  1. there you go, he's almost surely on the roster in some capacity.
  2. I don't think so, I don't think GM's look at comparables for RFA players as much as people think. Of course, agents will, but ultimately, RFA's don't have a lot of leverage, it's just a matter of how much backbonme a GM has. Right now, the two overpaying GM's are both young and inexperienced and are going to get themselves into hot water soon enough. JB is, I hope, smarter than that.
  3. BB doesn't want a contract that long, apparently. I wouldn't be paying Keller close to that much and I don't think the contracts given out by two young, inexperienced GM's should set the standard
  4. GM's set their own standard, imo. Players can use other players around the league, but that applies more to UFA than RFA, who have very little leverage. I would expect that JB has a salary structure for the next 5 years that has logical progressions in salary for RFA's........I expect he sticks to that, rather than use other GM's salary concessions as his yard stick.
  5. Actually, I've been consistent in my "narrative" through this discussion. All the players you mentioned are franchise/generational players, Boeser isn't close to that. That's Petey. I think $5.5m is very fair for a 26 goal player coming off his ELC, having yet to play a full season, with two choices........sign it sit out. $5.5 on a short bridge deal is hardly low balling and it gives Boeser a cpl years to progress and prove he truly belongs in that upper tier of players If Boeser was an established 35 goal/75 point scorer, then he'd be worth closer to what hes asking. He may very well grow into that, but he's not currently there. So if Nylander was a Canuck, you'd have been good with him getting $6m per? I find that very difficult to believe.
  6. For a 22 year old RFA with no bargaining power who has yet to play a full season or hit 30 goals? I absolutely do.
  7. You think Boeser is in a category with McD, Kane etc? Would you say Nylander is overpaid? And RNH is a good two way player.
  8. He played pretty well for Sweden at the Worlds, he obviously still has something in the tank. It'll be interesting to watch how it unfolds........it's one of the things I'm most interested in this pre-season.
  9. I think $5.5 on a 2-3 year deal is fair for all. If Brock steps up and improves and stays healthy, he'll have earned a big pay day and the Canucks will have a blossoming superstar winger in their ranks.
  10. And I have no issue with his offense, at all. I love watching him put up points. But, it's only one of three zones........highly paid elite players dominate in all three zones. I'm not saying BB won't grow into that, but he's not that right now and he shouldn't be paid like he is.
  11. Of course I will, when it's their turn to negotiate a new deal. I've said, all along, that Petey will get a big deal and I'm good with that.
  12. The saying "defense wins championships" exists for a reason. It can absolutely be taught and Boes can absolutely learn it. When he does and proves he can be an elite scorer and a well above avg defensive player, then he's worth the kind of money he thinks he is
  13. best outcome at this point is he comes in, wins a spot and is a contributing member of the team
  14. One dimensional meaning he's great offensively, avg or below in other areas of the game
  15. I say tomato, you say tomahto. I'm just stating what I think he's worth. I love having him in the team, he's a great goal scorer but I just don't find him that good in the rest of the game.......which are equally important. To me $5-5.5m on a 2-3 year "earn a big payday" deal is fair for a guy who brings what he does and has no negotiating power. It works for both sides. I never said he was easily replaceable, just more easily replaceable than some want to admit, there's a big difference between the two statements.
  16. if he's asking $6.5-7, I'd be looking to see what I could get for him, if it were me. That said, I don't think JB will
  17. disagree.........he may be worth $6.5 in the duration of the contract, but unless he improves other areas of his game, he shoud be happy with a short, bridge deal around $5.5 and show he can take the step up to next pay grade.
  18. Brock doesn't have much leverage, at all. He's more replaceable than most want to admit.
  19. No one is saying screw him over, but he should come in around $5.5, 5.75 tops. That is more than fair for a 26 goal scorer who hasn't yet played a full season and is avg to below avg in his own end. Then it sets the standard going forward. If he had arbitration rights or could sign an offer sheet then $6-6.5 is more acceptable.
  20. Brock isn't a free agent, he doesnt have arbitration rights and he can't sign an offer sheet. He has no leverage.
  21. It's an overpayment for a player with absolutely no bargaining power, at all. He can sign what JB offers or not play hockey, those are his options.
  22. Then don't bitch when JB has to dismantle the team in 3-4 years. And Petey will likely be worth it, Brock isn't.
