  2. Imo, Wolanin lost his gig because of money, not his play. Played better than Rathbone and equaled Burroughs.
  3. It is fine to be aggressive- as long as you get the hits. Last year the aggression got them hits. This season they hit into double plays or pop ups. Should have figured out early in the season they need to take more pitches. I just hope management doesn't fritter away the 'window' of this team. Having Schnieder as boss for a full season, and training camp will likely help; but then we don't know if John is getting the full time gig, yet. Have to get better running the bases. Have to get better defensively need another high quality starter-unless Ryu or Kikuchi improve massively for next season still need a few better arms in the bull pen. Fortunately they do have the offensive players, that can be moved to fix the holes.
  4. When some crap disturber takes liberties with your star players; you don't get payback by trying to beat that guy up. Instead you skate past the opponent's bench, look straight at their star players and say " Now we are all coming for you". Their talented guys will tell their shit disturbers to settle down. We now have enough players, with an edge, to worry the other teams stars.
  5. WHAT? nvmd- just read the report 2-4 weeks lower body injury.
  6. Wasn't sure if I should use the laugh, or cry emoji, So I went with 'cheers'
  7. I get the fact she said 'bad' things about Hughes, but I don't get how you "know' it is made up. You may have read other people saying Hughes in good/great and take that as true, but that would be a belief. Sorry if I'm being pedantic, but I'm feeling a bit under the weather, which makes me ornery. I really don't care that a junior management employee got let go other than: Whoever did the hiring, needs to re think some of their hiring practices, as this was a very short term hire. Looks like a mess up, don't want to see it's like again. And I was not impressed that some posters take her firing as 'proof' that diversity hiring doesn't work.
  8. Buckley Bay gas station, had a cash discount for years, but since the inland highway by passes them, I haven't been there in years. I mentioned earlier, and Boudrias kind of echoes those concerns Increased theft- from robbers and employees dipping in the till. increased transportation costs, as more trips to the bank will be required. Increased employee costs/ time loss as Cash outs will take longer, more bills and coins to count. Going to be really hard to sympathize with Mall Wart if they start charging more for CC purchases. Already extremely wealthy, already charging people for bags- how much money is enough, Walton family?
  9. Dan Shilman is calling the games for ESPN/SN radio, so it will be Buck doing tv play by play. Getting closer to game time.
  10. How do you KNOW it is made up? Do you personally know Luke Hughes, or do you just believe what some people have said, over what Rachel is alleged to have said?
  11. Hey, I'm not dying, just feels like a moderate hangover-which is hitting hard as I haven't had a hangover in years.
  12. The way I feel today, kind of wish I'd waited for the pfizer. minor headache, nasuea and at 4:30 am a case of the shakes. On the plus side- I managed to eat something, and keep it inside me. I'll be dozing on and off till Jays Game time.
  13. RCMP issue warning about a dangerous man on the loose; https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/kelowna-s-bus-killer-wanted-on-b-c-wide-warrant-rcmp-warn-not-to-approach/ar-AA12Gugz?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=8451e2960f154d139cb47ebcae8fe6d6 A Kelowna man with a notorious criminal record that includes a 2014 killing on a city bus is again being sought by police. Tyler Jack Newton is wanted on a B.C.-wide warrant for aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and using an imitation firearm relating to an incident in West Kelowna in December 2021. "Please do not approach Newton if observed and contact 911," RCMP said. "Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Newton is requested to contact police or Crime Stoppers." In March, Newton pleaded guilty to driving dangerously and evading police from a July 2021 incident in West Kelowna — as well as charges of possession of stolen property and breaching his release order from an incident in January 2022. The crime he spent the most time in prison for, however, was the killing of Caesar Rosales. The victim was commuting home on Kelowna’s No. 8 bus on Oct. 30, 2014, after finishing his shift at KF Aerospace, when Newton, who was in a drug-fuelled psychosis, stabbed him in the neck and ran away. Rosales died on the bus floor. Video: Newton sentenced to 7 years for Kelowna transit bus stabbing During the four-plus years Newton was in prison for that crime, numerous parole documents outlined his behaviour as problematic, both behind bars and while granted limited freedoms. The parole board once wrote that Newton continued to engage "in high-risk and risk-relevant behaviour while supervised. (He has) a significant court history and (has) demonstrated a consistent disregard for the law," read the document. Because of this, the parole board said he was "unreliable and unpredictable when in the community." Read more: Kelowna bus killer pleads guilty to new set of crimes, gets more time in jail He was assessed as a high-risk and high-needs offender. His criminal record dates back to before he killed Rosales, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, breach of conditions and drug convictions. Kelowna RCMP considered him a prolific offender. RCMP haven't offered any insight into where they think Newton may be.
