  1. Surprising that he does well when he actually has a chance to play and isn't being constantly jerked around the lineup/between teams.
  2. Culturally we're living in an era of peak 90s nostalgia. A little while ago everybody was fetishizing the 80s. I respect the skate, but I think a few years from now the clamouring for it will die down. I just hope Canucks management realizes the hype for the skate will eventually subside and doesn't cave into making it the full time look. I'm not opposed to it being made the permanent third, but Blue and Green should never be abandoned again.
  3. I agree, nostalgia is ruling the day. The 2010s Stick-In-Rink is decent but has the issue of that thin blue stripe between the green and white. It muddies the green and makes it pop less, from a distance they look like Laffs jerseys.
  4. White at home made sense when that was the only time you were going to be able to see the opposing teams jerseys. Now that everybody and their mother has an HD colour tv and every game is available at the click of a button, as far as I'm concerned dark jerseys should be the home jerseys. You're in your barn, you should be wearing your colours.
  5. None of that is about orca specifically though. I'm looking at the uniforms holistically, and while the orca is a bad logo, the colours, striping etc are vastly superior. Everything else is a wash because it depends on what you're looking at.
  6. That's fair, its all personal preference anyway, I was just wondering if there was a particular reason as you're the first person I've seen who has said they prefer the white to black.
  7. Why? The black one is a much more striking, full and imposing jersey. The whites look a lot more bland in comparison as they definitely feel like they're secondary to the colour jerseys. They're not showcasing your team colours to the full extent, just used to clash with the opposing teams main colours. (That goes for almost all white jerseys though).
  8. I remember polls from some time ago where the black skate was not nearly as popular as it is now. The hype for it is largely nostalgia as we're riding the 90s nostalgia wave. I remember in the mid 00s people were clamoring to bring back the SIR jerseys. I have to disagree with the skate being "the best and not even close" when the colours are so much worse.
  9. I'm predicting the black skate wins overall. I won't be voting for it, but everyone seems fully on the 90s nostalgia bandwagon.
  10. First, I dont find his content particularly engaging. I used to watch his videos, but it seems like nearly everything he puts out is him just reading out numbers anyone can look up. Pumping out videos of reciting stat lines seems like he's just going for quantity over quality. Second and this is what really soured me on him, is how undeservedly smarmy he's become. He never played organized hockey yet when I watch the odd video of him now he often talks about how "he was right all along" or "he knew ___ would turn out that way before anyone else", and when he's proved to be wrong about something, Pettersson being a great example, rather than own up to it he gets pissy and deflects. (Also as an aside he's one of those Canucks fans who disparages the fanbase yet magically doesn't include himself, which I find particularly offputting). Overall I just get this vibe of arrogance that most people wouldn't like in a former player turned analyst, but at least that could be understood as they did play at the highest level. The Hockey Guy doesn't really have a leg to stand on in that regard, yet he comes off as if he's infallible with no history to support it other than watching lots of hockey. That said I don't care if people watch his videos and I dont wish him any ill will, I just find it a bit perturbing that ive seen people treating him as some kind of authority when he has no more expertise than your average CDC poster.
  11. I grew up in Victoria, I'm very familiar with SOFMC. Now it's important to note that the architecture and lighting of every arena is different. The majority of the arena is blue though, like the Royals jerseys, and blue is much more of a calmer, background colour than red, which is aggressive and jumps out at you. I agree though the darker shade isn't as egregious as say scarlet, but I do think in Roger's the contrast between the red seats and the blue/green everything else makes a difference.
  12. They're not going to trade first overall for Michaelis.
  13. Well, the stadium really should reflect the aesthetic of the team playing in it, or at the very least be neutral. A blue/green interior would look really nice and very "Vancouver". The red looks off, and it also sticks out like a sore thumb. Despite the protestations of the self-flagellating Canucks "fans" here, we really do pack the building on most nights, but the red makes the odd empty seats stick out a lot more. When the majority of people there are wearing blue or black, the red seats draw the eye. Detroit had a similar problem where they had to change the colours of the seats in their lower bowl.
  14. Its crazy to me how much leverage people give the opinion of a smarmy egotist who can't skate.
  15. The seats were originally going to be replaced either this off season or perhaps next. I remember one of the higher ups on the operations side of the team said something about replacing the seats with team colours. Obviously Covid has put the kibosh on that for the time being. As far as the scoreboard, I don't think that will be replaced for a while. When it was added it was the largest in the league, and there really isn't anything wrong with it. The only argument for replacing it is that some teams have bigger scoreboards with moderately higher resolution. For the purposes of attending a hockey game though, the difference really is marginal. A stadium scoreboard is really expensive, and with revenue getting slashed I really can't see a new one for a long time. I dont really see the need for the absurdly large scoreclocks either. You're watching the game live, if you wanted to see it on a screen stay home or go to the pub. When I go to a game I look at the screen to check the shotclock or a replay, and it's more than adequate for that. If you're shelling out big bucks for tickets just to stare at the screen, something's wrong. I actually find the overtly massive flatscreens hanging from arenas like Colorado or Tampa a bit offputting.
  16. Thats not what "Nationality" means.
  17. Most Canucks fans are Canadians. It would be very rare for people of other "nationalities" to be hockey fans at all, let alone Canucks fans.
  18. Really? As a whole I enjoy the conjuring series but I definitely wouldn't call this "The Scariest Movie Ever", not even close. I need to know what was particularly unsettling about it. I thought the scariest part of that movie was the 5 minute prologue with Annabelle, and they milked 3 spinoffs out of that. The rest of it created some decent atmosphere but was dragged down by a bunch of extremely predictable jumpscares.
  19. I use PC because I typically prefer the games on PC to the ones on console. I have consoles too, but I won't be buying a next gen one until well after they've been out for awhile and the price has been knocked down and they've built up a half decent library of games. I will likely buy a PS4 once the price on those plummets because I went with the Xbox one last generation.
  20. Maybe he picked 96 because they wouldn't let him have Doug Glatt's number
  21. The speculation about Boeser being hurt or too big I think is overanalyzing the situation. During his rookie year he was set up as the guy to be firing the puck for most of the time, and since then he's not been the only focal point on the offense. On top of that, most teams didn't really have a book on him and hes started to round out his game and not just blasting the puck every chance he gets. And quite frankly, that came during a time when Boeser was one of the few rays of light in a dark time for this team. So we really kinda hyped him up to be the third Hull or something. His goals have taken a step back and he's not going to be winning Selke, but the Boeser we've had recently is a much more complete player and I wouldn't be surprised to see him shooting more in the future.
  22. Theres something satisfying about building a contender in spite of hard luck as opposed to being handed everything though.
  23. No to Laine. He'd cost too much to acquire, want way too much money, is known to be a bit of a diva, and while he's taken strides last year to round out his game, his overall game is still lacking.
