[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
shiznak replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Because the Rangers’ left side is pretty weak, aside from Lindgren. Lindgren - Fox Chychrun - Trouba K’Miller - Nemeth That defensive core would probably be one of the best core, since Nashville circa 2016. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
shiznak replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
This is my exact feeling. At this point, if we become seller at the deadline, I’ll be happy with Chytil, Lundkqvist, and a conditional 2nd (covert to a 1st, if the Rangers make the conference finals). I just believe Schneider is probably on their untouchable list, based on Gallant mentioning one of the reason why he took the job was because of Schneider, when he coached him at the Worlds. If they were to trade Schneider, it would be for someone like Chychrun. A player who fits their core group range and has a more terms on his contract. -
I could see them interested in Klimovich and a 3rd or Rathbone and a 2nd.

He’s probably not as high on the list as you think. Turcotte and Byfield are ahead of him, and possibly JAD, as well. He’s probably a good buy-low candidate considering his back issues and the Kings’ depth in centermen.

[Discussion] The Value of JT Miller

That’s why they brought in Reeves and Goodrow. To take care of the physicality. And it’s not like Pavelski shy away from the physicality. 3rd amongst forwards on his team in hits and blocked shots. He’s 37, and already has a lot of mileage. He’s not in his prime anymore, running around throwing his body. His body also taken a ton of punishment over the years, playing in front of the net on the PP. -

That rules only applies if a player re-sign. I could be wrong but there’s no ruling if a team makes it to a certain round of the playoffs. -

Pavelski has more goals and points than Miller this season, and is the only reason why Dallas is staying afloat in the conference. He’s a proven playoff performer scoring clutch goals, and like Miller can play all three position. He’s also a career 55% on the dot. Dallas will be looking at Lundkqvist as the centrepiece replacing Klingberg, when he eventually gets traded/walks. I can see Dallas accepting something like Lundkqvist and two 2nd round picks (one conditional if they make it to the conference finals). Giroux isn’t worth a ton, he’s 34 and hasn’t been a PPG player in 3 seasons. Chytil, Kravtsov and a 3rd, I can see Philadelphia accepting. -

Nemeth and Goodrow are probably the two ideal options, but both have NTC/NMC. I don’t see teams dying to trade for their services and I don’t think they’ll waive to go to a bottom feeding team. If Miller gets traded to NY, Strome is as good as gone, in the summer. My guess he’ll be looking at the 6m - 7m range (same as Hayes) on the open market. Even if they don’t trade for Miller. The chances of re-signing Strome is pretty low. The two camps recently talked but nothing came out of it. -

Again, hard to retain him with all those big contracts extensions and entry deals expiring coming into play, all within two years. -

I never said they were going to stand pat at the deadline. I said they weren’t willing to sell their future for a chance of winning the Cup and then risk losing Miller to free agency in a year and a half, if they fail. If they don’t win within that timeline. They essentially lose Strome and Miller, to free agency; Chytil, Schneider, and a draft pick. That’s a deep blow in their center depth. If they are looking for help upfront. I would be looking for rentals, someone like Joe Pavelski or Giroux with a year left on their contracts. Those guys would probably be way cheaper to acquire/retain, without losing young assets. -
Anyone voted for the NBA starters? These were my selections. West FC: Jokic LeBron Valanciunas BC: Curry Morant East FC: Embiid Giannis Durant (this was before he was injured) BC: Young Garland

Having an abundance of one position isn’t necessary a bad thing. You look at Tampa and their left-side. Hedman, McDonough, and Sergachev. They all play 20+ minutes a night. Trouba only has 4 years left on his contract after this year. They could just ease Schneider onto the team, playing him 16-19 mins a game, until Trouba’s contract expires. -

I don’t think they want him as much as we think they do. They could just re-sign Strome at a cheaper cost, and be content with their team. Miller would be a nice add for them, but not at the expense of Schneider. In reality, I just don’t see Drury giving up three core pieces for Miller. I could see something like Chytil, Lundkvist, and a conditional 2nd (1st if they reach the conference finals). -

Its about having flexibility for the future. How long are you expecting Lafreniere, K’Miller, Lindgren, and Kaapo to hover around the 2-3M range once their entry level deals are over? Miller will most likely sign a 8M, 6yrs deal once his current deal is up. That contract is going to look regrettable at the tail end of it, when they need to extent 4 of their core pieces to longer contracts. Krieder will only have 4 years left once Miller gets his mega deal. I think they would rather just keep Krieder and hope he continues to play at his current level than re-sign Miller for 6 more years at that amount. Worst case scenario they could always buyout Krieder and it would still be less than what they would pay for Miller. -

