[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
stawns replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Though he's pretty solid, defensively. Hitting is pretty much gone in the NHL anyway. -
Aren't his CHL rights owned by Barrie?
-
He won't be an offensive juggernaut, but I think he's a pretty sure thing top 6 fwd who plays in all situations. Very similar to Bo, imo.
-
Agreed, that's where I see him for production level too........though it depends who he plays with. However, like Jake and Bo, his impact will be heavy in other areas of the game too. He's going to be a pretty complete player I think.

Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser

Horvat and Petey are who they are building around......Hughes will probably be the third piece of that puzzle. They are, imo, untouchable. -

Same way it closes everyone else's window who overpays RFA players with zero bargaining power. You drop 40-50% of you cap on 3-4 players and you have to start finding support players in the bargain bin. You win Cups because you can afford to go out and find solid veteran support and that costs money. If you pay Boes, the lowest rung on their star ladder, that kind of money, you'd better win in the next 3-4 years or you become Edmonton, Toronto, Buffalo Are there exceptions like Pit? Of course, but Vancouver doesn't have a generational talent like Sid. -
[Rumor] Boeser Camp Eyeing 4 Year Deal Worth $28M
stawns replied to buddyguy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It's about setting the low bar at an inflated number well over a million of what he's earned........that sets the bar for the rest of the contracts and sends the message that you don't have to earn anything, we'll overpay based on what you "might" do. Boes is not a 30 goal scorer and he actually regressed last season over his first (for goals). We can all speculate about the reasons, but the fact is, he didn't score as much as his rookie season despite playing more games. He needs a reasonable bridge contract to prove he can become an elite scorer. If he steps up his game and earns it, awrsome. -
Benning trying to get to "common ground" with Boeser

It's a discussion about contracts and boesers contract sets the table for the next four big ones (petey, Hughes Bo and bows again). Comparing them is how agents and management will determine the dollar amounts. If Boesers demands are well beyond where he is as a player, then I'm open to a move where they likely get a first and top 4 dman back, which then allows you to move a dman for a Boeser replacement. If he wants $7m now, then one of the big three will have to go in the next 2-3 years anyway, as being that top heavy closes the window to win. -

It's relevant to the discussion don't you think? This contract is going to be the standard that Petey, Hughes and Bo are going to use as the starter for their next contracts, and they aren't going to be cheap if Boes gets $7m. He's the low man on that totem pole, imo, and a $7m for him means $10-11m for Petey (at least), probably $7-9m for Hughes and I'll bet Bo comes in around $8-10m.......to say nothing of a third contract for BB if he gets a bridge contract.......that'll be up around $9m (at least). To me, that's not sustainable and the window would currently be about 4 years from closing on this group of players. -

Exactly, it's got more to do with the precedent being set and the future track of the teams cap in the next 5-7 years than it does about Boeser, the player........whom I love having in Vancouver. You overpay Boeser now and Petey is, for sure, double digits in two years and Hughes could very well be looking at well north of $7m too. No one wants to be TO or Edmonton with this group. -

Who does Green put out with the game on tye line to protect the lead? Who does Green put out when they need a goal late in the game? Which player is on both those lists? -

I think I just have a deeper understanding of the game than you do. Most of a teams game is played in the defensive zone and neutral zone, Petey isn't close to comparable to Bo. I like Petey more than Bo, but Bo is the more valuable player at this point. -

isn't that what you're talking about here? Hypothetically, he'll stay healthy, but factually, he hasn't been able to thus far. -
I guess it depends on how one defines skill.......he clearly doesn't have the silky smooth skill of a Petey or the twins, but he's certainly able to make great plays using the tools he has in his box. I see him being very similar to Bo and Jake..........guys you notice every shift, even if they don't score.

I'm saying if you pay Boeser big bucks based on projections, shouldn't that apply to all their players? Jake scored 15, but was on an 82 game pace for close to 20..........can you imagine the uproar if he got a contract based on that projection, rather than the 15 he actually scored? People are calling to pay Boeser like a 35-40 goal scorer because that's what his projections indicate........as opposed to the 26 and 29 he actually did score. -

Players used to get rewarded for what you've done......now players (re agents) want to be paid for what they might do. -

Depends on other players on the team. There's a lot more to the game than scoring. A player, like Bo, who is an impact player in all three zones is a far more complete player than a player who impacts the game in one zone, thus he is a better player. Bo is roughly equal to Petey on offense, with Petey having a slight edge, mostly due to an overwhelming edge of offensive zone starts compared to Bo. Bo put up almost as many points getting primarily defensive zone starts due to Sutter's injury. Defensively, it's not even close......Bo can not only put up points, he plays against the other teams best offensive players and shuts them down while also putting up points. Petey has good defensive instincts, he's just not a mature player like Bo. His defensive game has potential once he matures and grows, physically. Bo is also far superior in the dot and that's a big factor in how effective a player is. When Bo is on the ice, more often than not, Vancouver has the puck off a draw. Petey was better than I expected, but still well below avg. Again, he's a smart, driven guy.......his faceoffs will improve as he gets older, stronger and wiser. Right now, Bo is the best overall player on the team, by a significant margin, but Petey has the intelligence and drive to be better. Right now, when Petey isn't scoring, he can disappear for stretches, whereas Bo still impacts the game, significantly, when he's not scoring. -

Boeser isn't in the same tier as Bo, sorry. People need to stop looking at points as the metric. Bo is the best overall player on the team, followed by Petey.........I'd put Boeser below them both, but above Baer. He, simply, has no impact on a game beyond offense. -

No argument here, just saying it's got nothing to do with nationality.....canadians are just as greedy and selfish, if not more. -

I don't think he's injury prone, but he's yet to complete a full season, or even 70 games. That is fact and it should factor into negotiations
