  1. Regardless, Mathews, an RFA, should never have gotten such a ridiculous contract.
  2. If his injuries persist or his skating limits his development, he is un-tradeable with that deal. To me, Boeser is still not a sure thing
  3. Someone in another thread used Connor and a 1st for BB and Tanev. I'd do that deal
  4. 2-3 years, $5.5m per. He has zero leverage and has had 2 partial good years behind him and I think that's a fair "show me" contract. Bottom line is he is an RFA with absolutely no leverage and a cpl 50+ point seasons. He's an emerging star, but he's still got a lot to prove to get to that kind of earning power.
  5. if he doesn't want to re-sign at a team friendly price, then they may have no choice and it's not like they'd be giving him away, he'd bring a huge return.
  6. If that were true it'd be done and he'd be at camp. If he's asking that, it's not impossible that's he's played his last game in Van
  7. a 2-3 year deal at Horvat $ is fair for all involved, imo.
  8. the only good point he ever makes is the one at the top of his head.
  9. If I am JB, Horvat is the standard and he's the best player on the team, atm. Once Petey is due, his contract will set the standard because he will likely be the most valuable player to the team at that point. You don't want BB to be the standard, imo, the same way that AM shouldn't have been the standard for the Leafs.
  10. just because one or two GM's do it, doesn't mean the rest have to follow suit........RFA's have no bargaining power and GM's just have to stand firm. Dubas messed up with AM and Nylander and now his team is paying the price and they'll be losing their window very shortly and the whole "Shanaplan" will have to start anew. What I'm seeing from the BB situation is the JB isn't that dumb and knows to keep the team competitive, longer term, he needs to keep his RFA's under control for as long as possible.
  11. cap management isn't the issue outside of having a cp structure for RFA's with no leverage. Going out and investing in high quality bottom 6 veteran players was the smartest thing he could have done, those are the players that you win Cups with. BB is the one completely out to lunch in this situation. Know your position on the team and understand that if you put in the time as an RFA, making good money, you will cash in when you become UFA..........that's how it works.
  12. I think it's pretty clear, by now, that JB doesn't think BB is worth close to that much, or has the leverage to demand close to that much otherwise a deal would have been done long ago.
  13. Agents, obviously, play a big part, but ultimately the players are the ones who make the final call. I think agents may lead them to believe they have more leverage than they do. Regarding Marner, he's one who does deserve big money, but it should still be in the $8mish range........dumbass blew this one big time. The sad part is, one of my work colleagues and huge leaves fan truly thinks dumbass is a top GM in the league.
  14. Because Dumbass paid the 4th best player on his team a ridiculous salary that became the standard by which the 3 better players on the team will expect to exceed. Marner looks at AM's value to the team, compares his own value to the team, looks at AM's contract and says " if Mathews is getting that contract, then my contract should be more because I am more valuable to the team".
  15. If Boes gets $7m, Horvat will be asking at least $8.5-9m on his next deal, likely higher.
  16. Marner and Tavares take a lot of the defensive attention away from Mathews.
  17. I can't blame all these RFA's, but the GM's really need to stand their ground, imo, as most of them have little to no leverage. Guys like Marner (Dumbass already set the standard with AM's contract) and Aho have a stronger case because they're the best players on their team, but the rest of the GM's should stand their ground.
