  1. Montreal really lack any defensive depth in their system and they already have Dach and Suzuki as their two centermen. Hughes also stated that Reinbacher is probably the best defensemen in the draft. So, it wouldn’t surprise me if they went with either him or ASP at 5.
  2. I don’t really put too much stock in these rankings. The rankings just gives you an idea of where they should go, based off certain scouts personally impressions of the player. What really matters is how teams ranked the prospects by their own list. This is why I said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Reinbacher or ASP are picked above their projected rank. Because, I’m willing to bet someone picking in the top 10 has them ranked in their top 5.
  3. How the hell are the Orioles this good? They pretty much have the exact same roster as last year’s team. I think everyone, myself included, eventually waiting for them to come down to earth after that hot start to the season, but it looks like they’re the real deal.
  4. Pettersson at age 16/17 played against men for 2 seasons, in Allsvenskan. Then for Vaxjo in the SHL for a year. Where was MacKinnon playing at that age and against who? Even though Allsvenskan is a tier below the SHL. They still have a better developmental program than the CHL or at least they prepare their young players better.
  5. You mean the same Braydon Point who already had a 40 goals, 92 point season while being a pivotal part of Tampa’s 2 Stanley Cups? Even after his 92 points season, he only sign a bridge deal worth 6.7m. Only now he’s being paid what he’s worth. Same with Tkachuk. Signed a bridge deal, got his money after repeating his season last year. You see where I am going with this? That’s basically what I’ve been saying this entire time. If Pettersson repeats the season he had. Then you can say he’s worth 11m+, but right now. At this very moment. He hasn’t proved he can replicate it. He could easily go back to being a 80-90 points player. Which the market value will be around 9.5m-10.5m.
  6. The only players who are getting major bank are the players who already accomplished more than what Pettersson has, at the current stage of his career. I mean look at a guy like Marner, who many think is overpaid. He scored 94 points that one season and got his money. So, if Pettersson gets 13% of the cap on his next contract. Is he going to be like Marner and be overpaid, because he had one good season, up to this point?
  7. Then why don’t we just compare them from the age 20-25, then? I can also argue that Pettersson was further in his development by dominating against men in Sweden. While MacKinnon was having subpar seasons at 18, in the NHL. Whatever the case, MacKinnon still has had more accolades and accomplishments than Pettersson up to that age.
  8. I never claim MacKinnon’s first 5 years were better than Pettersson’s. You’re the one who said, Pettersson has surpassed what MacKinnon did, when both players reached the age of 25. Which is simply not true. At the age of 25, MacKinnon was already a 3x Hart finalist, a Lady Byng winner, a Calder winner, had three 90+ points seasons, and 3 30+ goals seasons. What has Pettersson accomplished at the age of 25? One 100 points season. I don’t know why you bring up, he lost to Hall. So, what? Hall had a MVP calibre season, on a poor New Jersey team. He deserved it. MacKinnon also only played 71 games that season. He could have easily won that year, if he played a full season.
  9. You can’t be serious, right? There’s a difference between actually being a top 3 finalist and getting a 6th placed vote by some beat writer from Vancouver.
  10. Rantanen and Pettersson basically has the same numbers with the same trajectory, from the age of 21-24. Pettersson will get a bit more because of the stuff you mentioned. So, pretty much what I said, somewhere between 9.5-10.5m. In the past, I said Eichel is overrated, and I still do based off his salary. However, he did score well over a PPG for two seasons, after he signed that contract. Who knows how well his career would’ve been if he wasn’t hampered with injuries. Buffalo also had to do everything in their power to keep their franchise star happy. BTW, you said Pettersson is better than MacKinnon was at 25? Wasn’t MacKinnon a nominee for the Hart trophy that year? EDIT: Had to look it up, but MacKinnon was a 3-times Hart nominee before the age of 25.
  11. And how much did MacKinnon get on his second contract? He was paid for what he did up to that point and his potential. Which turned out in favourite for Colorado. Now he’s being paid for what he has done and his accolades. That’s the difference. Pettersson has yet to prove anything. One excellent season, doesn’t prove anything. And before you say; Pettersson is on his third contract, while MacKinnon was on his second. You have to take into consideration that Pettersson signed a bridge deal, while MacKinnon didn’t. He also started his career two years earlier than Pettersson. We’ll see how much he’ll get. But don’t act like he took at discount if he’s came in around what I projected.
