  1. you can say that about 80% of the league, especially the young playeres.
  2. plenty.......as long as JB sees upward projection and the players are still on board, TG isn't going anywhere. You think there's actually going to be a "fire green" chant? Oy vey
  3. do you honestly believe TG gives a rats ass what fans think? His job is to win games and you don't win sitting in the penalty box........I guarantee you that's how he thinks
  4. he already is a damn good 3rd liner. had he stayed healthy he would have hit 20 goals playing with defensive players, getting overwhelmingly defensive zone starts and no pp time.
  5. goons never actually prevented much and during the height of the enforcer era, hockey was also probably at it's dirtiest.
  6. Doesn't sound like Green thought there was much wrong with the hit......Petey thought it was a dirty hit, but that's all I heard.
  7. many great points in that post, well done. When I grew up, we had hitting at all levels (though no one really did until pee wee) and before we were taught how to hit someone, we were taught how to safely take and absorb a hit, it was a part of our learning process. And though there were still injuries, I feel that we were far more prepared for physical hockey than even some Jr and pro players are now. Equipment is a huge part of the concussion issue (though diagnosis and understanding is obviously a big part too), as elbow and shoulder pads are so much harder than they used to be. Softer equipment deterred a lot of big hits because the person laying the hit felt the impact as much, or more than the person on the receiving end and if you hit someone, it was always in the back of your mind.
  8. and what would have prevented that play from happening?
  9. I know it's a deeply unpopular opinion here, but Boeser should never have put himself in that position. Two feet from the boards with your back to the opposition is a dangerous place to be, even if you're on the pp. You should always expect that you are going to get hit, at all times. The elimination of Matt Cooke kinds of players and the elimination of goons has given the skilled players a real false sense of security, imo, and they put themselves in dangerous situations. I believe that's a big reason why we see stars getting hurt so much.
  10. When was the last time you saw someone tomahawk chop another player like Ciccarelli did, or smoke a player on the side of the head like McSorley did? When was the last time you saw a Bertuzzi incident? This is the least violent the game has ever been, by a long shot.
  11. Honestly, there's not much you can do, it's just how the game is played, imo. Every action that can be taken is retro active, whether it's by the referees, the players or by the league. There's absolutely nothing that can be done to stop the initial action from taking place. When you dedicate yourself to being a hockey player, you accept that reality and risk the second you suit up and step on the ice. There's always going to be dirty player making dirty plays. It's a rough, violent game and, as a player, all you can do is be as aware as possible and avoid putting yourself in high risk situations as much as possible. I do think the league has been effective in getting a lot of the dirty play out of the game, as I've said it's never remotely been as clean and safe as it is now......however, there's also no fighting and barely any hitting, that's the trade off I guess. Though it was an illegal hit, I didn't find it to be all that dirty, it's a play that happens many many times over the course of a season. I would have been fine with 2 and ten, but that's not a major penalty to me and when (not if) a Canuck player makes a hit like that, I wouldn't want to see a major on it.
  12. with a name like "disgruntler", I'd take you to be more optimistic!
  13. yet if you're truly honest, the game has never been cleaner.
  14. I'm not arguing that all, just that going after Tierney wouldn't have accomplished anything. IN fact it likely would have had the opposite effect of rallying the Sens instead of leading to a PP goal and putting the game out of reach.
  15. You're acting like he wasn't penalized and that they didn't pay a price. He was and they did.
  16. So why do you think they should have sought revenge if no one cares because it's pre-season?
  17. And where in my quote did I do that? Of course illegal plays can be hockey plays. All kinds of plays happen in the normal course of a game. As far as your explanation, that's pretty much the definition of boarding......remind me again what he went to the box for?
  18. No it shouldn't have been and had a Canuck made that hit, got 5 and a game your be all over the "rigged NHL" angle and how everyone had it in for the Canucks. Rinse repeat
  19. Did I? I'm pretty sure I said it was a penalty all along, just that I was fine with 2 mins.
  20. He was punished, they scored on the pp. I don't care if it's pre-season, nothing makes you feel worse and deflates you more than being in the box and have the pp score.......especially on a play like that. I haven't seen one person say the hit was ok
  21. A hockey play is a play that just happens within the context and flow of a regular game. There was no pre-meditation or intention to injure. That hit was a hockey play, but I guess you know more than Travis Green
  22. How can a case be made when all you did was ask a question. What teams are you talking about?
