  1. What? I didn’t say we would be trading OEL back to Arizona. I said, if we were to acquire Chychrun; OEL would be made expendable in a different trade. There’s a reason why Arizona made OEL expendable. It would be the same situation here. I think we already have enough veterans presence on the back end (Myers, Poolman, Hamonic, Schenn).
  2. This would probably look bad on the team’s image, considering we just acquired him this past off-season, but OEL would probably be expendable if we traded for Chychrun. OEL doesn’t fit the team’s direction, with his age and his massive contract.
  3. Chychrun would probably play on the right side, since he’s done it before in juniors. This is nothing more than hearsay, if anything and if we were to acquire him, it’s going to take a lot to get him, despite his “struggles” this season. He’s a legitimate top 2 defensemen, playing on the worst team imaginable, with a team-friendly contract signed for 3 more years. You’re looking and at least Hoglander, Podzolkin, and maybe two first.
  4. No. I mean, there’s Larsson, but he’s no better than Lammikko at this point.
  5. It’s more likely Chychrun will be moved to the right side considering, he has played there before in juniors. It’s also unlikely Arizona will be trading him unless you’re willing to part ways with Hoglander, Podkolzin and a couple of first round picks.
  6. Just for the sake of having a Jack Hughes on the team.
  7. Hughes gets a ton of leeway on this board. Even last season, when he was playing horribly. People always gave him the benefit of doubt. I however, just see it like it is. If a certain player, plays a bad game (in my eyes), I’m not afraid to call them out.
  8. I agree to a certain extent. Analytics can be garbage…… without context. Hughes’ corsi has been outstanding for the entire season (63%), but that due to him having his offensive zone start over 73% on the season. Your corsi will obviously be consistently good when you play in the offensive zone, playing against middle tier players. This game, he was matched up against the two top lines and his advance metrics plummet by a lot. Out of his 500+ minutes on the season, only 169 minutes of them are against “elite” competition. He rarely goes up against the opposition top line and when he does it’s only because we’re trailing in games, looking for offense. If you want to look at the eye-test. Just in the first 2 minutes of the game, he lost the battle along the boards against Scheifele and Scheifele made an uncontested pass to Wheeler for a good scoring chance. On Wheeler’s goal, he loss position in front of the net against PLD, and was caught in no man’s land trying to deflect the puck. On Wheeler’s second chance scoring opportunity, Hughes whiffed trying to keep the puck in and let Wheeler sneak in the backdoor for a scoring chance. On the disallowed goal, he was pressured by PLD, gave the puck away, and then let PLD walk in front of the net.
  9. I mean, BB didn’t really have a choice but to play him heavy minutes. He was our only viable left handed defensemen, last night. It was a gutsy effort by Hughes, but it wasn’t anything spectacular, like everyone here claims. This game was the only game this season where his defensive zone start was over 60% and he got killed in the possession game when he was on the ice. 14 shots against at even strength to 9. No defensemen on the team was even remotely close to those numbers, not even his defensive partner.
  10. Plot twist: Rutherford hires Jim Benning as Director of Scouting (AGM).
  11. You do realize that the only member from his playing days here that attended his jersey retirement was Gino, right? Why do people rag on Linden for missing Bure’s jersey retirement, but ignore that Bure also never attended Linden’ jersey retirement?
  12. It’s not a better indicator if your opinion is bias. Defensively, he had one of his worst games. The ice was heavily tilted for the Jets when he was on. At even strength, Jets had 36 scoring chances and Hughes was on the ice on 20 of them.
  13. His xGF% was 29%, while his corsi rating was 38% at even strength. I wouldn’t consider that good defensively. He matchup against Winnipeg’s top line and looked like he was struggling a bit.
  14. How it is a meaningless stat? Do you know why Hughes gives up these scoring chances? If you pay close attention, you often see him out of position. He can barely win his puck battles along the boards or push guys out of the way in front of the net. Yet people think he can play on the PK.
  15. You’re looking at 5v5. I specifically said even strength. Hughes plays a ton of minutes, but he does not get to match up against the opposition top lines. Out of his 500+ minutes, only 149 of them are against “elite” competition (according to puckiq). It’s pretty concerning that he gives up the most scoring chances against on the team, while playing against mid-low tier players.
  16. A week ago they were ranked 1 and 4 in even strength scoring chances against. Hughes: Scoring chances against (EV) - 225; leads the team High danger scoring chance against (EV) - 89 leads the team Pettersson: SCA - 185; 5th on the team HDCA - 67; tied for 5th If you want to put it into perspective. Chychrun who has the worst +/- rating in the entire league and plays against tougher minutes. Has 10 less scoring chances against and 4 less high danger scoring chances against than Hughes. Playing on one of the worst defensive teams in the league.
  17. I wouldn’t want two of our top guys (Hughes and Pettersson) who give up the most scoring chances against on our PK.
  18. He was starting to turn things around after a slow start.
  19. Why would McPhee leave his position in Vegas? I voted for Futa. He’s a former scout that was apart of the LA Kings Cup champion teams. I would also like to see them bring in Scott Salmond in some capacity.
  20. Some things are never meant to be shared. Maybe things turned so sour between ownership and him, that he doesn’t want to bad mouth the organization that he loves and cared for his entire career? Airing out his dirty laundry was never his motto. I think there’s this huge myth that Linden was a vocal leader in the locker room, but we never really saw any proof of that from behind the scene or heard stories from people who were closed to him. This is the guy who got two injections in his ribs, and never said a word to his teammates about it. Linden was more of a leader on the ice and in the community. This is why he’s cherished in this city.
