The jury is still out on that.

Is anyone going to flounce from hockey because of this?

Well you have more integrity than Blackhawks or Maple Leafs fans. I respect you for it. -
I was referencing OEL but we'll see.

It will be something like our 1st + Myers and Beauvillier for some even worse albatross like Jones or Huberdeau in hopes of a bounce back. Time is a flat circle afterall.

2024's likely No. 1 overall NHL draft pick wants to be a Canuck
McBackup replied to Canuck You's topic in Canucks Talk
Has anyone mentioned that Macklin's brother, Aiden, is a defenseman eligible for this year's draft? He's committed to play for Boston University next year with his brother. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/635383/aiden-celebrini He isn't super highly touted like his brother, but I wouldn't at all be disappointed if the Canucks took a flyer on a local defenseman like him in the later rounds. -
Kind of. BPA is subjective from team to team, they'll have different rankings. But your team should have a consolidated rankings going into the draft. if you have player X ahead of Y, and take player Y because he fills a positional need, that's a mistake. In the first round at least. Go hog wild with your later picks as they're much more likely to be shots in the dark, but you should have your first ~50 or so in a pretty firm order that you really don't deviate from except for exceptional circumstances.

Yeah I wasn't making a pejorative comment at you or anything. I just realized in the middle of typing that that I was ragging on people I've never met like some tabloid queen snarking about the Kardashians and didn't want to be that guy. It is definitely a trend in hockey circles but I think it has more to do with the fake blondes being in the circles they run in more than anything else. Onto the house though. Its a nice building but I'm not really a fan of the decor.

Not really. He isn't even a Canucks fan, he just posts here. He cheers for every other Canadian team, and has admitted once he moves back to Edmonton he's going to abandon the Canucks and start cheering for the Oilers instead. In this very thread he talks about how he's "flounced" before and is going to do it again. He shouldn't be taken as emblematic for a fanbase any more than Snoop Dogg should. -
This is what I meant by the speculation being impossible because we have no idea who will be available for us. I would not be surprised whatsoever if both Reinbacher and ASP are gone by 11, or if they're both there. Once we get past Fantilli and Carlsson, the questions start. Michkov should be the next pick, but there are enough factors working against him that he could start to slip. After that the consensus seems to be Moore and Benson, but those guys could move a little. After they're off the board its completely wide open. The order is a crapshoot and its anyone's guess.

I don't know seems pretty fitting. Connor seems to have the personality of a burlap sack so it's not surprising his partner is an incredibly generic blonde girl. They could both be lovely, fascinating people though I've never met them so it's kind of nasty for me to judge them like that. Also this video is about their house. It's definitely not my taste but I'd take it over my broom closet in Vancouver (if it wasn't in Edmonton lol).

The sense I get is that he's a good prospect but taking him at 11 would be reaching for position rather than BPA.
-
I am all for taking swings on D with our later picks. But at 11th overall you really do need to take the player you think is the BPA. If that's a defenseman, awesome. But I would hate to see some centre the Canucks have 7th on their board be passed up for a defenseman they have ranked at 16th just because that defenseman is the highest rated available at his position.
-
This is such a crapshoot. Its pretty much impossible to speculate who the Canucks will pick because after the first 5/6 picks the rankings are all over the place and we have no idea who will be available.

Not to be pedantic but every city is a great city if you have money. You hear a lot of fans from various fanbases badmouthing other cities, but if you've got lots of money you'll find a pretty nice spot wherever you are. What makes a city great depends more on what you want out of where you call home than anything. Its why I always thought the Calgary fans badmouthing Columbus after Johnny left as if Cowtown was some marquee destination was so amusing.

What bothers me is not that the Canucks didn't "tank". It's that they absolutely blew their transmission trying to win meaningless games. I didn't want them to trade everyone out for picks or play Martin 50 games in a row. But there was no need to start Demko in 16 of the 22 final games after the season was lost. There was no reason to be playing Quinn 30 minutes a night against teams that already decided to phone it in. There was no need to put your prized new D man you just spent a significant amount of future assets on out there for four meaningless games when he clearly needed to take time to fully recover from his injury. Etc, etc etc. I didn't expect to get Bedard, but the difference between 11th overall and 6th or 7th overall is massive. "But its good in the long run, they got character building wins" Don't care. Heard it before, hasn't happened. I could just as easily make the argument you're hurting them in the long run by exposing your star players to excessive meaningless minutes that can lead to injuries. It's simply shortsighted. I experienced the Jim Benning "we live day-by-day" era. I would like our sights set a little higher.

I think there is an important distinction to be made between deliberately throwing games and not going balls to the wall to win meaningless ones. They are not the same.

"Wild for a team who had the third lowest capacity % this season." Its not wild at all, it was exactly like this before they got Kane and Toews too. Chicago doesn't give two shits about hockey unless they're spoonfed superstars and cups.

I never said it didn't. Yes and? Are you even aware of what you're responding to? No, you definitely have trouble with reading comprehension.
