn’t, but it gives you in an unbiased view of a player. People suggesting Soucy is a better fit in our top 4, when neither players has ever played in the top 4 throughout their careers. Every micro/advance stats in the book suggests Burroughs is an equal player. I actually do watch both players. I’m curious to see why people think Soucy is a better fit on our top 4? While providing hard evidence. Not “you just need to watch them play”. -

I don’t see how Soucy is a borderline top 4B/5A, when analytically he and Burroughs has the same statistics, defensively. Soucy also has never played in the top 4 in either Minnesota or Seattle averaging 30 seconds per game against elite competition in his career. While Burroughs averages about the same as Soucy (he actually averages .02 seconds higher), in his short NHL career. If you compare both players on natural stat trick, this season. They pretty much have an identical advance stats, with Soucy being the better offensive defensemen. -

I mean, after he signed that extension Dumba has been regressing every year since. That expansion year, Soucy and Dumba practically had the same amount of points, while Soucy having no PP minutes. Soucy also led the entire team in +/- (yeah not really a fruitful stat, but still meaningful). So, they could have easily went with a different route and exposed Dumba and give Soucy a more predominant role on the team. Especially, a team that was cap strapped. I’m just saying, I would have preferred management try and court Dumoulin (4m/yrs) over here and re-sign Burroughs. Rather than paying Cole and Soucy 3m each. The former option probably would have saved us a million of cap. -

I read somewhere that the Jays actually had the best record in June, amongst the AL East teams. Yet, it doesn’t seem that way, with where they are in the standings. Probably because all those games against the AL East teams, they loss. -

All these winnable games/missed opportunities. They probably would have caught up to the Orioles, by now. Neither the Orioles or Yankees have been playing great, in the month of June. -

A full team of unprotected players? More than half of their rosters are made up of players that were signed or traded from a different team. The only OG Knights that were picked in the expansion draft were Carrier, McNabb, Marchessault, and Karlsson. I didn’t count either Smith or Theodore, because they were technically traded to the Knights. Pittsburgh left Fleury unprotected because they had a cheaper/viable option in Jarry to replace him. Something the Wild could have done with Dumba and replace him with Soucy. But Soucy isn’t a viable options, despite people thinking he “played great” in the bubble. Kraken didn’t even bother re-signing him, despite having a ton of cap, and no depth on defense. Knowing he probably wants too much, and isn’t worth it. Hence he was expendable. I’m not saying Soucy is a bad player, but if you’re expecting him to come in and be our saviour on the back end. He won’t. He’s no better than having a guy like Burroughs back there, who did a passable job for what he was worth. I certainly wouldn’t have paid Soucy 3m+. -

Exactly, they protected him because there was no other option. If Soucy was an viable option they would have given him a predominant role on the team and protected him. -

They been trying to get rid of Dumba for ages. Every year since he signed that extension, he’s been rumoured to be on the block, each year. -

He was Minnesota’s best players, so much they left him unprotected in the expansion draft. -

If the Wild left Soucy unprotected for cap reasonings. Then why didn’t they just expose Dumba instead, who carries a 5m caphit? Rather than letting a 24yrs old Soucy, that only carried a 2.7m caphit? I doubt Soucy was coveted in FA. He was linked to the Canucks well before FA started. He took our deal, probably because he knew he wouldn’t have gotten a better offer elsewhere. -

The fact that Soucy is on his third team and hasn’t really progressed, tells you he isn’t anything special and teams made him expendable. Soucy actually regressed from his first year with the Kraken. The Wild didn’t even think twice of protecting him in the expansion draft, even though Dumba was there to be left unprotected. Like I said, if they want a seasoned vet. Then they should’ve gauge interest in Dumoulin. A guy who is familiar with the front office and actually won the Stanley Cup. -

Seattle was ranked 23rd on the PK. I wouldn’t considered that good. Certainly better than us, though. -

Maybe that’s because Soucy practically played a full season, while Burroughs played half of a season? They pretty much averaged the same amount of SH minutes per game. Soucy = 1:42 Burroughs = 1:45 -

I mean, I’d rather have just keep Burroughs than paid 3m+ for a 3rd pairing guy. Cole is fine as a filler. -

You mean they couldn’t have given him an extra .500k and an extra year for a legitimate top 4 defensemen? Not to mention JR and Allvin has history with Dumoulin in Pittsburgh. Soucy is a borderline top 4 defensemen. Both the Wild and Kraken knew he was expendable.
