  1. You mean he's not there to greet Brock with papers in hand as Brock comes of the ice?
  2. This is a far different tone from Green than what we heard earlier this year. He sure has a way with bringing a player back down to earth, then building up their confidence. Love this.
  3. Not a bad game to watch. Basically hanging on for 90 minutes. I just really enjoyed watching the quality of Les Tigres. Beautiful passing, nice interplay and good buildups. Wish we could see more of that from MLS.
  4. This is why I believe there was pressure from ownership, either explicitly or implicitly, to draft Jake. Aquaman had a PR nightmare on his hands after the disaster that was the firing of Gillis and Torts, so what better way to turn around the wave of negativity that ownership was facing than by hiring Trev as the president then having JB draft the highly ranked local kid. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?
  5. I still don't see any good interplay between strikers, midfielders and backs in Robbo's system. Just look at what and how quickly the Earthquake have turned things around with Kinnear. That Lima goal was beautiful to watch. A direct result of piercing runs and interplay with the backs. The Caps system of of trying to lob long balls down field just doesn't work. Rarely do you see a buildup and good interplay from our team. It's going to be another long season.
  6. At some point he'll realize that his speed will actually give him more room to either go to the net or dish the puck.
  7. Was just listening to Boucher answer a reporters question about how Burr did in his first game. He talked about Burr's unbelievable story, then said from a systems standpoint, Burr had watched a bit of film and some drawings on a whiteboard and went in and played a perfect systems game for his first game. Hs said here's a guy who's spent the last 12 years playing a much different system coming in and even in practice was the one pointing out some things out in the defensive zone that these existing players are STILL struggling with. He mentioned that Burr hit, blocked shots and was everything Boucher wants his team to be. This after just one game. This stuff Boucher mentioned is where the team will miss Burr (and Hansen) the most. Setting an example for the young players coming in. The twins may be able to show the kids how to be professional off the ice, but Burr (and Hansen) were the leaders showing how to be professional on the ice.
  8. Also found this entertaining little read on their board posted by a Canuck fan. Congratulations on your recent purchase of an Alex Burrows, Veteran Edition™! In order to get the most out of your new winger, please read the following instructions carefully. You might have heard well-publicized complaints from earlier editions of the Alex Burrows. Please be assured that engineers have addressed this, and the Veteran Edition will not cause any issues with biting or hair yanking. (We cannot, however, ensure the product will not aggravate, irritate or otherwise harass anyone wearing either a Boston Bruins or Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. This issue has caused few complaints from owners, however, and any occurrences should at least prove entertaining.) If you want to get the most out of him, care and maintenance of your Alex Burrows are paramount. Here are some suggestions to maximize your enjoyment. Be sure to store your Alex Burrows on a cool bench next to young, energetic players. You’ll find that your Burrows will help keep your rookies fresh, energetic, focused and productive. If you notice your Burrows is the first on and last off the ice, don’t fret; that behavior is normal and is well within product parameters. To keep your Burrows happy and healthy, be sure to feed him a good amount of penalty kill minutes each game. This will keep him sharp and chippy, and it should also improve the disposition of your goaltender. Additionally, for best results, be sure to place your Burrows in clutch situations. In particular, you will find him effective in slaying dragons and busting slumps. You might be unsure exactly where to situate your Burrows. Good news! You will find he is very adaptable to different environments, and will thrive in almost any situation. Try him in various spots throughout your lineup and choose the role where he seems the happiest. He does best when planted alongside an identical set of franchise twins, but has also been noted to excel next to a 21-year-old dynamic centre. There are a few caveats any Burrows owner should be aware of. He does not respond well to potato farmers and exposure should therefore be limited to avoid potential altercations. It should be noted that it’s quite common for a Burrows to be unintelligible in both English and French. If you don’t understand what your Burrows is saying, either ask him to repeat or just smile and nod. Additionally, the vocal pitch of your Alex Burrows might shift in proximity to a Marc Crawford, but the effect is temporary and should have no impact on his performance. Lastly, don’t be surprised if shortly after you plant him in your community, your Burrows grows roots. The fruit of a Burrows plant is very healthy and should be a welcome addition to your city. One final note: your new Burrows may result in a large number of west coast hockey fans joining your playoff bandwagon. They can be spotted by their natural green coats and playful-yet-cynical dispositions. Be kind to them, they probably just miss their Burrows very much. © 2017 Vancouver Courier - See more at: http://www.vancourier.com/pass-it-to-bulis/the-official-alex-burrows-user-manual-1.10555304#sthash.Mc5vtiFU.dpuf
