  1. Disagree, that's poor management, imo. Good managers keep one foot in the future, imo.
  2. I can understand why they did it, but that doesn't mean I think it was smart or forward thinking.
  3. I understand that, for sure, and it was a magical time, but I don't agree with all this "Gilman was a cap god" crap.
  4. I get that an agent's job is to get the max for their client, but that approach takes away from what is so great about hockey..........the team. Boes' agent might be giving him good advice for the benefit of Brock, but it's certainly not taking his team and teammates into account and for that I lose respect for BB and other young, RFA players who hold out the way they have this summer. To me, this RFA situation this summer feels very close to collusion.
  5. I would argue that Gilman totally screwed this organization, along with MG with the deals they gave out to that team. Seems to me like he never once considered the long term implications of his "genius".
  6. You can't retroactively go back and judge a contract that was signed at market value at the time. Whatever happened after the contract is signed is irrelevant to your statement on the management of the cap.
  7. Marner can sign offer sheets, Boeser has neither arbitration rights, nor can he sign an offer sheet. His only option is to holdout on his team.
  8. I'm not sure why people keep using Marner as the bar for Boeser........not all RFAs are equal, Marner has some leverage, Boeser does not
  9. Loui's deal was fair market value at the time
  10. Baer is good defensively and can easily slide to the third line.
  11. To be fair, he's proven that in almost every season since being drafted
  12. "A healthy season will be good for his development" That's some serious journalist chops there
  13. The biggest takeaway, for me, is that we clearly have different definitions of "article".
  14. Absolutely, but he shouldn't get that kind of payday until he proves that he can.
  15. I don't see anyone saying those parts of his game are bad, just in the avg range.
  16. What does he get for that tax difference? World class education for his kids, free health care etc etc.
  17. It would likely he can adding to that. Both players are significantly better than BB.........VT, for sure.
  18. when I think "freak",I think more things like injuries from blocked shots, going nto the boards the wrong way etc, but I get your point. The wrist is the concern for me, for sure.
  19. I'm not on the "injury prone" train, but the fact is he's yet to play a full season. Almost all of Tanev's injuries are of the "freak" nature, but the still keep happening and the net effect is the same.
  20. The key to that statement? UFA.......Brock is an RFA and doesn't even have arbitration rights.......this is second contract and if you give him $7m, where does he go with contract #3, or #4? It's a dangerous, unnecessary precedent for JB to set.........he has all the leverage.
  21. Agreed, it's him or Baer, but not both.
  22. That stuck out to me too. No team is going to turn a blind eye to defensive deficiencies like he shows, no matter how many goals he scores. Truthfully, I don't think it's even about the defensive side of it for him. It's about consistency.........he needs to find consistency in his game if he wants to be an NHL player.
  23. I'm not discounting that in any way. Kessel had been one of the most prolific, consistent scorers in the last 15 years, I'd be thrilled if BB follows that model. I just think a modest bridge deal is the best for all involved.
  24. Or he settles in around 30-35 and is one dimensional, like kessel, or his injuries are recurring and his massive contract is a boat anchor. He could easily go either way
  25. If he racks up 40 goals and costs too much, his value as a trade chip would be huge. A show me more contract is all he's earned so far.
