  1. I'm saying that having a pp that can score three times in a game is the pushback and a far more effective one than fighting. In Jr I was a player who played both sides of that line. I was the guy he coach tapped on the shoulder to dole out punishment and I was one who played a hard, physical game against the other teams best players. Not once did I ever hesitate because the other teams tough guy might come after me. It never even crossed my mind.
  2. Was that before or after they'd played an NHL game?
  3. That is never going to be a suspension. You certainly would be pissed if it were a Canuck getting a suspension for that. You be screaming 2 mins only from the rooftop.
  4. You don't really think players on those don't get cheap shots do you? That would be pretty naive. The Knights had 6.......6 fights all of last season. Boston was more active with 26.
  5. I'm not saying they shouldn't be a physical team and only be able to score on the pp.......not in any way. I love physical hockey and I hope the Canucks impose themselves on other teams as they develop. However, going out looking for revenge on players for throwing hits is a stupid way to approach the game, especially if you have a pp that can burn teams.
  6. You put the Petey, Boes and Bo of last night in that series and Calgary doesn't make it 6 games in that series.
  7. In time OJ could easily be. I never expected OJ to be in Van this year. JB obviously thought the way I do because they settled within $300k of where I said and dead on for term They have pushback, they scorched Ottawa on the PP last night. If they continue on that path, that's the biggest pushback you can make.
  8. I guess I don't consider getting to within three periods of winning it all "nothing". As I said a "physical" response does absolutely nothing to deter any player from doing it again, especially now when there are no true tough guys in the league.
  9. He got a penalty, Petey and Co made them pay by scoring on the pp. That's far, far, far more effective than sending someone out to fight.
  10. A physical response is no deterrent, at all......especially in the modern game. A PP that scores 3 or 4 times for every 10 pp's is going to put the brakes on opposing teams much quicker than jumping someone and not only taking your team off the pp, but likely getting you an instigator on top of that. If it's a meaningless game for the pp to settle that score in, how is it a meaningful gesture to fight? If Petey and Co are punishing teams on the PP in the pre-season, I guarantee you other teams are noticing
  11. I think that was stuck in my reply box. I was replying to someone else's post, or meant to
  12. Such dramatics........the hit on Fantenburg was way worse.
  13. Again, you want them to fight every time there's a hit?
  14. Of course I am. It was a penalty, it was called.
  15. 2 mins, max, maybe an extra 10. All the conspiracy nuts here would go ape sh!t if a Canuck did that and got more than 2mins. As far as the injury, Boeser should never had his back exposed, 2 feet from the boards on that play. Never.
  16. Push back for what? You want them to fight every time a player gets hit?
  17. The only reason I "ragged" on Boeser was salary related. Nothing more, nothing less. JB obviously thought the same way I did
  18. That was a two min penalty, but that's about it. I wouldn't want a Canuck penalized more than two mins for that. Players should know better than to stand with their back exposed two feet from the boards.
  19. I like Jake and I hope he breaks out. At the same time, if he hovers around where he is, he will be very affordable for the next 4 years and keeps the cap manageable for JB while providing solid support for the top 6.
  20. ah, Manny, what could have been. One of my favourite bottom 6 players of all time, no doubt. I loved Tom Wilson as a bottom 6 player before he broke out too.
  21. early in his career, he was one of the best, agreed.
  22. tough to determine for sure. I was just curious where jakes 15 goals and almost 18 gpg pace put him in that company. I get he can look lazy at times, but he also sits on the bench for long periods and it's not easy for big guys to get their mojo going. Yet, he still produces more than most 3rd line players and he's had no decent offensive players to play with. People who want to vilify him, should be thrilled with a possible 20 goal guy in the bottom 6 who is also one of the better takeaway players in the league.
  23. James Neal, in his prime, was not a bottom 6 player.