  9. Found thus on the Sens board. Watched it all the way into work today.
  10. So happy to see him pot two tonight, especially with his parents there. That jersey looks awful on on him though.
  11. But will also cut to the middle and go straight to the net. Me likey.
  12. I don't think we're as slow as we were a year ago. And with these new prospects, including Cammarosa, we'll have a lot more speed. Don't disagree we'll need some additional physicality in the lineup, but to be fair, the team is in transition so I'm confident JB understands that. Just look to what his mentor Chiarelli is doing in Edmonton with the addition of guys like Maroon, Lucic, and Kassian to support the skilled guys. I think that's JB's mindset as well.
  13. I hope this thread stays open while he's in Ottawa. Will be a good way to keep tabs on him.
  14. The way I look at it is that he's not part of this team right now and may not be for a couple more years...if at all. As a defense mechanism to avoid being constantly frustrated and disappointed, I'm just assuming the worst (that he doesn't pan out) so if and when he does make it back to the big club ready to contribute, in my mind it'll simply be a huge bonus and pleasant surprise. Till then, there's nothing really to discuss.
  15. Can't compare them. Lemieux didn't have high end skill, but had an intensity and work rate that we can only dream that Jake will eventually show us. He showed up when it mattered most... The playoffs. There's a case to be made that he should be in the hall of fame simply based on his playoff achievements. Jake on the other hand has all the tools to become an impact player in this league some day, but unless he can show the same grit and intensity night in night out, he'll only be a fringe NHL'er.
  16. Yordy Reyna Undergoes Surgery on Left Foot New Vancouver Whitecaps Addition Out Until Summer It is bad people. Just as we feared. The Vancouver Whitecaps announced this afternoon that “Yordy Reyna underwent successful surgery...for a fifth metatarsal fracture of his left foot”. In normal words, he fractured the bone above his pinky toe. Carl Robinson stated that he hopes to have the youngster back training (not playing, but training) by the beginning of the summer. So, don’t expect to see Reyna making an appearance for the Whitecaps until.....July. I told you it was bad. It is worth noting that this is similar to Kekuta Manneh’s injury last season, at the beginning of July. Manneh broke (not fractured) his fifth metatarsal in his right (not left) foot. Seems we need to add some pinky toe exercises (or guards) into training (and games). What are your thoughts about this announcement? What does this mean for the team, formation, and potential additional signings? I must say, the Whitecaps have had some bad luck with Edgar and now Reyna. We could even add Bolanos into that mix. http://www.eightysixforever.com/2017/2/21/14695184/vancouver-whitecaps-yordy-reyna-undergoes-surgery-on-left-foot
  17. Don't get too excited folks, according to Linden they're not going to sign him anytime soon as they feel he needs to develop a bit more physically. When asked about signing him after their season ends, Linden replied: “We haven’t come to a full conclusion on that, but speaking now I would say that physically he has got a ways to go,” added Linden. “For him to have another great summer of training and another great year and then make his transition to pro, is probably the direction that he’s leaning and we fully support that. “It’s really important that when he does make the move to pro that he’s in a spot where he’s physically mature and mentally ready for it. It won’t be a waste of a year for him because he’s committed to getting better.” http://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/gaudettes-rapid-ncaa-scoring-rise-has-canucks-mapping-pro-plan
  18. With so many options on offence, the concern for Wally could become trying to keep everyone happy. Is there enough ball to go around?
  19. I'm having a hard time getting past those blue triangles. Uuuugh.
  20. Thanks for confirming Sid. Great news all around. Hope we can sign Atiba. Good job Robbo, I'm officially excited about this season now.
  21. For sure. Still just a rumor but if it happens, the Caps will have redeemed themselves in my view. Exactly the type of striker we need. Knows the league so is comfortable with the travel and turf. Oh, and he's a scoring machine.
  22. This is where I give Wally credit for taking the high road. I don't think Wally will take RP's reaction personally at all. He expects that from players like RP (and Geroy) who've played at such a high level for so long because of their high standards and expectations, which are the reason's why Wally kept them around so long to begin with. Would not be surprised that once RP retires, he'd eventually makes his way back to the organization in some capacity, just like Geroy.
