  1. Virtanen might be fighting for ice time, but he is not fighting for a job. He will jump around in the top 9 throughout the season
  2. Because he's a work in progress defensively and pretty sure they want him to develop as a top 6 C
  3. he has worked hard, for sure and he's probably the hardest worker in camp. However, he's not going to replace Sutter at 3C
  4. 3 against, 2 for in the first period. He was on the ice fr every goal in the first
  5. Ben Hutton was not a long term player for this team and there was something off putting about his personality and I'm betting that played a part in the decision. He clearly was not part of the core group of guys
  6. I don't think being in the range of 20 goals as a 22 year old is anything to be frustrated about
  7. I'm not one, at all, for conspiracy theories, but it almost feels like they're holding Jake back so they can get a cheap contract out of him on his next deal. Last season, he was on pace for 18 over 82 games, getting almost exclusively dzone starts with linemates who had very limited offensive capability. He got almost no pp time, no pk time when he has a skill set for both sets of special teams. Had he got top 6 mins, with ozone starts and pp time, he likely would have been on a 25ish pace. He's done pretty much everything they've asked of him, paid his dues and guys like Goldy and Leivo are gifted top 6 mins and pp time while he languishes away in the bottom 6. It's probably a rationalization because I like TG, but if Jake busted out, there's another big contract they'd have to fit into an already tight structure. If they keep him bridled until his next deal, it makes him much more affordable
  8. They had to qualify him around $4m I think, that's why they let him go
  9. I don't find sloppy mistake laden games entertaining
  10. I agree, goaltending was a big part of that, but he still needs a lot of developing, defensively before he's ready to be a legit NHL cman
  11. Doubtful, JB made it clear on the offseason that he was going to start in Utica
  12. He played well offensively, but I lost track of how many goals against he was on the ice for, at least two of them directly tied to.him. let him be the top dog in Utica and develop his defensive game.
  13. 18 goal pace last year wasnt a step? People need to chill on Virtanen, his progress has been steady
  14. On the whole I agree, it's been a lower energy game, but goaltending has been the difference
  15. I wouldn't say 30 shots is a no show. If it's Marky or thatch this is probably a tie game, or the nucks might be up one.
