  1. I wonder if Poleverine had something to do with this? Who knows how far the feud will go? Also wondering if they will have a bit about the Senators in the upcoming Deadpool 3.
  2. I'm really starting to wonder if Pete Walker is truly a 'guru' when dealing with pitchers. I know Buck and Dan mention him in almost glowing terms, but if credit is given for good times, then blame must be part of the bad times. Seems like the Jays only get half of the starting staff, and a few relievers going well at any one time.
  3. From the other thread; " ^ the disease that scares me the most. Loved her smile. Seemed like "good people". My condolences to her family and friends. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm not as up on medical stuff as I once was, but 8 yrs survival of early onset Alzheimer's is surprising to me. I am a former long term care aide, and during my training I met a client at Rest Haven Lodge in Sidney. He had been diagnosed with Early Onset, but was a walking, talking man, with symptoms of diminished capacity. Two months later, as I completed my practicum, I saw the same man at the Extended Care wing at Saanich Peninsula Hospital. No longer walking, talking or feeding himself. He didn't make it more than 6 months after that.
  4. I'm not a gambling guy and had never heard of the guy, until this little discussion about him between Donnie Taylor and some guy named Dave Pratt.

  6. just got back from Freshco Noticed that the bag of McCain's hash browns-which has been $2.99 for 900 grams for a few months; is now that price but is only 800grams now. Shrinkflation strikes again. 12.5 % smaller package, same high price. Add on- the product isn't all that great either, Sometimes fresh yellow spud bits, or cubes, other times russett cubes, or bits; and still have to pick out the black bits. I'll be price checking at Save-on, might be buying from them in the future.
  7. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/average-canadian-house-price-rose-to-716-000-in-april-up-by-100k-since-january/ar-AA1bd3Dc?ocid=msedgdhp&pc=U531&cvid=cf4a889d201e4e5e96b9b54425632341&ei=10 " After plunging due to interest rate hikes throughout last year, the average price of a Canadian resale home has now increased for four months in a row, new numbers showed Monday. The Canadian Real Estate Association said Monday that the average selling price of a home that sold on its MLS system in April went for $716,000. That's the fourth monthly increase in a row, and it marks a collective increase of more than $100,000 since the start of the year. After peaking at just over $816,000 in February 2022 — right before the Bank of Canada began its aggressive campaign of rate hikes — Canada's housing market went ice cold for much of last year, as drastically higher mortgage rates made it more expensive to finance the purchase of a home. Average prices bottomed out a few months later, at just under $630,000 in July. But after moving essentially sideways until the start of 2023, the market has seemingly resumed its upward momentum ever since. How house prices have changed in Canada's major cities Much of the rebound stems from an uptick in sales in the Greater Toronto Area and B.C.'s Lower Mainland, two parts of the country that saw both the biggest gains during the early days of COVID-19, and also the largest drawdown once rates went up. If numbers from those two markets are stripped out, the national average price drops by more than $144,000, to an average house price of $572,000 in places that are not Toronto or Vancouver. CREA, which represents more than 100,000 realtors across the country, says the number of homes that sold during the month increased by 11 per cent from March's level, but it's still almost 20 per cent below what it was during the feverish market of this time last year. "The snapback in sales, the firming in prices, and the bounce in starts in April all suggest that the housing market has found a floor," Bank of Montreal economist Doug Porter said.
  8. I know it worked out ok for us, but perhaps not for the Islanders. Who ever trades for Mathews can't give up too much, or they will end up being the team Mathews walks from. Bit of a dilemma- who can give up the assets and cap space for him, and still have a credible team left for him to play with.
  9. I wonder if anyone has tried to study/determine whether a player does play more seasons, if they don't play a certain amount of play off games.? Going to the finals means a minimum of 16 extra games, and it's not only them playing the games; but next years opponents are already at home recuperating and training.
  10. Trade any of them, some of them, or all of them; as long as the return is worth it. There are no 'have to keep' players on the team- other than those protected by contract clauses.
  11. Well Bo mostly runs the bases well, except for when he jogs to first base, watches the opponent drop an easy, easy fly ball; and then decides to try for second
  12. I don't really want either of those players, as neither are very physical, and come play off time I wonder where they go. They'd be ok; except we are full to the brim with that type already.
  13. you may wish to check again, I already did, and posted the cap hits, but you may wish to check for yourself. looked like a $312,366 diff to me.
  14. https://www.capfriendly.com/injury/players/filip-hronek " Dec. 14, 2022 Filip Hronek has a concussion. The expected duration is unknown." note the other injuries. https://detroithockeynow.com/2021/10/24/red-wings-hronek-healthy-scratch-against-habs/ " Filip Hronek took a seat on Saturday. As the defenseman watched, the Detroit Red Wings took it on the chin from the Montreal Canadiens. Hronek was a healthy scratch for the Red Wings’ 6-1 loss to the Canadiens at the Bell Centre. After the game, Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill acknowledged that health wasn’t an issue for Hronek. “Coach’s decision,”Blashill said of Hronek’s absence from the lineup. “Just a decision. “I said we got 8 D that I think are NHL defensemen. I made the decision to put Stech (Troy Stecher) in. Somebody has to come out.”
  15. some times weather report pages annoy me case in point this page says it's going to get to 29 degrees in Powell River. Yet when you look at the hourly predicted heat, the highest will be 25. https://www.msn.com/en-ca/weather/forecast/in-Powell-River,British-Columbia?loc=eyJsIjoiUG93ZWxsIFJpdmVyIiwiciI6IkJyaXRpc2ggQ29sdW1iaWEiLCJyMiI6IlBvd2VsbCBSaXZlciIsImMiOiJDYW5hZGEiLCJ0IjoxLCJnIjoiZW4tY2EiLCJ4IjoiLTEyNC41NDc5OTY1MjA5OTYxIiwieSI6IjQ5Ljg2NzAwMDU3OTgzMzk4NCJ9&weadegreetype=C&ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=3c540bf085a44f8699c1f09cee9de085 so, if it is up to me to decide- I'm hoping for 25.
  16. might have mentioned this earlier, in this thread, even. Is it still better to go "BPA" than positional need, given a salary cap world? Seems trades are not as easy as they once were. Has this or should this change the thinking?
  17. I hope for less. I do hope for more Schenn, and Burroughs types. Guys that play physical, with lower giveaways, and way less drama. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyhow- tis the wrong thread for this so back to the topic
  18. Maybe it will, maybe it won't. Was going up by $4 mill this season, until it wasn't. If everybody goes and plays in the middle of the highway, does that mean we have to, too? Buy outs are, imo, a silly thing to do. Mortgaging the future to pay off a self created problem is seldom a good thing.
  19. With a bad shoulder, previous concussion issues and has been scratched so that Troy Stetcher could play instead. Maybe pump the brakes a bit on Filip.
  20. Miller's deal hasn't even kicked in yet, and he's already trending downward. Maybe it is a 'team friendly' deal for the first 2-3 years, but the end of contract is going to either cripple the team, or cost a ton to get rid of. Letting Brock walk, for nothing, or now having to give up draft picks AND players to make cap space- which would be better to do? New shiny management, always looks better than old management. Key word "looks"; doesn't mean IS better- and even if it is better- it may not be good enough. A lot of short term planning going on, in the management and fan ranks. "Who cares about 3 years from now" "I'll just put this on my credit card and make the minimum payments for the next 10 years" "what could possibly go wrong with that?"
  21. Mathews will be 26 before next season starts. I'd be very careful on trade value.