  12. The last 6 seasons he was well over a PPG pace (1.39 PPG). Like I said, he had the reputation of being one of the best player in the game for 6 straight seasons. Pettersson has yet to make that claim off of one season. How many times have we seen teams pay a player for one great season, and they didn’t live up to their contract? Not saying Pettersson is one of those players, but it happens more often than not. Pettersson will get what he’s worth, based off what he’s done up to this point and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s under 11m. Regardless, he’ll be in the top 10 highest salaries, but it certainly wouldn’t be in the upper-upper echelons of players like McDavid or MacKinnon. I doubt Miller would have gotten that much on the open market, based off his age and the trajectory of his career. People can think otherwise, but paying a player in his late 20’s that much with term, will just handicap their cap in the future. Minimizing their moves to improve their team. That is why many people were against extending him to a long term contract.
  13. I don’t see the lack of producing quality Canadian goaltending that much of an issue. Those problems can be fix with a team who can defend well, in conjunction with, assembling a good coaching staff and implementing a good system. Canada’s second team, vice-versa, can easily matchup with any other countries best team. Huberdeau - Taraves - Konecny Batherson - Giroux - Verhgaehe Hagel - Thomas - Kyrou Smith - Stephenson - Scheifele HM: Horvat, Schenn, Toffoli Reilly - Burns Parayko - Hamilton Dunn - Weegar HM: Sprugeon, Pulock, Letang, Montour, Powers, Chabot, Chychrun Kuemper Fleury Hill HM: Binnington, Skinner Italics = Can make it on the A-team USA women’s hockey has always been good throughout their history. Even when we had prime Goyette, Wickenheiser, Ouellette, and Campbell.
  14. While other countries can put a good fight against Hockey Canada’s best team. Canada still has the depth (at least on forward and defense) that no other country can match. I mean, after team USA’s “A-team”, who do they have? Pavelski? Brock Nelson? Both who can make a case for their A-team.
  15. We wouldn’t have made the playoffs if there wasn’t a play-in tournament, that year. We were barely a .500 team. I don’t count the Covid year because of that. Having fans in the stands is a different facet than playing in front of no one. Any athlete will tell you that. You don’t need to be 100 points player every year, but you need to be consistent in prior years to show your worth. One year, doesn’t guarantee the bank. If he repeat the season he had, he’ll likely get a million more than what I purposed (10.5-11.5m). MacKinnon has set the standard. No one should be paid more than him, at the moment. Next up will be McDavid once his current contract is up. People will say I’m dreaming if Pettersson is going to come around 9.5m-10.5, but I think I can gauge the market better than most here. Considering most people on here thought Miller will get 9m+, when I said he’ll likely come around 7m-8m.
  16. You said, he’s comparable to those top guys, who already had the pedigree of being over a PPG player, prior to signing their big contracts. Pettersson only has had ONE season over a PPG. Not to mention, he hasn’t had the ability to take his team to the playoffs, so far. Even McDavid, with a team who hasn’t had a viable NHL goalie since he entered the league and a sub-par defensive core could will his team to the playoffs. If he has another season, like he did this season. Then, he could get somewhere between those players, but right now, he’s more comparable to someone like Rantanan when he signed his contract (9.5-10m for 5/6 yrs, is my guess).
  17. The Miller trade proposal really need to stop. Just face it people, he’s here for the long haul. We had a chance to ship him out last off-season, when his value was at it’s highest, but management invested in him long term. Which imo, probably was the wrong decision.
  18. Defensive acumen aside, because no one really pays top superstar players for defensive stats. From age 21-24: McDavid - 1.58 PPG MacKinnon - 1.29 PPG Matthews - 1.25 PPG Pastrnak - 1.17 PPG Pettersson - 1.01 PPG One of these things aren’t like the other.
  19. Ironically, his most iconic role is a character who doesn’t speak.
  20. I think the “I only want to play for Montreal” is blown way out of proportion, just because he lives 45 mins away from the Bell Centre. I’m almost certain he’ll welcome to an extension on a contending team, who has the room to fit him there long term. Carolina or New Jersey are the ideal fits for him, given the age of their core, and window to win the Cup.
  21. To Montreal: PLD Dillon To Winnipeg: Dach Anderson 2nd round pick
  22. It’s doable. They just need to win against the teams in front of them in the AL East. The Jays were like 8 games back, at the deadline in 2015, and won the division convincingly by 6 games.
  23. Probably need to get rid of Atkins and Shapiro as well, considering he had some choice words about management when they dealt him.
