2017 NHL Draft - Chicago, Illinois June 23-24 2017
Sugar baby watermelon replied to hyper00's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
At 1st I was all in on Middlestadt, (he is a high 3rd haha, only due to everyone freaking out he may pull a Vesey), now my 2nd is Vilardi if available, and Glass tops the list, due to not only his game play but his upbringing, sounds like a great kid to bring to the organization. That and he still has room to grow, literally, and he could be a force for us down the road. -

The Bleacher report is just click bait, isn't it? have to wait 20 seconds for the next page to load up and they show all their stink advertisements in between.... -

whoever we get at 5 is going to be huge for the Canucks going forward. Either centre picked is going to bring something different if selected as it seems as if the 3 big ones available, (Middlestadt, Vilardi, or Glass), I am pretty amped for whomever we pick, I was against Vilardi and Glass and was all in on Middlestadt, if he is even available, but the other 2 have grown on me particularly Glass. Having a 1-2 punch of any of these potential picks and Horvat is going to make us competitive in the near future, not talking about next year or the year after, let's be realistic, but 3-4 years down the line. It's just a question of who. And who knows, maybe TO or Arizona pulls the trigger on a Tanev deal and sends us their 1st round pick and we can select a high ranking Dman. -

If Vilardi falls to 5 then its possible the Canucks pick him, how could they not, he is 6'2'', which is a great size for the Western Conference battles and he protects the puck quite well either holding opponents off himself or against the boards. He can play the wing due to his team having some solid top centres right now but once those centres make the jump to their teams minor clubs then he will take over the centre but that may not be for 2 years as Logan Brown is still only 19. (Is it 20yrs old when they can make the jump to the AHL?) Dude is only 6'2'' and only 17yrs old, he may still be growing another couple of inches as well. -

Sorry not trying to be harsh but it would take a heck of a lot more than that to get Sakic to part with Mckinnon, (even with Mckinnons comments at the Worlds). -
I really liked what I saw from Rodin in the pre-season and I hope he is given another shot. I know it was just the pre-season but he looked like he had another gear out there offensively.

grew 2 inches extra since his draft year, that's awesome, now standing at 6'3'', great size for a defenceman!! Might the same thing happen with Makar? Eligible for Utica next year, he might get a taste with an injury call-up. Going to be some good depth on the farm soon.- 1,427 replies

Like that rumor that has Tanev going to TO for their 1st and 2 prospects. Makes sense for Tanev, why waste his prime years on a bottom feeder when he can play close to home and have a chance at the cup in the centre of the hockey universe. -

at the start I was hoping Benning would pick a C as their is an abundance of them this year and you cant go wrong with the ones that will be leftover in Glass, Middlestadt, or Vilardi if he drops to 5. the more I see of Makar the more I am opening up to the Canucks picking him at 5th over Heiskanen or Liljegren. he has top notch scoring ability, prob 4.5/5 fantasy potential haha. (i seen that in some mock draft rankings lately). this kid is a defensive sniper, not only does he have the various ways of shooting down to a T, he also has good wheels and knows how to, (using a bball term here), do a wicked crossover and leave his defender in the dust. if the defender didnt have good ankle support i'm sure he would have broke his ankles haha. just watching his highligts video provided, I can see his hockey IQ is pretty high, offensively he knows how to fake players and goalies out and open up scoring lanes for himself. i know that he is in a junior league but if Craig Button has no issue with that or taking his skills to the next level with no problems then that is good enough for me. all that defensive aspects can be taught as his career goes along but that offensive potential is off the charts. as a few people are pointing out, a good defensive corps is needed in todays nhl if you want to go far in the playoffs and csn you imagine one being led by Juolevi and Makar? -

you cant go wrong with either of these 2 as they have that innate offensive instinct that cant be taught. we dont have prospects with their offensive skill level, well we didnt until recently, with acquisotion of Goldobin, Dahlen, and drafting of Boeser. although a few ppl here and there wanted someone to come in right away, i am ok with these kids developing and then making the jump at or near the same time and explode onto the scene. -

Nice this draft couldn't come fast enough haha. Out of curiosity who is on your top 15? I saw on a few mock draft recently that he is picked after the Canucks 2nd round pick, usually around 36 or later. -

what do you guys think of using that 2nd round pick on Jason Robertson? 6'2" LW 17 yr old prospect from the Frontenacs? he put up 99pts this season on a bum team, he accounted for 23% of his teams goals and most came from below the hash marks. he has a knock against him regarding his skating but as we all know that can be improved on through training. he is a powerforward type player that has good size and possibly still room to grow. not much hype about this kid and wondering why? -

