He was 80. The musician died on Sunday morning, his family confirmed in a statement shared on his official Twitter page. “We are very sad to say that Ginger has passed away peacefully in hospital this morning. Thank you to everyone for your kind words over the past weeks,” they wrote. The announcement came less than two weeks after his family said that the musician had been admitted to the hospital and was “critically ill.” “The Baker family are sad to announce that Ginger is critically ill in hospital. Please keep him in your prayers tonight,” the statement read. After a Twitter user asked if the statement was “for real,” Baker’s account replied, “Sadly yes.” Baker is best known for his work with Cream, which he co-founded with Eric Clapton in London in 1966. The third member of the band, bassist Jack Bruce, died in 2014 at the age of 71. Cream — which is widely cited as the original supergroup since all three members came from accomplished bands — sold 35 million albums in just over two years. The band was awarded the world’s first-ever platinum disc for their double album, Wheels of Fire, and produced psychedelic hits like “I Feel Free” and “Sunshine of Your Love.” They broke up in 1968 with little warning, at the height of their commercial success. As Clapton, 74, wrote in his 2007 autobiography, Clapton, the band was struggling at the time with an “inability to get along.” “We would just run away from one another,” he wrote. “We never socialized together and never really shared ideas anymore.” RELATED: Eric Clapton Reveals He’s Losing His Hearing, Suffering from Tinnitus © Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce | Michael Ochs Archives/Getty After briefly working with Clapton again in the supergroup Blind Faith and leading his own jazz-rock band, Ginger Baker’s Air Force, Baker spent several years in the ’70s living and recording in Africa. In 1993, Baker was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with Clapton and Bruce for their work with Cream. Years later, in 2005, the three reunited for Cream concerts in London and New York City. During an interview with Rolling Stone in 2013, Baker mentioned his health issues, saying, “I’ve got degenerative osteoarthritis, which is extremely painful.” “I’m on a regiment with a health service pain management control,” he continued. “Apart from that I’ve got COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) from smoking.” © Bobby Bank/WireImage Ginger Baker | Bobby Bank/WireImage In 2016, Baker’s daughter, Leda, posted a blog post on his website which said that Baker was “recovering very well” after “open heart surgery and a bad fall.” “He called the day after his surgery to say he was OK,” she wrote. “Albeit a rather disoriented and unintelligible conversation he was at least awake and aware. The fall has resulted in swollen legs and feet which he is seeing his doctor about in the next day or so. But although he is recovering, any performances in the near future seem over ambitious.” Baker is survived by his wife Kudzai Machokoto (whom he married in 2010) and his three kids from a previous marriage: son Kofi and daughters Ginette and Leda.
  2. Yes, but prep should be done for the short term chaos that will be involved.
  3. Canada better be getting ready for a few hundred thousand dual citizens to become permanent residents here .https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadians_in_Hong_Kong "In February 2011 research from the Asia Pacific Foundation, conducted with Hong Kong Baptist University, suggests there are at least 295,000 Canadians in Hong Kong, " That is a lot of people, and it could happen with in weeks or even days. China will not allow these protests, for much longer, before they start driving tanks over people.
  4. There are record catalogues out there like "Goldmine" and "Jerry Osborne" Record Price book as well. If it is in good to mint shape and isn't an Air Supply album it will sell for a minimum of $5 at a swap meet. Rent a $50-60 table on a Saturday or Sunday, stay for a few hours and sell a few records. My big problem with selling at swap meets is not buying more, new to me records, than I sold off.
  5. I've got between 5,000 and 6,000 lps, and am willing to add more. Hospital auxillary and thrift stores are a good place to look and many cities will have a record swap meet a couple of times a year.
  6. Check those records for what they are actually worth before giving them away. Some records are worth nothing more than the joy of listening to them, while others might be worth $50 a piece or more. Check https://www.discogs.com/ This site is not just vinyl but equipment too https://www.canuckaudiomart.com/classifieds/software/vinyl/.
  7. nah, seems it is some "fans" that like to drag people through the mud.
  8. Listed as a center and left winger by Cap Friendly and as C by this page here https://www.nhl.com/player/tim-schaller-8477213 But I should have said 5th line center, if everyone is healthy.
  9. Meh, $2 mill out, not that bad for a dyslexic.
  10. Yes, they kept the players that earned their spots and send down the ones that didn't. I don't think the Canucks are good enough yet, that the "discards" all get picked up by other teams; however I look forward to the day that every player the Canucks try to waive is snapped up by other teams. Would mean the Canucks have a really good line up.
  11. Loui is being paid $3 mill per year with a $6 mill cap hit, so sending him down would leave a $5 mill cap hit and a $3 mill paycheque. I never heard F. A. say anything about the Gagner money, but may have missed it.
  12. Yes, he has looked better, but is still the 4th line center and putting Gaudette in Sutter's spot with Sutter becoming the 4th liner would have given the team the ability to have 3 scoring lines and one defensively strong line. Looks like Schaller stays so Either Gaudette or Sutter will be playing wing.
  13. seems like the guy has been around for ever, but that's because he is in his 14th season.
  14. Maybe his back is feeling better, his confidence is back and the team around him is getting better?
  15. If "they" heard about it last week, and announce it now is it really "breaking" news?
  16. As a non participant, how about that pic and a Captain Underpants pic side by each?
  17. The facts as we know them A bunch of drunk young adults including AM are walking down the street. AM jiggles the door handle of a car with a lady in it. After a brief period of time she gets out and starts giving him a verbal reprimand AM walks away, then drops his pants, eposes his boxer shorts, grabs both "cheeks" and continues to walk away. Some people look at it like "youthful high jinks" Others see it as Attempted break and enter A possible prelude to a sexual assault. I see it as more the latter than the former and I wasn't the lady in the car. Simply put AM screwed up and has been charged, he will most likely be found guilty and any civil action taken by this security guard is more than warranted in this case. I'll add I don't care who the drunk guy was, don't care about his so called fame or his "implied" privilege to be an idiot just because of his money or job. I'm a single guy, no kids, But if that had been a daughter of mine I'd be picketing that condo until they kicked that drunken idiot out of the area, at the very least.
  18. It is actionable, did you not see the part where AM was charged with disorderly conduct?
  19. Anyone remember a guy named Sam Gagner? Seems the team dealt with that issue, by sending him off the Canucks.
  20. Depth means depth. Keeping Gaudette is as simple as sending down, or trading him if possible, Tim Schaller. If Schaller was good enough to make the team last year but not this year it means either the team is better, Schaller is worse, or a combo of the two. too many players is a much better thing than too few.
  21. What you call a mess is actually an opportunity. You talk about having extra bodies like it is a bad thing, instead of a credit to the organizational depth.
