  1. Give up those cat sandwiches Alf and that'll show you mean business!
  2. Getting Myers off our books will go a long way to making the D-core more flexible from a salary perspective. As others have said, the crunch of course won't exist in a world where the Canucks stand pat and let the contracts run it's course. But the mandate is to make the playoffs and contend next year. To do that we need a 3C, and we need that depth defense. That will cost more than the $4 mil (assuming Poolman and Pearson stay on LTIR), that's when teams like Chicago can pounce on us and offer to take Myers or Garland in exchange for premium draft capital. Ideally, I really hope Hirose sticks with the team next year, both cost efficient and he showed promise in his limited games with us. Crunch or no crunch, that margin of error to the cap ceiling is a tight space to operate within.
  3. I'm not indicting it, I'm denying it's existence
  4. I think until the cap ceiling is actually raised by the league I don't see Chi doing this. The going rates to move 6 mil is a 1st rounder alone and Chicago will want to maximize that value while the cost of cap space is at an all time high. This is the same team that cost us a 2nd to save ~1-2 mil in Jason Dickinson
  5. If there's one thing I want to change in the organizations DNA. It is this.
  6. I do know you said Gillis left behind 13 NTCs List them please
  7. My favorite was last season. September: "Allvin and Rutherford kept Bennings roster together And made zero changes. That is validation that Benning did a good job!" Come January: "Allvin and Rutherford ran this team into the ground! And is responsible for everything (my inset: that's been pent up for years that we can't blame JB for)!" Its literally an ego-death shift for some to admit they supported a generationally bad GM. Slagging on JR and Gillis is how the cope works. I dont expect it to change.
  8. Disgusting, he should never hold a job again. Chicago got Bedard, and it hasn't even been a year and they're hoping this is swept under the rug?
  9. I think he meant in Duba's tenure when the Leafs averaged 106 points per season since he started when before they perpetually sucked and 105pts was their all time high. First round memes blah blah yes. We have not posted a 100 pt team in a while. So for this decade that's been true.
  10. One can only hope Toronto overcorrects and hires a meat and potatoes GM
  11. We do have cap problems. We're in a position where we may have to pay to trade away a decent winger. How is that false? As a "doom monger" I'll add It's mutually exclusive btw. "Doom monger" =/= "we have cap problems". Especially in the context of the compete now mandate. if we were willing to take a step back. I agree. No cap problems
  12. My favorite is: "Doesn't matter if we traded a 1st and 2nd. Benning is so good at drafting we'll recoup it with a steal in the 3rd." That's literally lower odds than the draft lottery retoolers make fun of
  13. Despite making the cupless club a little bit smaller for us, I want to see this happen.
  14. He said on Spitting Chicklets that he wanted a long term deal, fwiw, a 6-8 year deal.
  15. The only consolation is that the Flames are feeling the regret right now. They chose to bridge Tkachuk to keep Michael Frolik on the roster. This should be a warning to us, as we bridged Petey because we signed Poolman months earlier.
  16. I think we have to compete for the reasons laid out. But you have to be careful not to trade too many futures away if you want sustained competitiveness. This is maybe a decade in the future but on the flip side with Petey and Hughes. We must also be soberly proactive with how this window plays out too. We're only in this mess because management thought it would be "unfair" to the Sedins to tank and rebuild during 2014-18. We can't afford that. We have to do what's right for the Franchise and not try and Short cut and cheat what is a natural cycle of a team.
  17. I think it's possible to like what the trade could potentially bring on the ice (TBD). But absolutely hate it from a timing/asset/cap/process management perspective. I think Yzerman Cody Hodgson'ed us with how Detroit has been deploying Hronek his career.
  18. Take a step back. Don't try and compete and let the cap replenish naturally like they should have done in 2021. And wait out the UFA market to make cheap effective 1 year depth signings. When you're in a squeeze your decisions will be made with a certain degree of tilt and desperation that could cost more down the line. Basically canucks have to resist eating the cookie now for the promise of two cookies in the future. We won't.
  19. Haha I can write an entire dissertation of how we f**ked up our prospects or how bad weve been. It's really chicken or the egg here. We can't develop these guys unless we actually draft them. How many 2nds and 3rds have we given away in the last three years and next two? I believe in Hogs though. He managed to stay afloat with Benning throwing him straight into the ringer. Even if just one prospect out of the 2nd round succeeds I'll be happy. It's an incredibly hard bar to clear especially for this team. Just gotta give time. Time. Benning took years to destroy the sedin and management culture . It'll take time to build it back The infrastructure is finally there, The team just has to stop buying and actually pick a year where they admit they shouldn't be buying and actually admit they are a team that needs to take a step back. I doubt its happening unfortunately.
