  1. Heck, I’ll settle for Hatcher or even Sydor.
  2. Hate to play Devil’s advocate here, but Wiki isn’t the greatest resources of information. Also the first word in the circle said alleged, meaning she claim something without proof.
  3. Imagine what this franchise would have looked like if we drafted Jagr and Brodeur, instead of Nedved and Antoski.
  4. I’m pretty sure he was also the guy who let Messier whizz by him, on the first goal too and never decided to back-check.
  5. With the trade deadline a few weeks away, rumour has it the Jays are interested in bringing back Stroman. If that happens, they easily have the deepest rotation, in baseball. Gausman Stroman Bassitt Berrios Manoah/Kikuchi Bullpen long arm: Ryu/Manoah/Kikuchi
  6. A 22-yes old, former 1st overall pick, who at worst can get you 30 points isn’t worth a 2nd round pick? According to an article from dobberhockey, the success rate of finding a bonafide player in the second round is at 34%. You obviously move one of Garland or Beauvillier to make room for Lafreniere.
  7. I think I’d gladly take a 30-40 points NHL player for a 2nd round pick that has less than a 40% chance of ever making into the league. Also we’re not talking about a cast off, who is 24/25. He’s going to turn 22 this season. Still has the potential to be a star in this league.
  8. 3 of those 4 1st round exits were against top 3 teams in the league. Nashville should have been a series win, but their defense was top tier, along with Rinne in net. The 2nd round loss was against Chicago, the eventual Cup winner. I don’t think you can call him mediocre with one of the best winning percentage as a head coach in league’s history.
  9. They made the playoffs 5 straight years, after Lidstrom retired.
  10. Right, I totally forgot it was a 2024 2nd, not a 2023 2nd. I’m also surprised no teams have even thought about giving him an offer sheet. I mean, there’s little risk to take on a 4m/1yr deal. Worst case scenario, he puts up 30-35 points.
  11. 4m in LTIR. One of Beauvillier or Garland would be gone, if a trade were to happen.
  12. With the Rangers only having 2m of cap space left and still need to re-sign Lafreniere. Do make yourself a target by offering an offer sheet to Lafreniere in the 3-4m range? The compensation would only be a 2nd round pick.
  13. They haven’t really started the full rebuild until Yzerman came in. When Holland was still there, he said they were retooling on the fly. Hence, why he signed guys like Green, Daley, and Bernier. They made the playoffs the year Babcock left, and haven’t since. Also, I don’t think Detroit was that much of a powerhouse team, like the mid-90s. Yeah, they had Datsyuk and Zetterberg p, in their prime but they also had aging veterans that were on their last legs.
  14. Supporting players can be core players, fyi. I highly doubt Horvat would have gotten a mega deal, if management made him a priority last offseason. 7m/yr, probably was enough for him to remain a Canucks for life. I don’t agree re-signing Miller was the correct move, even though he’s the better player. I’m not a fan of paying someone in his late-20s huge amount and term. Especially, when we’re about two years away from actually contending for the Cup. The logical decision would have been re-signing Horvat (7m/yr), trading Miller when his value was at his highest, and fixing the defense with the assets we acquired from the Miller trade.
  15. I think you underestimate how good Babcock is as a coach. Anaheim had no business playing in the playoffs that year, let alone make it all the way to the finals. To say Babcock rode Giguere is inaccurate. Considering Bryan Murray had Giguere the previous year, and they were 2nd last in the West. It’s also not a coincidence that the Red Wings have only made the playoffs once since Babcock’s departure.
  16. Matthews broke the franchise’s rookie goals total and is only the 16th player in league’s history to reach 40 goals in his rookie season. Not sure if that is warrant of his contract, but it’s certainly remarkable for a player at 18/19. I think the best case scenario for both parties is they agree on a 9.5m-10.5m deal/5yrs, because that’s what he’s worth right now. This gives Pettersson another chance of a bigger contract when it expires, and also gives him an idea where the state of the franchise is, at that point. If he wants to re-sign or go the a contender in FA. On the flip side, if Pettersson continues to improve from his 100 points season. He’ll be a bargain for 5 more years.
  17. It’s odd that you think Horvat wasn’t a core player, considering he was drafted by us, played 8 seasons here and was named captain of the franchise; versus a guy who was traded here by the previous regime.
  18. Colour me surprised, Bichette actually has a personality. Dude seems to be too serious and focus, every time they show him in the dugout.
  19. “Lind and Gadjovich, two players who will be staples on our team, in the future.” - Everyone on CDC in 2017.
  20. If McDavid’s caphit isn’t the standard, then MacKinnon’s is.
  21. Kind of interesting, the Blue Jays selected SS Arjun Nimmala. He becomes the first player ever of Indian descent to get drafted.
  22. Why would they insure players, playing a regular season game? Klay Thompson never got insured when he missed the entire 2020 season. In matter of fact, he actually signed an extension with the Warriors. Same with KD. The NBA only insure a player if it’s a career ending injury. Seems like this is just a feeler from Silver to see if Vegas is a good city for an expansion team.
  23. The differences is these are just regular NBA games, that we’ve seen before. There’s nothing special about it, unlike the WBC, where we have country vs country. The WBC also covers insurance for their players. Whereas if someone were to get injured in this tournament, it’s not covered by the NBA.
  24. The WBC is actually something to play for. Players want to be there to represent their country, just like the Olympics. This is a nothing tournament, with no real value. Although, I actually read these games actually count towards the standings and there is a prize pool for the winning team. Nonetheless, I think this thing is just a marketing gimmick. They literally just re-align the divisions into groups, put together some random games in November-December, and called it a tournament, where the winner gets a consolation prize.
