  1. Obviously it depends on what is being offered. If we get offered the 31st pick for the 9th you wouldn't do it. If we get offered McDavid at 50% retained for the 9th, Loui, Jake, Roussel, and the Luongo recapture, you do it. Those examples are obviously hyperbolic but they make the point. You don't trade the pick for the sake of trading it. You trade it if you get something that is worth more to you than it. Its the same principle as "nobody is untouchable for the right price."
  2. So everybody on the Knights is tougher than everybody on the Canadiens because a heavily armored feudal Warrior is tougher than a French settler? The preoccupation with image to the point you need to constantly project how tough you are is the mentality of a teenager. Tough people don't talk about how tough they are. I think you're looking at it too narrowly. When I hear "Huggy Bear" I think of somebody with a good sense of humor and an amusing nickname. When I hear somebody wants to go by 'the Hawk' or something equally douchy I imagine somebody like Napoleon Dynamite wearing fingerless gloves threatening me with his ninjutsu skills.
  3. No it doesn't. Maybe a peewee team would think that. But grown adults wouldn't. Just like a grown adult isn't going to be intimidated by another player solely because the fans call him "The Venomous Snake" or something cringy and nonsensical. That's the kind of mindset that gives you dumb team names like the "Wild" or uniforms like the flying V. Do you think a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins is shaking in their skates from fright when playing the Sharks because sharks eat penguins?
  4. Huggy Bear is an awesome nickname. Its leagues better than just taking a syllable from a player's name and altering it somewhat like 99% of hockey nicknames. (Millsy, Mysey, Petey, Hogs, Demmer, etc). The nicknames that sound like some ferocious animal or badass warriors are really, really cringy in real life. They're something you'd call your toddler. They're absolutely patronizing to refer to an adult man. They may work for your D&D campaign or whatever, but I sure wouldn't want to be known as something like 'Falcon' or 'Viking' or 'XxNightpainxX'. I assume guys that legitimately want to be referred to by something like that are the same ones that won't shut up about their katana collection.
  5. Reading the outrage and cope from Vegas fans using terms that indicate they clearly still have no clue about hockey is so satisfying.
  6. I gotta say I'm one of those people who cheers for the Canucks and against every other team, but I'm developing a soft spot for Montreal. They ruined the Leafs, took out one of the most unlikeable teams I can remember in Vegas, and they've got some good ol' BC boys like Weber, Gallagher and Price. Not to mention their fanbase seems remarkably less hostile to us compared to the other Canadian teams. As bad as the season went for us this is something of a silver lining.
  7. You didn't refute any of my points, are attacking strawmen, and started it with your impossibly passive-aggressive comment. Go back and read my post, I added some context before you replied the first time. It might make it easier.
  8. Ah, "bud", the shibboleth of the flustered moron. The fact that you think Vancouver is the only fanbase to have rioted, shows you really don't have any idea what you're talking about.
  9. First, every team has terrible people in its fanbase. Canadian or not. Second, no, Vancouver isn't the only fanbase that rioted. Besides, the "fanbase" didn't riot. Some bad apples took advantage of a volatile situation and got some drunken idiots to start smashing things. If that reflects on Vancouver's fanbase then Edmonton has a racist fanbase because of the Ethan Bear incident. Third, the one thing that does seem to separate Vancouver from other fanbases is we have the only one that has a massive portion of it despising itself.
  10. He's not on the same level, but there was Kevin Labanc with the Sharks. And that came back to bite him very hard.
  11. These names are all pretty bad. They're either dumb or aviation related, which I get has a local connection but isn't a good idea when there are two NHL teams with aviation themes. Honestly Canucks, plain as it is, sounds like the best option.
  12. How does this work exactly? Wouldn't players become Alums once they retire? Or do they have to apply for membership? And whats the deal with the associate members?
  13. Yes, it doesn't even hold up to the eye test either. We've seen how Horvat can completely take over a game when he isn't forced to counter another team's top centre. I do think his defensive ability is overblown by Canucks fans, but both his offense and defense are underrated outside this market as well.
  14. I don't know if Boston would go for a full on rebuild, especially when they've got elite talent like Pastrnak and McAvoy in or entering their primes. What I imagine them doing is a larger scale version of the retool they did in 2015. They've still got Marchand locked up long term at reasonable caphit, and as much as we all dislike him, he is one of the best wingers in the NHL. Bergeron and Krejci I can totally see re-signing at sweetheart short term deals given their age. If they do something major, I can't imagine it would be until after next season, barring something unforeseen like the wheels completely falling off next year.
  15. Yes. I cheer for Vancouver and against other teams. Who I cheer for in a series is dependent on which team I like less. For example, I don't like Montreal and don't want to see them win, but I really don't like Vegas. So I'll be rooting for Montreal this round. As an aside though, I would maybe consider the title of the thread. When I read "tilt" I assumed you were talking about fights between players.
  16. And using your victory to take a potshot at a random team without any provocation is even more pathetic.
  17. First of all, Toronto is a special case. That team could $&!# itself in a McDonald's and the media would still talk about how it was a smart decision. They're always going to get overhyped. Second, I'm not talking about the media. I'm talking mostly about fans. Especially on this forum. Holding up the Avalanche as the ideal rebuild and why cant we be like that, ignoring the fact that to get there the Avalanche had to be a bottom feeder for longer than we've been.
  18. Well as much as I hate to see Vegas succeed maybe now people will finally shut up about Colorado since they haven't done anything yet.
  19. He's not the best defensively but he's not nearly as bad as people are making him out to be. The issue is the shine has just worn off and after the horrendous year the team has people are looking to heap criticism wherever they can.
