[Buyout] Oliver Ekman-Larsson
McBackup replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah Aquilini’s meddling has been an extreme hindrance to the long term success of the club but I think people really don’t understand how crucial it is to have an owner actually willing to spend money on the club. -
Can Tyler Myers still become a good defenceman?
McBackup replied to brokensticks's topic in Canucks Talk
Myers is a good defenceman. He is just a grossly overpaid defenceman so his role is larger than he can handle. People like to shit on the guy because we always need whipping boys, but if Myers was making 1 mil against the cap and playing third pair minutes he would be utterly beloved here. -
[Proposal] Hannafin for first 2023?
McBackup replied to canucksnihilist's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
I would consider it, but only if he comes with a long-term extension attached. Otherwise not a chance. -
Not too high on Nate Danielson from what I'm reading and hearing. Every year in the draft there is at least one kid who is a very "complete" player but doesn't really wow you. Basically a low ceiling, high floor kind of guy. If the Canucks are going to take a player like that with their first round pick I'd like to see them trade down to do it rather than just use the eleventh for him straight up.

I was largely being facetious. I don’t actually think we’ll win the cup next year. I was commenting on how shortsighted and desperate a move it is.

Thanks

We better win the cup next year.

I'm sure he'll be able to afford many nice dinners very soon. If I were him I'd be more worried about that organization slipping something into my drink, given how they operate.

Doubtful. The Canucks have more expensive seats than this. They have 2 "Loges" that were 113k per seat per season back when the team was worse and they were still sold out. It doesn't even matter if you like the team or not, it just becomes a business expense once you're dropping that kind of cash on a hockey ticket.

[REPORT] Pierre-Luc Dubois has requested a trade
McBackup replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Not just the trade requests either. Sulking and floating around the ice because he isn’t getting his way. I don’t want this guy anywhere near this team. -
The Boogeyman 4/10. About as cliched and forgettable as a modern horror movie can be. The monster wasn't even scary.

[REPORT] Pierre-Luc Dubois has requested a trade
McBackup replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They can’t do a “rangers style” rebuild. The rangers rebuild was expedited by a bunch of players only wanting to sign in New York, plus Gary gifting them multiple lottery wins. Winnipeg is the opposite, nobody is falling over themselves to sign there. If they plan on rebuilding they have to be 100% sure about it, and do it both deliberately and organically. -

[REPORT] Pierre-Luc Dubois has requested a trade
McBackup replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Also, I don't want Dubois on this team. Ignoring how much people overrate a guy who has never once hit a point per game, is he a good player? Yeah, if he wants to be. Big if. But his attitude problems make alleged "locker room cancer" JT Miller look like Trevor Linden in comparison. -

Even if we completely ignore the trade itself, Dubois is not going to sign here. He wants to go to Montreal. -

Tkachuk 2.0. I think this is going to be a trend. We'll see what the Jest can get for him. -
Fanatics to be Official NHL Jersey maker next year
McBackup replied to OldFaithfulCap's topic in General Hockey Discussion
This looks no worse than any of the Adidas or Reebok draft hats we've had over the past 15 years. -
"Conflict of Interest" absurd. The league and media are incestuous co-conspirators. This is nothing. One broadcast guy whose wife works for the org is not a conflict of interest unless Cammi spills the beans about something over dinner and Ray leaks it on the air. On second thought that would be really entertaining. I'm all the more for it.

Imagine you, me and Jim Benning are at the lunch table, trading lunch items. Among the items I have in my lunch box are 2 candy bars. Jim also two candy bars. I trade Jim my sandwich, drink, and fruit for his two candy bars. I now have a total of four candy bars. If I trade you all four of my candy bars for something from your lunchbox, I am giving up four candy bars. And yes Carlsson is magic beans. He’s probably going to be a good player. I don’t care. You are proposing giving up an elite goalie and a PPG forward, plus a metric f**kton of magic beans, for fewer magic beans. This makes no sense.
-
I would consider this, but only if Petey indicates he's not interested in signing long-term and is going to pull a Tkachuk. At that point you have no choice but to blow it up anyway, and Karlsson and Johnson would be fantastic pieces to build around. The problem there is that if Petersson says he doesn't want to sign long term in Van, I highly doubt Columbus is on the list of places he does want to sign long term.
-
We are giving up four first round picks because we are giving up 2 of our own plus the assets required to get an additional two. Carlsson alone is magic beans. He is very tantalizing magic beans, but you are still talking about giving up multiple firsts and an elite goalie for magic beans. You are making the team worse for next season, yet giving up first round picks in the process, which is counterintuitive. I don’t understand the point of this trade beyond blockbusters for the sake of blockbusters.
-
I'm not really interested in these worldshaking deals where half the team and our assets get shipped out. The only way that would make sense is if we were doing a true scorched earth rebuild, but management has indicated that is not the direction they are going in, so a giant 3 way blockbuster for the sake of a giant 3 way blockbuster makes little sense. Losing 4 first round picks, Demko and Miller for the pokeball left on the table after the protagonist and their rival pick their starters, and some depth pieces is a terrible idea.
