Spread out where, exactly? The puck was on the other side of the ice. Should OEL leave the front of the net open on that play? Because to cover Kuch, he has to be waaay over and way up which leaves the front wide open. If anything, Myers should be over to the puck side a little further and OEL covers the front. The weak side winger should be in the low slot to cut that pass across off. In no way is that part of the defencemens coverage area. Kuch is at the top of the circle on that play and that is the fwds responsibility.

it's all going to depend on who the next canucks coach is and what he looks for in a player. He's on the fence at this point in his career, for sure...........he could be a Bear or he could be a Briesbois

And therein lies your flaw

And I have zero issues with either of those trades. They got A ppg player in Miller A top 2 dman in OEL 50 pt winger in Garland For three draft picks......I'd say most GM's would do that. Had JR moved Miller (and boeser), it would have been a massive win and we wouldn't care about OEL's cap hit because they'd have plenty of room. This "mess" lies at the feet of the current regime, not JB

Because BB needs an easy scapegoat and he's afraid of Miller. He scratched OEL because it was the path of least resistance. My guess is he went to OEL and said he needed to send a message and that he knew OEL could handle being that message.

To be clear, I had no issue with JB being fired, he earned it by hanging onto Green. I defend JB because people here just go right to the low hanging fruit and pile on rather than looking deeper at things and thinking critically. Every GM makes mistakes, makes bad trades, signs bad deals, but JB had a timeline and a plan for the young core focused on Petey and Hughes.........he had bad luck with the flat cap and injuries, there deserves to be a little defense there, imo Apart from that, this is a discussion board and I assume the intent is to discuss, share opinions and debate, no?

Can you pinpoint what is wrong with OEL's game?

I think when (if) they get a coach in here with some defensive structure you will be greatly surprised at how much better all the dmen look. This fwd group is atrocious defensively and hang their dmen out to dry every shift. This is a fwd issue, not dman issue

What pipeline of young players did or compromise? One player, that's it.

Yes, but when you get a chance to add a top 2--3 dman and a 40-50 pt guy at the cost of a first round pick who, at #9 , was a significant drop off from the first 8 picks, you take it every time. Because it's been a rough season, its easy to forget by that both garland and OEL were very good last season.
