  1. That was one of the worst management game by Schneider. - Pulling Kikuchi when he was cooking. Could have saved Richards/Swanson for the 7th and 8th. - Pitch hitting Kirk for Varsho, with the bases loaded and only one out. Kirk has been a ground ball machine this season. I would much rather have Luplow up there than Kirk. - Not intentionally walking Teo.
  2. I mean if Hughes doesn’t have a career year in assists and you take away Kuzmenko league’s leading 27% shooting percentage. I doubt Pettersson reaches 100 points. More likely 80-90 points. Do you see Kuzmenko having a career 27% for the rest of his career, playing along side Pettersson? Doubt it.
  3. You just answer your own question. Why did he “regress” from the previous year, despite some of his teammates having better numbers from the previous season. The team as a whole regressed offensively. They went from 2nd in the league in offense to 11th this year. Even if you add the 20 goals, Matthews didn’t score from the previous year. They’d still be sitting at 8th in the league. The reason for that is Rielly and Bunting, who underperformed offensively. Reilly had 41 points this year compare to 68 last year (although he didn’t play a full season). Bunting, one of his primary linemates, went from 63 to 49.
  4. Are players not allowed to have down years? If Crosby was a bad example, how about Ovechkin, then? 50 goals, 110 points in 2010. 32 goals and 85 points in 2011. 38 goals and 67 points in 2012.
  5. That’s not a bad analogy, I’m just using your own analogy against you. You said Matthews is already starting to regress, because he went from 106 points to 85, when in fact he’s ALWAYS been scoring at a near point per game rate, since his second season. So, how is that any different from the Crosby comparison? Crosby was scoring at a 1.4 rate, the first 6 years of his career. Then down to a 1.2 rate after his concussion years. How about our very own Henrik and Daniel? After their Hart/Art Ross wins, their scoring went down considerably. Also, I find it funny how you say Matthews isn’t a 100 point player, because he’s only done it once in his career. But you continuously say Pettersson will put up 100 points seasons, here on out. When he’s only done it once, and has never been PPG player until this season. You’re kind of contradicting yourself, here.
  6. One of the greatest of this generation, Crosby. Went from 104 points to 84 points the following year and didn’t break the 100 mark, 5 years later. This all in his prime. The concussions and injuries didn’t help, but he was still a PPG player, and played most of the regular season, up until 2019. It’s foolish to judge Matthews for one “off” year, and ignore what he’s done in the past.
  7. I’m not sure what you’re trying to prove. I already said, Matthews shouldn’t be paid more than MacKinnon, who should be the standard for the next batch of contracts. I don’t care about inflation of the cap. No one was paid more than McDavid, when he signed his contract, until MacKinnon, despite the cap rising 7% from 2018-2022. That’s how GMs should look at it. You’re going on-and-on about Pettersson, possibly being better than both MacKinnon and Matthews, when he hasn’t really proven anything. Last season, he had a breakout year. That’s good for him, but what else has he shown so far that warrants him to be better than both players? Those guys had the resume of being top players in the league for 4-6 seasons. Until Pettersson can continue to put up his 100 points, Selke worthy seasons. He shouldn’t be getting the upper echelon money. At the end of the day, if Pettersson wants to capitalize his earnings. He’ll sign a mid-term deal around 5 years, at 9.5-10m and cash-in on his retirement contract on his next deal. This is probably the best scenario for both parties.
  8. Matthews missed like 3 weeks with a knee injury, which caused him to miss 8 games. If he played a full season he probably hits close to the 100 points mark and this being labelled a down year for him. Regardless, Pettersson shouldn’t be paid Matthews’ money, at this moment, whatever it turns out to be. Matthews resume has been far superior than Petterrson’s, so far.
  9. So, if Pettersson regresses to 80-90 points next season, which is more likely than him hitting 120 points. What does that tell you? You’re acting like it’s all downhill from here for Matthews, who’s only a year older than Pettersson.
  10. When McDavid signed his contract, no one was paid more than him, until MacKinnon. Despite the cap rising 7% since.
  11. Unlike Pettersson, Matthews actually made the playoffs since being drafted, and has carried his team to the post-season. His success in the playoffs is a different story, but at least he made the Leafs relevant since the Sundin era. Matthews played on the second line, with first PP minutes. As evidence with averaging 17-18 minutes a game, during his first 3 seasons.
  12. I’m pretty sure Bunting and Hyman can thank Matthews for their new contracts. I like how people like to pretend Pettersson is some sort of playoff performer, when he’s only been to the post-season once, and that’s only if you count the bubble. We wouldn’t have even made the playoffs that year, if there wasn’t a play-in tournament. Matthews rarely played with Marner until Keefe showed up. The first few seasons he played with a combination of Kapanen, Hyman, Nylander, Marleau, and Johnsson. Babcock always had Marner playing with Tarvares. I think you vastly underrate Matthews’ playmaking skills. He had back-to-back 40+ assists seasons. If you combine the last two seasons of each player, he would only trail Pettersson by 8 assists, while playing like 15 less games.
  13. I’ve always said, MacKinnon should be the standard for the next batch of contracts. No one should be paid more than him, until McDavid’s next contract (despite cap going up).
  14. How is it any different when the Leafs or Habs come to town and half of Rogers arena are their fans?
  15. I don’t know how people think Pettersson is even remotely close to Matthews’ level. One is a 2x Hart nominee, 5x 40+ goal scorer (one of those years was a 60 goals season) and has been over a PPG player, throughout his career. The other, only has had one superb season, and 3 seasons under a PPG (didn’t count the 2021 season where he missed most of it). Even in Matthews’ “off” year. He still manage to score 40 goals, and have 80+ points. But keep pumping Pettersson’s tires.
  16. So, apparently the Mariners store had a section of Blue Jays merchandises for their upcoming games in Seattle, but the Mariners players voiced their displeasure and it got taken down. I haven’t gone to a Blue Jays game in Seattle since 2017, but didn’t they always sell Blue Jays gear when they came to town?
  17. It’s not a question of, if a player wants to come to Vancouver. It’s a question of where this franchise is currently at. I’m sure Backlund would consider coming to Vancouver, if we were a legitimate playoff team. We’re not. He’ll be coming to a team that might fight for a wildcard spot, just like Calgary. He could easily put our team on his list. Arizona San Jose Montreal Anaheim Chicago Philadelphia Detroit Ottawa Vancouver St.Louis
  18. Exactly, they already have Mangiapane AND Dube, who essentially plays a similar style as Garland. Garland would be just as redundant in Calgary. Boeser would be a better fit, but even then that is a stretch, in a player swap. Players waive their NTC to go to a contender, not for a chance to play with a specific player, on a middling team. If Edmonton was a bottom dwelling team. I doubt any high end player would waive their NTC just to play with McDavid.
  19. I don’t know which dimension you lived in, but Nashville has never relied on their offense.
  20. Just what Calgary needs; more overpaid/small wingers in their lineup.
  21. What’s more baffling is none of the top 3 teams in salary payroll are currently in a playoff spot.
  22. Reports/media outlets have to say alleged because if there isn’t a clear evidence, they don’t want to be sued with defamation. https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/law-and-life/why-do-journalists-use-words-like-claimed-and-alleged/#:~:text=If the journalist cannot confirm, happened to avoid a lawsuit.