I am no expert here, but wouldn't 1 stay at home Dman partnered up with an offensive Dman be how the pairings are set-up? The stay-at-home Dman and one of the forwards can fall back if someone like Subban joins the O-zone rush. I didn't say their job was to make up for the others mistakes all the time lol, maybe you picked that up from someone else. Like I said I am no expert just a fan chiming in. -

n Not on topic but man they need to just give this guy a chance or move on, partner him with a stay at home Dman and let him loose. He can make up for it in offense and if not, maybe time to move on from him. I think he can deliver if Green gives him the ''green'' light. -

That 2nd overall pick is looking really exciting now too... wouldn't mind having some tall guys with our picks, guys like Nikita Popaguev or Isaac Ratcliffe, out of the two preferably Ratcliffe or Hague on D.... all dudes are skilled and big -

Actually I was just looking at that one too haha!! That's why I chimed in with that, I would be happy with that too, also read up on Anderson-Dolan and he looks like a good player to pick as well, he is a bit on the small side at 5'11'' though so that has me a little skeptical -

How about with that 2nd pick of ours, if Nicolas Hague is still on the board, how can we pass up on him? Dude is 6'5'' and knows how to use his length and reach, not as nasty as they come but not afraid to put some ppl on their butts. Remind you of someone in particular?? See the link from a draft prospect profile for a pretty good read on him. http://www.allaboutthejersey.com/2017/5/8/15570306/massive-defenseman-nicolas-hague-2017-nhl-draft-prospect-profile-mississagua -

Dobber Prospects 2017 has Canucks taking Heiskanen at 5th. What you think? 1. New Jersey Devils – Nolan Patrick, Center (Brandon, WHL) Patrick is a franchise-level, big, strong, and smart top-line center with a complete game who should pay quick dividends for the low-scoring Devils. Often injured in recent years, they'll do their due diligence and cross their fingers hoping none of his past injuries impact future performance. - Kevin Wickersham@KWcrosscheck 2. Philadelphia Flyers – Nico Hischier, Center (Halifax, QMJHL) A dynamic offensive force, the 6-0, 179-pound agile, lightning-quick Hischier will likely transition to a high-powered wing spot on the Flyers top-six next season providing a needed scoring boost. - Kevin Wickersham @KWcrosscheck 3. Dallas Stars – Casey Mittelstadt, Center (Green Bay, USHL) The Stars have plenty of solid D prospects in Esa Lindell, Stephen Johns and Julius Honka and believe Mittelstadt is the best overall player.- Peter Harling @pharling 4. Colorado Avalanche – Owen Tippett, Right Wing (Mississauga, OHL) Arguably the best player available and the organization lacks true shoot-first forwards. Hayden Soboleskih@soboleskih 5. Vancouver Canucks – Miro Heiskanen, Defence (HIFK, Liiga) The tremendously gifted left-hander displays all the tools to become a top pairing defender down the road. His skating, vision, and IQ are off the charts and he demonstrated his offensive flair by potting two goals and 12 points in seven U18 contests. While he's not the biggest player, his ability to process the game at a high level allows him to smoothly disrupt zone entries and transition into the offense. – Cam Robinson @CrazyJoeDavola3 6. Vegas Golden Knights – Gabriel Vilardi, Center (Windsor, OHL) Same reason as Mock Draft 1.0 and Vilardi will be a great player to build an expansion team around. It really does depend on how Vegas' Expansion Draft goes, if they don't get a stud #1 down the middle in the Expansion, drafting Vilardi to be that guy in the future will help their development in the first few years of Expansion. - Paul Zwambag @zwambag -

Alot of his teammates he has been playing since he was 4 or 5 years old and he was that close to winning the prior year and wanted another run at it not just for him but for his teammates. He did go back after not being able to win a championship and put up points in the USHL. -

Just checked out HF Boards Stars page and their draft thread. Alot of their fans are really high on Heiskanen and don't think too highly of Vilardi. They sound like they like Glass more than Vilardi. So there is that haha. -

Nice work!! No you can't go wrong with Vilardi at 5th if he is available. Wasn't he playing wing this year on Logan Browns line? Next year will be an even bigger year for him. Our window to compete again is 2-3 years away and when he finishes with the Spitfires and is AHL eligible, he may just make the jump directly into the NHL. I am a Glass guy, then Middlestadt, but mostly because I believe Vilardi won't be available at 5th, but whomever Benning chooses, as long as its a Centre, then I will be extremely happy! -

Anyone think their will be a trade of picks between Tampa Bay and Vancouver for Drouin to come this way and maybe Tanev going back their way? Not sure how it would work out but they need D and we need a 1C. Just throwing it out there, not what I really want but just coming up with ideas.
