[Discussion] JT Miller to Rangers
shiznak replied to Doogie's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
We don’t necessary need to retain, but the Rangers will be tight against the cap for next year when Zibanejab’s and Fox’s contracts kicks in. They will have 13 players signed for next season, with roughly only 7M in cap space (without any retention). Kaapo and Gauthier will need to be re-upped. Plus, they will need to find a backup goalie. -
[Official] Toronto Blue Jays Major League Baseball thread

Just for the record, the Jays hired her as apart of their farm system, not the actually club. I believe Martinez is still the hitting coach for the big club, with Bo’s father as a part-time assistant. -
[Waivers] Alex Belzile, Cam Dineen
shiznak replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I’m not going to lie. I wanted Dineen in 2016. That knee injury early in his junior career really derailed his NHL career. -
[Rumour] Tyler Motte drawing interest
shiznak replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I’ll be looking to trade Motte to Colorado for Tyson Jost. Colorado is looking to get grittier in their lineup, and Motte would be a cheap option for them, playing in their bottom six. It seem like Jost has fallen out of place with Bednar, demoting him to the 4th line. He still has good upside who can play up and down the middle six, and is pretty versatile, able to play all three forward positions. Colorado will also need to qualify him when MacKinnon’s deal is up, and would probably be cheaper to re-sign Motte than qualifying Jost at 2.2M. So, it saves them a bit of cap. Motte and a 2nd/3rd for Jost. -

[Proposal] pettersson to the rangers
shiznak replied to tas's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Rangers don’t have enough cap space to fit Pettersson under the cap next season. They roughly have 9M in cap space, with only 13 players signed for next season. We’ll have to retain some salary. -
[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Carolina Hurricanes | Jan. 15, 2022

If it’s bad habits from a previous regime then the onus is on the coaches and the players. For the players, you don’t go back on those bad habits, when you know it doesn’t work out. For the coaches, it’s your job to tell your players, to kick those bad habits because it isn’t going to work well in his system. -

More or less an excuse that the team just isn’t good enough, regardless of the coach. Funny when the team was winning, people were saying the team finally washed out Green’s philosophies out of their system. Does those philosophies magically come back, when the team is losing? -

Even though Green has been fired for well over a month. He’s still being blamed for losses. -

Here’s something to dwell on. (not meant to rag on Petey). Milan freakin’ Lucic has more goals than Pettersson. That’s a little upsetting. -
I think ideally, you’ll have to move OEL if we acquire Chychrun. He doesn’t fit with this team’s window to compete and his play doesn’t really account for his caphit. He’s been fine defensively, but offensively he has been nonexistent. We could’ve just re-signed Edler, and he’ll probably be doing the same thing OEL been doing for us, but without the huge caphit. Having said that, Chychrun has played on the right side before in juniors and most recently last year, where he had his best offensive year. So, maybe he’s more comfortable playing on the right side? Now, the question is who does he play with? I don’t think he will mesh well with Hughes, as both players like to carry the puck and go on the attack. Phoenix/Arizona tried playing OEL with Chychrun before, but it was a failed experiment. Although this was when OEL was more of a puck carrier and Chychrun was just breaking into the league. I could see them working well in the present day.

Just like with any other sports, when the lockout is over. Need an upgrade at 3rd base and possibly a 5th starter, unless they’re comfortable with Stripling or Pearson in that position. I’ll take a flyer on Julio Teheran, though and see what Walker can do with his mechanics. -
[Report] Canucks name Jim Rutherford as president & interim GM
shiznak replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Like I said, I bet only 1 or 2 of those prospects will ever make it into the NHL. We seen first hand (Schroeder, Juolevi, and to a lesser extent Hodgson) that even though a player dominates the tournament. They do not bring the same success to the NHL level. -
[Proposal] Pettersson for Lafreniere
shiznak replied to WEVEGOTMOTTE's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Rangers are in some internal cap problems as it is and they won’t have the space to fit in Pettersson’s caphit for next season. We’ll have to take on some salary coming back, and I don’t see them trading away Strome (who is a pending UFA anyway) along with Lafreniere as a package for Pettersson. Nemeth could be a player they could send back, but he has a NTC, and I don’t expect him to waive it for a bubble team. Chytil is another player, but that would decimate their entire third line. -
[Proposal] Miller to NYR for Schneider package.
shiznak replied to aGENT's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Not sure if Drury is willing to sell the future of a few seasons of Miller, when they could easily just re-sign Strome at a cheaper cost without giving up any assets. -

Carolina has been picking in the top 15 in 9 of the past 12 drafts. 2020 - 13th overall 2018 - 2nd overall 2017 - 12 overall 2016 - 13th overall 2015 - 5th overall 2014 - 7th overall 2013 - 5th overall 2011 - 11th overall 2010 - 7th overall -

Last year Carolina had 5 representatives, while we had 4. In 2019, they only had 2 (one which was a loan), while we again had 4. Again, these rosters don’t dictate how well your team’s scouting is. -

That means absolutely nothing. Quality over quantity. We could literally draft all the prospects from the entire Swiss team, but that doesn’t mean they make a good prospects pool. I’d wager to bet, only one or two of them actually make it into the NHL. -
[Rumour] Coyotes gauging market on Jakob Chychrun
shiznak replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Eye test is just as bad as the “analytic stuff” if it comes from a bias point of view. You’re not going to intentionally slander your own players, because you’re a fan of the team you watch. -

The shot quality/quantity of where the opposition shoot the puck. The chart shows Hughes prevention rate against scoring chances, when he’s on the ice is in the 37% percentile of the league. -

Hughes is a bit of an enigma in his own end. He is almost always roaming around, which makes him get caught out of position a lot. He also doesn’t have the body to win a lot of puck battles along the board. He led the team in high danger scoring chances against and 2nd in scoring chance against at even-strength. You can see his even strength defense has only improved by 13%, but it’s still below the league’s average percentile. -

Yeah, I missed Vasilevskiy and maybe both Hertl and Klefbom as core players for their team. The rest are pretty much role players, playing in a supportive role on their teams. Dobberhockey did a nice article about the probability of picks in a certain ranges. https://dobberprospects.com/2020/05/16/nhl-draft-pick-probabilities/ -
I cheer for certain players/teams to do well based on my fantasy team.
