That's a really passive aggressive run-on sentence from someone who is also just an armchair GM.

With that Anderson contract things could be really ugly if Jake takes it to arbitration.

In Vancouver? Might just be a prudent real estate investment.

Flames to wear retro jerseys on full-time basis

lets not ditch our beautiful unique fitting colour scheme for the skate just to ride the nostalgia wave. -
I get that, and I'm definitely on board for BC boys on the Canucks, but I'm talking about grossly overvaluing players because of where they're from, with people proposing things Podkolzin + Hoglander + 2021 First + The Deed to Rogers Arena for 1 year of Tyson Barrie. I only see gross overvaluing like that for local guys. Or Alberta boys in the case of the Oilers/Flames fans, French players for Montreal, etc.

It's not really a "prerequisite", it's that very often when a player wants to come home, they'll take less to make it happen. Just like it takes more money to lure a player to a location that he doesn't want to go. What I find stranger is the obsession with bringing back local boys solely by virtue of the fact they're from here. Not a shot at Dillon he's a solid D, but quite often when a player is rumoured to be on the block fans often drastically overvalue their worth just to get the homegrown product on their team. With the Canucks for example, every time a BC boy becomes available you see proposals of people trying to sell the farm to bring them here when they aren't worth more than a couple cows, and I can only speculate its because people want local talent on their team.

You don't think we do that as well? Blame it being a Canadian market if you wish but Petey has been insanely hyped ever since his MVP SHL season, and that's only risen ever since. The same effect took its toll on Toronto with their young players. 11.6 for Matthews? Great player but if he were anywhere else he'd be making Eichel money too. Let's also not brush aside that Aho is probably at a discount after that offer sheet nonsense.

Petey's contract is likely going to be Eichel-like. Hughes is a complete wildcard and given the current circumstances regarding his role, eligibility, growth etc it's impossible to predict at this point and we'll have to wait until a little later to see what he's looking for.

[McKenzie] Eichel may have requested trade out of BUF
McBackup replied to EP40.'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Eichel is a great player but we simply do not have the assets or cap space to acquire him, plus we already have a franchise centre who is younger and cost controlled for at least another year. I understand any time theres speculation around a player people here will of course theorize about him here, but there is absolutely no reason for us to make this trade. -
[Speculation] Jake Debrusk might be available.
McBackup replied to MoneypuckOverlord's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The DeBrusk for Boeser idea is absolutely mindboggling to me. You want to trade Boeser for a player who has had less success in his career on a significantly better team? For all the talk about Canucks fans overvaluing their own guys there is still a significant portion who will always see the grass as greener on the other side even if its red. -
[Rumour] Alex Pietrangelo to test free agency
McBackup replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Good player, can't afford him. Realistically he would be nice to have but with the current cap situation it's just not feasible. -

Someone has to teach the Make Beleafs to play defense I guess. Good luck Manny. Here's hoping for some contrived scenario where you succeed but Toronto continues to crash and burn.

[Speculation] Canucks looking to move Jake Virtanen

[Speculation] Canucks looking to move Jake Virtanen

It's not like it was some giant whiff either. Getting a regular NHL player out of any draft pick is still a win, and Jake was on pace for 20 goals that year. Given who was taken around him it's a fine pick. -
Colon cancer sounds like a particularly horrible way to go. I hope he didn't suffer too much. RIP.

CDC Petition to make the black skate our 3rd Jersey over the stick in rink
McBackup replied to Gator's topic in Canucks Talk
Voting no. With this team's visual identity muddled enough it's time we stop flirting with other colour schemes for a very long time. The Canucks have never really had a good logo, so if it's a wash in that case I'd rather take the vastly superior colours. -
Twitter reacts to Kevin Bieksa
McBackup replied to Twilight Sparkle's topic in General Hockey Discussion
How can any Canucks fan not love Juice? Not only is he a brilliant commentator, it's nice to have someone on a national panel who leans in our direction for once. I get they're supposed to be unbiased. But they aren't. So since that's the playing field there is nobody I'd rather see out there than Kevin.
