Pettersson uncertain about future with Canucks ( article)
McBackup replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
This interview is definitely getting blown out of proportion, but its not a complete nothing comment either. Petey has indicated he wants to stay in Van (for now) but if the team isn't winning he's ready to go sign with a contender. Otherwise he would have said "I want to win in Vancouver" or something along those lines, rather than "I don't know where I'll be when I have negotiating rights with more than one team." That puts the onus on management to make the team good, but I'm also not getting the sense Pettersson has any particular attachment to staying in Vancouver. He's been in the league 3 years and after one disastrous aberration of a season he's expressed that he's willing to go elsewhere for a "chance to win". I'm getting strong Kesler vibes here. I suspect if Pettersson were a UFA rather than an RFA he'd be singing a different tune. It reminds me of the current trend in the NBA with players hopping from team to team to hoping to catch on to success rather than attempt to build something. -
I don't see why we'd need to put 11 back in circulation. There are 99 numbers to pick from, minus the ones retired or currently in use. Thats a lot of options. We already brought it back for an "all-time great" (eyeroll), and look at how that went. I don't see the point in bringing it back for a third line centre who has no known attachment to the number.

[Discussion] Escalating market price for defencemen (Quinn Hughes)
McBackup replied to grandmaster's topic in Canucks Talk
Yes. Is he a defensive stalwart? No. But he isn't the worst defensive D-man in the game like people are making him out to be. He wasn't horrible defensively his rookie year. He is young and still developing, and its amazing to me how many people are willing to throw him (and Pettersson) to the wolves after the disaster that was last season and now that we need to pay them. -
[DEBATE] Which #14 in their prime are you taking?
McBackup replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I'm taking Nilsson. I know he was a Flame and his NHL career wasn't particularly long, but he seems to be historically underrated. -
Thank you. Every one (rightfully) rags on Benning and Canucks management, but they act everyone else is a model franchise, when in reality all the other Canadian teams are their own dumpster fires in their own special ways.

Their management has shown they're absolutely cutthroat. Its strange to me that Vegas built their identity on being the island of misfit toys, the cast-offs etc that were able to rally together and become a good team. They all showed they absolutely loved being in Vegas as well. Then the team turned around and started sacrificing players in order to have whatever the shiniest new toy on the market was. Its a complete reversal of the team's original identity, and I think the players are going to start noticing that there isn't really much loyalty in Vegas.

The Colwood crawl is as bad if not worse than anything Vancouver has to offer.

Bo Horvat and his future [agent on don and dahli]
McBackup replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
I have to wonder how bad things got last year with how unhappy the players are. Edler for the longest time wouldn't even consider waiving his no trade clause for a playoff team at the deadline, now suddenly he wants to compete? It really makes you wonder what went on behind the scenes. -

Forsberg, not close. -
[Trade] Canucks Trade for Dickinson from DAL for a 3rd.

Podkolzin has yet to play an NHL game. Let's not talk about anything being obvious or anybody getting ahead of themselves. -
The logo and jersey are great. The name is pretty standard for a farm club. Its the fact that they couldn't even get it revealed properly when they were using an existing name and logo.

God this was amateurly done.

Something to do with Lumberjacks, Woodsmen, Trappers, etc. Fits BC, fits the parent club tie-in, etc.

Hard not to pick Dionne here. -
[DEBATE] Which #10 in their prime are you taking?

Honestly this is largely contextual. For example, do I already have a first line centre? That definitely impacts my choice substantially. In a vacuum however I'm taking Bure. Because all else being equal Bure was the most exciting player to watch on that list. -
The thing I don't understand is the reaction. Don't get me wrong, what happened was absolutely horrific. But I graduated from high school 10 years ago and even back then they stressed in our social studies courses how horrible the residential school system was. When the news broke about the graves being found, I was disgusted, but I wasn't surprised. Yet the shock and outcry from so many people, including my peers who are the same age as me or younger and thus should have theoretically received the exact same educational syllabus, really came out of left field for me. Why was this a surprise? Its like (to avoid invoking Godwin's law again in this thread) if a bunch of mass graves were discovered outside a former soviet gulag. Horrific, absolutely. But surprising? You'd have to deliberately have your head in the sand to be surprised.