  14. This play offs maybe the last games Buck Martinez calls, according to this story: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/mlb/lilley-buck-martinez-a-champion-of-a-baseball-broadcaster-may-hang-up-the-mic/ar-AA12HFOx?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=8451e2960f154d139cb47ebcae8fe6d6 We have Buck Martinez for now, so Blue Jays fans should enjoy him, especially during the playoffs. The veteran and venerable broadcaster has hinted that he may be hanging up the microphone after this season. It would be a great loss for Jays fans across the country and specifically for Toronto sports fans who don’t know how lucky they are when it comes to play-by-play teams. Martinez calls games alongside Dan Shulman and Pat Tabler for Sportsnet with a raspy voice that exudes calm and confidence. The longtime player, broadcaster and one-time Jays manager has been around baseball his whole life, but at 73, told The Globe and Mail recently that he may not be back next season. “It’s just me. You know, I’ve been through a lot. And, you know, my wife and I have had a lot of discussions about it. I don’t know,” Martinez said when asked if he will be back next season. He stepped away from the mic earlier this year as he battled cancer and that experience had him thinking, he says. Maybe it is time to spend more time with his wife and family rather than being on the road so much. Martinez is, from my perspective, one of the best in the business. I don’t say this with any deep baseball knowledge, but what I know about the game is what Martinez or Sun baseball writer Rob Longley has likely forgotten about by noon. What I do know is broadcasting, having spent most of the last 20 years in radio and television. Martinez among the best in the city What Toronto sports fans too often don’t realize is that we have some of the best in the broadcast business in this city. From Martinez giving colour commentary alongside Shulman or doing the play by play with Tabler, Jays fans have some of the best game callers in the business. I’ve been thinking about this since the news of Vin Scully’s passing came down in August. Scully started out as part of the Dogers broadcast team in 1950 when they were still in Brooklyn. He moved with them to Los Angeles and was their main voice until 2016. His style, his cadence, his patter were legendary. I’d put the Jays broadcast team on that level or on the same level are the great Brent Musburger of “you are looking live…” fame. It’s not just the Jays though, it’s the whole sports broadcasting ecosystem here. Matt Devlin, the voice of the Raptors, is an incredible broadcaster. Have you heard him call a baseball game as well? The man doesn’t miss a beat, you’d think it was his main sport. Whether paired with Alvin Williams, Jack Armstrong or Leo Rautins, the coverage has been amazing. It’s a bit more difficult to lay out a broadcast team for the Leafs given that so many of their games end up on Hockey Night in Canada and the rest are split between competing crews at TSN and Sportsnet. On radio though, the team of Joe “Holy Mackinaw” Bowen and Jim Ralph is second to none. There’s a special connection between fans watching, or listening, to a game and the broadcast crew. When they are your hometown crew there is a comfort level with hearing those voices call out the game, one that quickly disappears when you have to listen to some out-of-town crew like when Apple takes a Friday night Jays game. If Buck Martinez does decide to retire next season, he will have earned it. The man has given so much to the Blue Jays and their fans. Buck should know that in the broadcast booth he’s one of the best in a city filled with sports broadcasting champions.
