  1. The entire reason Treliving left Cowtown is because he wanted to fire Sutter, got in a power struggle, and lost. Then upper management/ownership realized what problems Sutter was causing and canned him too. Whether Treliving hired him in the first place is completely irrelevant. This is like saying Shanahan didn’t fire Dubas because he hired Dubas.
  2. Doubt that will happen considering Treliving left Calgary in the first place because he couldn't fire Sutter.
  3. It will be interesting to see how Treliving does as GM in a city where players generally aren't desperate to leave. I imagine that alone will make his job significantly easier.
  4. The flipside of that is Brady Tkachuk. Wood has also produced at a PPG clip as a freshman in university playing against grown men. Virtanen produced at a PPG clip in the dub against boys as someone who physically matured early. They're not really comparable, I don't think drafting Wood would be drafting size over skill. I think Wood has a skillset that also includes size/toughness. That said I'm not necessarily advocating they draft Wood, I think after the first 5 or so picks this draft is a complete crapshoot and have no idea who will be there at 11. But you can't let the fear of drafting another Virtanen override your decision making any more than the fear of him turning into Cam Neely had people petrified of trading him after it was clear it wasn't working. What really makes me raise an eyebrow is that he's from the Island. Just like French players to the Habs or Minnesotans to the Wild, whenever a local guy pops up on the radar you have people drastically overrating them and wanting to move heaven and earth to bring them to the Canucks. So if Wood is the right player to take at 11 great I'm all for it, I just think he's getting the BC boy bump at the moment.
  5. Damn its shocking nobody has hired you to be their GM. Perhaps its all the screaming.
  6. It stands out because it happened to us, so people here hyperfixate on it. Everytime Tkachuk blows his nose you get a groundswell of people crying that "ThE cAnUCks cOulD hAvE hAd TkAcHuK!" There is also a LOT of revisionist history around that draft. Tkachuk was considered by most to be the next best pick, however it wasn't the equivalent of Canucks passing on Connor McDavid for a guy projected to go 70th overall like people make it out to be. Juolevi was an extremely highly touted prospect. He was generally considered the best defense prospect in the draft and could have easily gone to the Oilers at 4. Tkachuk was usually ranked higher, but it wasn't this obvious gulf of difference as people claim. There was legitimate concern that he was benefitting from being on the Marner-Dvorak line rather than being the play driver itself. He was considered to be in the next tier after the "clear" 1-2-3 of Matthews, Laine and Puljujarvi. What threw a wrench into everything was Dubois. The Canucks really liked Dubois, and there was rampant speculation that they were going to either take him or flip the pick to Montreal for Subban so they could take him. However Columbus took Dubois instead of Puljujarvi who was ranked ahead of both him and Tkachuk, and everything after that went topsy turvy. Obviously we know now how wrong the rankings and projections were, but that comes back to hindsight being 20-20. Which comes back to my point about every team having gaffes, like Quinn being clearly ahead of Kotkaniemi and Hayton. Conversely, Hischier and Patrick were the clear 1 and 2 above the next 3 players taken, with Pettersson even being considered a reach at 5. But I bet if you asked Philly whether they'd rather have Patrick or Heiskanen/Makar/Pettersson we know their answer. If you want to flip it, you know what was even more of an obvious mistake than Juolevi over Tkachuk? The Flames taking Mason McDonald over Demko, when Demko was universally considered the best goalie prospect. But we don't hear about that because we got Demko. I guarantee you if we took McDonald, people would cry like they do about Tkachuk. Happens to everyone, but posting on a Canucks messageboard in Canuckland we're going to focus on when it happened to us. It gets very annoying hearing about it constantly. I think the only other thing brought up constantly thats more annoying are the people crying for a jersey change. At least the people whining about Tkachuk are technically correct.
  7. I think the better question is, will this fanbase ever stop crying about Tkachuk? Probably not since we still bring up Neely. It was a mistake. Every team makes them. Are New Jersey and Philly crying about taking Hischier and Patrick over Pettersson? Do Montreal, Arizona and Detroit incessantly yammer about taking Kotkaniemi, Hayton and Zadina over Hughes? Are those same Calgary fans upset about Tkachuk leaving also in tears that the Flames took Mason McDonald over Demko? Maybe, I don’t know I don’t frequent those circles but I imagine it would be just as annoying. Besides if we’re playing the “hindsight is 20/20” game, I’d rather have Fox.
  8. Tim’s coffee is gross. Same for their donuts and sandwiches and whatever else. It’s popular because they’re everywhere, it’s cheap, and they’ve done a masterful job in tying in their brand with Canadian nationalism, so now idiots think drinking Tim Hortons is patriotic. If you like Tims that’s fine, but it is annoying when people treat subpar fast food as a source of Canadian pride. I don’t mind their tea though.
  9. I'm starting to suspect Verstappen is actually some extremely dedicated troll.
  10. I'd be in favour of dark blue. Its subtler than the red seats but still matches the team's aesthetic.
  11. It could just be that section though. The rest of the arena might not be that colour, or might not even change yet. They've been 'auditioning' various seat options lately to see what works. I imagine different areas will get different seats as well.
  12. I remember seeing the 'Loge' seating at the arena, which was $113,000 a couple years ago. Also I don't think the black seats are any indication of a change to the skate. Black is just an easily available, neutral colour. A bunch of teams don't have seats that match the colour of their team, including Edmonton, Toronto and Calgary. Also switching to the Skate jerseys full time would be an incredibly stupid decision from a brand management standpoint. But this is the Canucks we're talking about so maybe I shouldn't put it past them.
  13. Deb I have some questions regarding your thought process these last few years.
  14. And they’re undefeated on Tuesdays when it’s -2.3 degrees and partly cloudy in Walla Walla, Washington.
  15. Seems that way. This team honestly feels cursed sometimes.
  16. Does Scott Powers also misuse big words he doesn’t understand the definition of to sound like the smartest guy in the room? Otherwise that may not be a fair comparison.
  17. Very glad we didn’t trade Hoglander for him like New York was insisting on.
  18. Oh yeah I agree. I just think it’s not as simple and straightforward as that. Like I think Garland is the one we should keep out of our superfluous wingers, but based on other factors it may not work out that way.
  19. I don’t think they can easily move Marner. I think his value is hurting due to his playoff appearances, his personal drama and all that, and beyond that there is his cap hit. Not many teams are going to both have the assets the Laffs will want for him and have the ability to absorb an 11million dollar hit to their salary structure. If the Leafs do move him they’ll be getting pennies on the dollar.
