  1. Teemu and Kariya goofing around at a recent photo shoot is hilarious to watch.

  2. This has been coming for weeks. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that the Caps style of play of depending on set pieces and the counter attack game was never going to succeed when the games mattered. Good teams tighten things up and don't let themselves get beat by that style of play and come the stretch drive and playoffs and you only need to look at the record over the last few weeks to see that. Giving up possession game after game to sit back and wait for opportunities that may never come is a lousy way to play. I've found it difficult to watch this team and their style of play for at least a couple of months. They are what they are, and so long as Robbo is the coach and the team decides they're going to continue to not spend the money on a master class player or two, it'll remain a middling team year in and year out.
  3. This team has come together nicely. Good job boys.
  4. I didn't get a chance to watch the Barca/Juve game yesterday. Was Juve that bad or was Barca that good?
  5. What put it in perspective for me was that Shane didn't score more than 7 goals until his 5th season. Jake hit that total in 55 games in his first season. Just be patient people.
  6. I kinda feel like this tweet from CNN analyst Anna Navarro -- Only possible defensible explanation for Trump's disgusting, unpresidential, narcissistic behavior, would be early-on-set dementia. Maybe.

The only thing more puzzling than Trump is Trump supporters.

I saw Billy Bob walking through the doorway at Walmart in Bellingham today, wearing his "make America great again" tshirt. No really it was Billy Bob!

  7. Didn't see this posted yet, but apologies if it has. https://www.premierleague.com/gallery/402014 Home, away and thirds, see what each Premier League team will be wearing for the new campaign.
  8. I've been a bit down on the team this season, but credit where credit is due. It was a great road win, especially since it was 40 degrees. I guess Waston does make that big a difference.
  9. I don't want to beat a dead horse but the way Robbo deploys his players drives me nuts. At the end of the day, yes they possess the ball a bit more but the only way they ever seem to generate any chances is through corner kicks and set pieces. Otherwise this team is the same as its been for Robbo's tenure...easy to defend against. Doesn't give me much confidence in their ability to be a serious contender when the games start to tighten up down the stretch.
  10. My kid got dinged hard on bank charges, so I say to him tongue-in-cheek "maybe you need a financial panther".

  11. I really don't understand the mentality that many have that you're a bust if you haven't made it by the age of 20 or 21. While many believe the "Detroit model" is no longer valid, one only has to look at the two-time reigning Cup champ Penguins and their trio of "rookies" that weren't merely bystanders in their last two Cups but were major factors in both Cup wins. Matt Murray - 23 years old Bryan Rust - 25 years old Jake Guentzel - 22 years old Virt is still 20 so maybe he's not the problem, but rather people's expectations of what he or other rookies should be at a young age should be tempered.
  12. At least we can enjoy watching him live for a couple more years. I'd be very surprised if he's not with one of the big clubs in the BPL once he's 18.
  13. I really hope Virt eventually makes the team and goes on to a great career. But all that those top 10 goals show is that he's faster than a lot of junior players and was able to cut to the front of the net with ease. Nine out of ten of those goals don't happen in the NHL on a regular basis. He tried to play the same game when he first came up and it's why he was sent to Utica. He'll need to learn to work his tail off below the hash marks to get dirty goals if he wants a regular NHL job.
  14. Pepperidge Farm remembers.
  15. Wow it's nice to read some positive comments about the kids. From the highlights I saw, I haven't seen this much skill and speed since that toga party in year 2 of Commerce.
  16. We know, it's already all been hashed out in the Pettersson talk thread.
  17. Such an interesting pick. While size could be an issue, his speed, agility and dynamic skills hopefully compensate. Check out another small forward: Johnny Hockey - LW | 5' 9" | 157 lb | Age: 23 Gaudreau is 2 inches taller but 20 pounds lighter than Palmu (who's only 19). You can't hit what you can't catch so hopefully the kid does have an NHL future with us.
  18. If he can get to 185 lbs by the time he's 20, which I think would be reasonable, then hopefully he'll be ready to make to move here.
  19. An Italian in goal. My world is in balance again.
  20. Interesting pick as I was set on Glass, but I'm excited. Also a bit concerned that while he and Dahlen were dynamite together at the Worlds, when they didn't play together he wasn't that good. Good luck to him and hope he pans out.
  21. Every year with Canuck fans, it's the same expectations for our draft picks in that if the pick isn't in the starting lineup by the age of 20, they're a bust. Well, here's the age of the Pen's rookies who are driving the bus in these playoffs, two of which could well have their names on two Cups within their first 100 plus games. Jake Guentzel - 22; 40 NHL games played Brian Rust - 25; 112 NHL games played Matt Murray - 23; 62 NHL games played What's my point? None of them are under 22. In other words, the "Detroit model".
  22. In a covered stadium at that Alf. Hate soccer on artificial turf and the Whitecaps will never be able to attract top flight players until we get grass at BC Place.
  23. Disappointing second half by Juve. Were on their back foot the whole half and I don't think they even had an attempt on goal in the half did they? But gotta hand it to Real. They put Juve in the position. Modrić took over the game and just dominated in the middle. If this is indeed your last Champions League game, ciao é grazie per tutto gigi!
  24. Juve has turned this game around after Ronaldo's goal. They look strong.