  15. https://windsorstar.com/news/politics/military-chief-warns-china-and-russia-are-at-war-with-the-west/wcm/8437f064-8a57-469c-b501-cbd99f807d14 " Military chief warns China and Russia are 'at war with the West' and Canada is not ready Russia and China don’t differentiate between peace and war and are actively seeking to challenge the West, says Gen. Wayne Eyre TTAWA — Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Wayne Eyre, told MPs that Russia and China consider themselves to be at war with the West and Canada must rise to meet this challenge. Eyre was meeting with MPs at the Commons standing committee on national security to talk about the threat Russia poses to Canada. He said Russia and China don’t differentiate between peace and war and are actively seeking to challenge the West. “Russia and China are not just looking at regime survival but regime expansion. They consider themselves to be at war with the West,” he said. “They strive to destroy the social cohesion of liberal democracies and the credibility of our own institutions to ensure our model of government is seen as a failure.” Eyre said the threat is broader than the war in Ukraine, but a systemic effort to change the way the world has been structured. “The rules-based international order, which has underpinned world stability, and indeed our national prosperity for generations is faltering. It needs to be defended, the gravity of these times should be apparent to all.” Caroline Xavier, chief of the Communications Security Establishment, Canada’s cyber spy agency, told MPs that there is a growing concern about cybercrime, but state actors are also threatening the country. “The state-sponsored cyber programs of China, North Korea, Iran and Russia pose the greatest threat, strategic threat to Canada. Foreign cyber threat activities including Russian-backed actors are attempting to target Canadian critical infrastructure operators,” she said. Xavier said Russian-backed actors are trying to sow doubts and division about the war in Ukraine. “CSC noted that we had continued to observe numerous Russian-backed disinformation campaigns online aimed at supporting Russia’s brutal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine.” Eyre said this rising level of concern is happening just as the military faces a recruitment challenge. In other parliamentary testimony, military officers have said the forces estimate they’re 10,000 people short. The full complement of the Canadian Forces according to the most recent numbers includes 63,781 regular members, another 29,477 reservists and 5,241 Canadian Rangers. Eyre said getting the forces fully staffed again is a major concern and has become the overarching priority for the Forces. “I am very worried about our numbers and that’s why we’re putting as a priority effort the reconstitution of our military.” Eyre said they’re worried not just about getting new people into the Forces, but also ensuring current soldiers stay. To that end he said they’re focusing on issues around pay, but also ensuring CAF members have the right tools to do the job and opportunities for training. “The pandemic has not been kind to the Canadian Armed Forces, our numbers have shrunk. And so we’re embarking on a priority effort to get our numbers back up recruiting retention, so that we can provide that readiness.” A separate Commons committee has been studying whether the Forces is being used too often for disaster relief in Canada. The number of deployments for floods, fires and hurricanes has all risen in recent years. Eyre said the Armed Forces have to be available for disasters, but they are being used too often today. “With increasing frequency and intensity of these natural disasters, we’re called upon more and more to respond, not necessarily as a force of last resort, but in some cases the force of first choice.” Eyre declined to say whether the government should be spending more on defence, but said they unquestionably are facing a new environment in the future and Canada is not ready for it. “I am concerned that as the threats to the world’s security situation increase, the threats at home increase, our readiness is going down,” he said. “The military that we have today is not the military that we need for the threats that are occurring in the future.”
  16. They were both world class players, just too old. Hlinka, Sundstrom and Naslund in a tie for best wrist shot by a Canuck.
  17. Saw him put a guy into a full nelson once, tossed him into the glass and HELD him there. Dude was immensely strong. Would have been fantastic having he, and Hlinka in their prime, rather than 3 or 4 years past it.
  18. Just had my 4th shot. Lady at the front desk had heard my comments about being asked to go to Comox, Cumberland or Nanaimo before. " Yes, we get a lot of people saying that" "Don't know why the phone people can't figure it out". Ps- Flu shots will be available soon-without appointments.
