I don't know what your definition of "rebuild" is then. If you're "resetting" then you're starting anew, you're rebuilding. They broke down their old roster and started building again around a new core. Same as the Canucks. The fact that they only made the playoffs the once with the old core doesn't make it any less of a separate rebuild, otherwise you could argue the Canucks and Leafs have both been rebuilding since 1970 and 1967 respectfully.

Will Scheifele be suspended and for how long?
McBackup replied to Dumb Nuck's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Scheifele has always been an absolute lunatic who attacks players when he loses his temper. It just isn't really brought up because he's a good player. -
Honestly I won't really start looking at prospects until I know where we're picking.

[GDT] NHL Draft Lottery, June 2nd @ 4 pm on Sportsnet
McBackup replied to Beary Sweet's topic in Canucks Talk
If we were to get first overall any year it would be this one where both the player development and scouting is completely off the wall. -
Toronto was bad, built a team, made the playoffs once in 2013 choked with it and tore it all down again to start anew. I consider that a separate rebuild. Otherwise we could say they've been rebuilding since 1967, but we don't really consider this team the same continuation as the core from 1968. That's why I say they started their rebuild around the same time.

The Canucks are constantly compared to the Leafs because their rebuilds unofficially kicked off around the same time, and because the media will inevitably compare everything to Toronto. If we're comparing the Canucks to the Avs, they're doing fine then. People hold up Colorado as an exemplary rebuild, and they've done a great job no doubt. But lets also keep in mind just how bad they were for so long. Aside from having two blips where they made the playoffs (Like us since the Benning era started), they were a trainwreck. They picked in the Top 5 four times. They went 7 years with 1 playoff appearance, had multiple coaches and GM. My point is that yes Colorado has rebuilt their team to be a powerhouse, but we can't ignore that they did more sucking than we have so far to get there, so if your idea of an ideal rebuild is to do what Colorado did, we have to lose some more. There is no single model or path to build a cup contender. There are multiple ways to do it and you have to pick the one that works for your organization. The only one I think is a surefire way not to succeed is to deliberately tank, because that creates an environment and culture where losing becomes acceptable, and surprisingly enough thats what happened in Buffalo, Toronto and Edmonton who all deliberately tanked for 1st overall picks. And that culture becomes extremely difficult to get rid of. Look at all the people running for the hills from Buffalo. We were bad during that time as well make no mistakes about it, but Benning for all his warts still tried to keep the team competitive. He just hamstrung us in the long run in order to do so. Meanwhile in Toronto you've got your stars seemingly more concerned with squeezing the organization for every penny and flipping the puck over the glass so as not to get hit. I'm thankful that with our core, guys clearly give a damn and want to compete. You can speculate about JT Miller's attitude, but nobody thinks for a second that guy doesn't want to win. Petey is probably the most talented player to ever lace up for us and he works just as hard at the defensive side of the game as he does at scoring. Boeser made massive leaps in his game despite scoring less because he wanted to be a better all around hockey player rather than just a triggerman, because thats what it takes to win. I don't need to say anything for Bo. Hell, even with Podkolzin they drafted a guy who wants nothing more than to rip the puck from you and shove it down your throat. The rebuild is going fine in that sense. Its the superfluous extra crap tacked onto it, like overpaying over-the-hill guys to be 4th liners thats causing the problems.

This shows exactly why Marner isn't a playoff performer. He isn't choking. He's afraid to get hit. He's great at prancing around the ice with all the open space in the world during the regular season, but once the playoffs start and the physicality ramps up he'd rather throw the puck away than hold on to it to score if it means being on the receiving end of a check.

Yeah I understand that but didn't know why Orange in particular was chosen as the colour until I read the article @debluvscanucks shared. -

Whats the significance of the colour orange? -
Thats because fire is a useful tool when controlled, but can burn you if you're not careful. You want guys with fire when you're winning because it helps you keep winning. Thats because winning smooths over any problems. If you aren't winning however, that fire can cause damage to your team as well. Its a cost/benefit thing. There' also a difference between having "fire" and being a pain to be around when things aren't going your way. I'm not saying this is the case with Miller, just speaking broadly on the topic. On Miller specifically, I wouldn't make any sweeping decisions based on the absolute disaster that was this season, but going forward if he still looks to have attitude problems, I would absolutely send him packing. I know hockey is supposed to be a tough guy sport and at the NHL level it isn't about how much fun you're having, but one guy with a miserable attitude can cause it flare up in the room. It can exacerbate some already prevalent issues and cause players to resent coming to the rink, and that can absolutely tank a team's chance of success.

[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season
McBackup replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Schmidt I don't know about. Miller would be tough to swallow given how well he's shown he can play for us, and that we likely wouldn't recoup the cost it took to acquire him. But if he does have attitude issues he absolutely needs to go, you can't allow that to fester in a room with a young core. -
I'm not saying no to Kent Johnson, but I think a lot of the hype here about the Canucks taking him stems from the fact that he's a local kid. Same with Luke Hughes being Quinn's brother. Now if guys like this ARE in fact the BPA, obviously the Canucks should take them. But its a bad idea to draft based on storyline.
