  1. It’s not really gaslighting because they’re oblivious that they do it. It’s just that they have a really childish mentality. They’re that guy who insults people all the time but the moment someone fires back he loses it. They burst in the room, insult you and demand you kiss their ass, but the moment you say ‘no’ they cry about how hard done by they are because they live in a weird bubble/cult that tells them the Leafs are the centre of the universe and anyone who doesn’t pay fealty is some sort of maliciously obsessed hater. And before people say “Oh that’s not all Leafs fans blah blah etc” I know and I don’t care anymore. I used to take a more fair, nuanced approach to it but after years and years of trying to get along and being told the Canucks have the worst fanbase in sports and that the rioters and the lunatic fringe on twitter are emblematic of the entire fanbase I’ve taken it to heart and am now treating every fanbase with the same criteria.
  2. So your solution is to just keep shooting for mediocrity and hoping the stars align instead of trying to build a consistent competitor.
  3. Damn you haven't met many Leafs fans have you? They'll go out of their way to shit on the Canucks just like we do them. I also hate this idea that people are "ObSeSsED" with the Leafs because we laugh at them when they lose. It really highlights the entitled, world-revolved-around-me mentality of a Leafs fan. The laffs get shoved down your throat all day, but the moment you laugh when something bad happens, its because you're obsessed. Complete obliviousness. When we laugh at the Oilers or Flames, are we "obsessed"? No, we're laughing at a rival like any fan does.
  4. Well if we're fantasizing about unlikely scenarios, I'd rather we move OEL and our first for a player who doesn't double flamingo and has more than one year left.
  5. Unfortunately that is the reality of the cap mess the Canucks have found themselves in. For all the talk of shedding money, this management group has done nothing but add it. Ehh I've heard mixed reports on it. A lot of people say outside the top 4 prospects who are franchise level players, the rest of the draft looks pretty average. At the end of the day, the draft is a crapshoot like any other, and we won't know until ~5 years from now. I'm not advocating they trade the pick but what is your solution to "easily" fix the team's cap situation? They've also decided to push all their chips in towards making the playoffs like next season, which is extra difficult if you're returning with the same lineup. In theory yes. The teams around us will be getting better as well though and you cannot account for injuries. We could. We also could end up just like the Islanders or Winnipeg, and I think that's far more likely than us getting hot and going on a run. There's a reason what the Panthers are doing is gaining so much attention, it's because its unprecedented. People seem to forget the Panthers won the President's Trophy last year, and made the playoffs the previous 3 years as well. They're a good team that underperformed during the regular season, not some plucky underdog that scratched and clawed their way in after playing bigger than the sum of their parts. I really hate this mentality that we should "just try to make it in and anything can happen". "Anything" is far, far more likely to mean a first round exit, or maybe winning a round before bouncing out than it is a cup run to the final. The goal should be to build a long term, cup competitive team.
  6. If Bedard goes through his entire career while never playing for the Canucks, then gets a media job after he retires and starts using the term "we" when referring to the team and throwing hissyfits, yes I think it would be weird and "cringe" as the youths say. There's a difference between being a bit of a homer for your former club, like say Bieksa, and being a completely mask-off deranged cheerleader who thinks he's on a team he never played for.
  7. Biznasty's unfathomable Leafboner really surprised me. It's honestly kind of sad how much he simped for a team he never played for. Even going as far as to use the term "we" when referring to them. Maybe he started getting those Leafs media cheques and is too stupid to realize it's supposed to be under the radar.
  8. I think he is. I would be more surprised if he is unemployed next season than if he isn't.
  9. Will that be before or after the half hour piece on where Matthews and Marner ate brunch the prior day?
  10. Oh god Laffs fans are going to be crying incessantly about this forever now just like Cowtown does about 04, aren't they?
  11. In a crooked little town, they were lost and never found Fallen Leaves Fallen Leaves Fallen Leaves on the ground
  12. 18 year old Sam Bennett has become to Leafs fans what Brad Marchand is to the Canucks fanbase. They are absolutely losing their noodle.
  13. And the player we'll have to pay to move off of once again down the line when we're deeper in cap hell.
  14. Except scheduling yourself on the same day as those massive events is making yourself the last option. Screeching Steve showing his insight again.
  15. My favourite was all the Leafs fans I saw crying about the scheduling working around the Panthers. The obliviousness of it.
  16. We don't know that. Allvin and this hockey ops department have conducted one draft, we really don't have anything to base this off. Also, I don't like the Caufield comparisons. Caufield is like 5'6. Benson is 5'10. That's slightly undersized for the NHL, but the average height of a North American male and the same height as Bedard, Kane, Hughes, and several others. He doesn't really play "small" by pretty much every scouting report either. His biggest concern will be adding weight to his frame, but if he is there at 11 they should run to the podium.
  17. The fall here is Benson. He and Smith are the next tier after the big 4 in this draft. If he is available and the Canucks take Sandin-Pellikka over him, that is a horrific reach. ASP's stock is rising due to the position he plays and his shot, not his projections.
  18. Yes Alf, just like the Leafs are going to sweep the Panthers.
