  1. I totally get why even Canadian players want to play down south. I would hate that too. I think you need to have the right kind of personality to play up here.
  2. I don’t think so. Your endorsement opportunities are definitely going to be higher in Canada where people actually know who you are. Weather is different, it’s subjective. Everybody has different taste. I actually like Vancouver’s weather but would find somewhere with “great” weather like Florida awful. Overall I’d say the states are definitely a more appealing place to play though for most American players. Kesler is a bad example though and isn’t comparable to Gaudreau. He didn’t bull$&!# the Canucks about how he wanted to sign before walking away at the 11th hour after our best season in decades. He saw the writing on the wall that the Canucks competitive window was over and forced his way out. Crappy thing to do, but that had everything to do with winning and not really anything with living in Van.
  3. This is the only part that’s particularly egregious. You played here for a decade and never noticed Vancouver is pretty well known as a port city? Did you somehow miss the angry somersaulting whale you wore on your chest every day?
  4. I remember all the pundits were screeching for the Canucks to draft this guy in the first round during the Boeser year because he’s a BC boy and grew up a Canucks fan. A good example of why people tend to overhype local players.
  5. Another Canuck I was wrong about: OEL. I thought this was going to be a disaster, that he was going to be soft and a massive defensive liability and he'd reached a point in his career where the offence couldn't make up for it. Granted, he is definitely still overpaid, but if we remove the contract from the equation, I was extremely pleased with how reliable and gritty OEL played here. Same goes for Myers as well. He's overpaid, but I definitely like having the chaos giraffe on our defense, and if people ignore the cap hit they wouldn't be so ready to run him out of town. And given some of the premiums defensemen have been signing for lately, I don't think Myers contract will look nearly as bad soon.
  6. Hogs is the kind of player I love to watch. I'll always have a soft spot for undersized players full of piss and vinegar. The problem is, I think having Garland on the team makes him redundant, as Garland is essentially peaked Hoglander.
  7. Strange he left then, he should have fit in perfectly there. That organization hasn’t known class since Iggy left.
  8. The funniest part about the Calgary meltdown is how much shade they're throwing at the poor city of Columbus. Granted, I've never been to Columbus, but they're acting like Gaudreau chose to go to Mordor. It's not like Calgary is some preeminent destination city. Glass houses and all that.
  9. To give the devil their due, it's perfectly understandable why Flames fans are pissed. Gaudreau blew smoke up their ass the entire time about staying despite knowing full well he wasn't going to. He finally alerts them at the 11th hour, handcuffing their ability to plan for the future, and then ends up taking a paycut to sign nearly 800km away from "home" anyway. I'm all for it as watching Flames fans suffer is almost as good as watching hockey, but their ire is pretty justified.
  10. If the Flames had two top 5 players on their team they’d be scary. There’s a hot take.
  11. Vintage is the real MVP because there is no way he isn’t a Canucks/league employee risking it all to bring us the hot juicy gossip.
  12. 68 mil would probably do it for me. It’s hard to imagine it being that much worse than Calgary.
  13. Its crazy how Vegas has gone from the island of misfit toys to ruthlessly throwing away anyone so they can have the latest shiny object. Can’t wait until players get wise and stop going there.
  14. We should sign him just so he doesn’t have to live with the shame of playing his last NHL game with Calgary.
  15. According to the media every player in the history of the game is a closet Leafs fan. Rumour has it Peyton Manning and Derek Jeter are looking to come out of retirement just to play for the Laffs.
  16. Seems like a pretty risky signing. I hope this works out. At the very least this will give Podz and Kuzmenko some more Russians to hang around.