One of the reasons why Gallant took the job in NY, was because of Schneider. He coached him at the World Championships and absolutely raved about him. Said his demeanour and his work ethic was like a NHL veteran at his age. Three games into his NHL debut and Trouba joked about how he was going to take over his position on the team. I would seriously doubt Schneider is on the table in any trade. He’s pretty much an untouchable for the Rangers. -

Assuming this is the 2024 roster, and the cap rises to 83M. Panarin (11.5M) - Zibanejad (8.5M) - Kaapo (2M) Lafreniere (3M) - Miller (8M) - Krieder (6.5M) Goodrow (3.5M) - ??? - Gauthier (1.5M) ??? - ??? - ??? Lindgren (3M) - Fox (9.5M) Miller (2M) - Trouba (8M) Nemeth (3.5M) - ??? Shesterkin (5.5m) ??? 76M - with 14 players signed. 7M left to find a back up, a third line centermen, an entire 4th line, a bottom 6 defensemen and 3 more players to fill your roster. This assuming, Lafreniere and K’Andre Miller doesn’t breakout and they sign Kaapo to a bridge deal at 2M. Also, worth noting Lindgren who plays top minutes with Fox will also need to be re-sign the following year. Both Nemeth and Goodrow have NTC/NMC so it will be hard to trade any of those two. -

Why did it take so long? Because the price was too high for Eichel despite his uncertainty of his neck. I mean, it wasn’t like teams weren’t asking for his services. Calgary, LA, SJ, Bos, all were in the sweepstakes for Eichel. Zibanejad’s and Fox’s contracts come into play next year. They have roughly 9M (7M if you count Miller) and only 13 players signed. Kaapo and Gauthier will need to be re-sign; plus they need a backup. After next season, K’Andre Miller and Lafreniere will need to be re-sign. Also, if you think Tartar wasn’t a throw-in. Gord Miller spoke about this on the TSN690. -

Tuch just recently came back. Eichel is already skating just after three weeks of his surgery and could return by the end of February. Eichel has 5 more years remaining on his contract and despite his neck injury is a proven 30+ goals scorer (at least on pace). While the Rangers will only be getting a year and a half of Miller and then lose him to free agency. Miller’s next contract will probably be upwards to 8M. Do you think the Rangers are willing to pay three future pieces, for a year and a half of Miller? The point per game is a moot point once Miller’s next contract comes into play. If Miller keeps up his production, he’s going to get upwards to 8M+ on his next contract. If you ask me who would I rather have Miller at 8M or Eichel at 10M. I think I’ll take a risk of Eichel’s injury and pick the latter (this coming from me, who thinks Eichel is overrated). I can assure you, that Vegas does not make the Pacioretty trade if Montreal doesn’t take on Tartar’s contract. -

If you think Eichel was damaged goods, then you could say the same thing about Tuch and Krebs, since both were coming off major surgeries. Despite his neck injury, Eichel was over a ppg player in his last three seasons……..so surely he should be worth more than Miller? Throw-in as Montreal was force to take on Tartar’s contract to match Max’s caphit. Its the same reason why we threw in Roussel and Beagle in the OEL trade. -

O’Reilly was also signed for 6 more years, which is a bargain in today’s cap world. New York is basically trading the future for a year and a half of Miller, which they won’t be able to re-sign once his current contract is up. Tartar was a throw-in to cancel Max’s caphit. -

The Chytil, Schneider, and a 1st; proposal that everyone is mentioning is pretty much more than what Vegas paid for Eichel. Are you saying Miller’s value is greater/on par with Eichel? -

I don’t think Drury will part ways with Schneider quite honestly. Gallant raved about the kid, when he coached him at the World Championships last year, and Trouba already joked that this kid is going to take over his job. The organization are high on him and I’m certain he’s on the untouchable list. I could see them giving up Chytil, Lundkvist, and a conditional 2nd round pick (1st if they make it to the conference finals) I just don’t believe the rest of the league values Miller as highly as we do. -

I wouldn’t say Stone, O’Reilly, and Pacioretty were comparable value. O’Reilly and Stone were regarded as two of the best two-way players in the league and Pac wanted out of Montreal. Stone was only suppose to be a rental, and Vegas only gave up one of their top prospects and a 2nd. While in the Pac deal, they gave up their other top prospect and another 2nd. Tartar was just a throw-in. St.Louis, gave up two bottom 6 players (cap relief), a mid-tier prospects, a 1st round pick that ended up being the 30th pick, and a second for O’Reilly. Chytil, Schneider and a 1st seem to be the deal everyone is clamouring for. Though, I highly doubt Drury is ready to sell the future for two years of Miller, when he could just re-sign Strome at the same price range with a longer deal.
