  1. No kidding. That's a spot I haven't seen him in for quite a while. Travis working his magic.
  2. Just listening to Travis on the pre-game show talking about how impressed he is with Demko. Mentioned that the true ability of a pro player is shown in his ability to take his game to another level under challenging circumstances and that with Bachman out, Demko's doing just that. Glad to hear this.
  3. Ooops, Yeah you're right. I kind of glossed over that. Not sure what I was thinking. Well, I'm back to not purchasing.
  4. Really hope they don't bring him back just because of a handful of good games. He really needs to stay down there this season and then determine if he's ready.
  5. Not necessarily a good thing. Not taking away from the goal, but in the videos I've seen of him in Utica so far and as this video shows, he insists on playing the perimeter game instead of crashing the net with the puck and creating havoc. I really hope we start to see that in his game.
  6. OK, now we're talking. These are just rumours mind you, but this would definitely make me buy the system, even with a GPU that wouldn't be able to make third party titles look as good running on current gen consoles. Not a deal breaker though for the chance to play my gamecube (and hopefully Wii) collection of games. http://ca.ign.com/articles/2016/12/07/nintendo-switch-will-run-gamecube-virtual-console-games-says-report NINTENDO SWITCH WILL RUN GAMECUBE VIRTUAL CONSOLE GAMES, SAYS REPORT Sh BY WESLEY COPELAND The Nintendo Switch may be getting GameCube Virtual Console support. Three separate sources have confirmed the existence of GameCube titles running via the Switch’s Virtual Console to Eurogamer. The site says three games have already been prepared and already run on the Switch, the games in question being Super Mario Sunshine, Luigi's Mansion and Super Smash Bros. Melee. A fourth game, Animal Crossing, is also apparently currently being tested. The number of past platforms to run on Switch is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo. Eurogamer also heard rumblings of an upgrade program similar to what’s been seen on Wii U, whereby owners of the previous games can purchase the game on Switch for a discounted price. The compatibility work is seemingly being handled by Nintendo European Research and Development (NERD), the same team responsible for the NES Mini. Finally, Eurogamer reports that Nintendo is also currently working on a way to utilise the Wii U GameCube controller adaptor on Switch, but a decision about the reality of this is yet to be finalised. Both the Switch and Nvidia Shield share a common GPU – the powerful mobile gaming Tegra chip. The Shield, in fact, is capable of emulating up games up to the quality of the Wii – meaning the Switch's chip is notionally powerful enough to run GameCube and Wii titles. With Nintendo allowed full access to the Switch’s Tegra chip, it’d be easy to see how the House of N would be able to get GameCube, and perhaps even Wii titles, running smoothly.
  7. Remember when Philip Larsen made the team and Stecher didn't? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
  8. Has he confirmed this? Anyway, IF he turns pro next season then yes it will be interesting.
  9. Why? No guarantee he'll turn pro. And if he does, no guarantee he'll make the team right away. If he does make the big squad though it will be interesting for sure.
  10. It was great game. and you're right, kudos the fans there. it was very loud. if someone was just tuning in and didn't know who was playing, the look, setting and loudness at the stadium gave it the feel of a premiership game. The 60,000 at Olympic Stadium last week were the same. Great showing by both sets of fans.
  11. One of the best football games I've seen in a long long time. Looked good in the packed BMO Field. Sounded good. That crowd was loud. I flipped over to the Broncos game during commercials and it was so quiet compared to this game. Great game.
  12. Yet while we have a good player in Bo, a project in Jake, some promising prospects on the way in Boeser, Demko and Juolevi, for all the losing we've done the last four years and losing to come in the next few years, we still don't have that top class core of four as you've noted above, with no masked hero on the horizon. And while I'm trying to be patient with Jake and "the plan", management and ownership have little history of being patient themselves. They've already wasted two years of Jakes development and when I hear that the Sabres have scouts in Utica, it makes me feel very uneasy that another first round pick will be moved for an attempt at an quick fix.
  13. Agreed. Which is why Aquaman will trade him to the Sabres.
  14. Maybe I should have been more clear. What I meant to say was that with pretty much zero's across the board (had one game with a quite a few shots) I would at least hope a big body like him would at least be involved on the physical side of things. And having him become a physical presence and maybe even playing on the edge on a consistent basis is big part of why he was drafted so high and why he's down in Utica right now. IMO, playing physically and on the edge means you'll probably get some penalties along the way. I believe most coaches don't mind penalties as long as they're not of the lazy variety. Seeing zero PIM's along with zero goals, zero assists and zero shots after five games makes me wonder what if anything he's doing out there. Not complaining about his scoring, but I expect to see some PIM's from someone who's game is supposed to be physical and heavy.
  15. Last night (or maybe the game before) he had ZERO goals, ZERO assists, ZERO shots. Yikes. One point (an assist) in his first five games played with ZERO penalty minutes. Miserable stats for a power-forward. He's either very disciplined or very disinterested. I have a feeling we may not see him again this year, which isn't a bad thing. 16. Not really, as they're our top pairing. Signing someone who at best is your 4th dman who provides zero offence is another story. Giving Guddy that money and term means that on defense, other dominos will have to fall (see Alf's post). And if one of them does get traded, who's the other first pairing dman? Certainly not Guddy. While that dollar amount and term isn't obnoxious relative to other dmen on the team and around the league, what Guddy provides for that amount and term isn't the best value imo. Yes he's young, but I don't believe he'll bring much more than what we've already seen from him.
  17. But will fans be excited at what he brings when it'll cost us at least $5MM per for 6 years for a dman that brings zero offence?
  18. Burr looks rejuvenated suddenly and kind of looks like the Burr of old. Amazing what can happen when you play a warrior with players with some talent.
  19. I missed Bo's comments. What did he say?
  20. Bob Mckenzie has some interesting comments about Jake: If the Canucks want Kane, and we have every reason to believe as much, it's going to cost them more than Jake Virtanen. It would likely cost them one of their premier young defenders, which makes sense, given the Canucks strength in that area long-term and the Sabres need. On a micro level, it's telling to some extent of how far Virtanen's star has fallen. Here we are, two years removed from the Canucks selecting Virtanen sixth overall, and they can't secure an oft-injured, generally unwanted and abusive top-six scorer with that player. It's not a glowing endorsement of what Virtanen brings as a player leaguewide. Or even what he could bring, for that matter. Virtanen wasn't brought up solely regarding the Kane sweepstakes. McKenzie broached on Vancouver's plan for Virtanen "it doesn't look good from the outside looking in". McKenzie continued "I'm sure [Virtanen] is probably confused to some degree. Yet, at the same time, it's the national hockey league - they expect you to figure it out". I don't know about the "elite pick" bit, but the rest makes sense. Virtanen isn't keeping pace with his peer group. Not even close. There are no less than seven forwards producing more in higher leverage roles from the first round of the 2014 NHL Draft. Count Jared McCann among them. That would be a difficult pill to swallow. Especially when the player in question doesn't feel they're afforded the opportunity to even show he can hang with his peer group. "The [Canucks] have a lot invested in him". Mckenzie added "any elite pick - and he was an elite pick - doesn't like that notion of 'hey, I'm not where my peer group is, they're starring in the league right now, and I'm in Utica' if that's the case. Sometimes that's what it takes to deliver the wake-up call, to deliver the solid work ethic to go along with the tools that you've got". McKenzie went on to add that maturity has come into question with Virtanen, saying "maybe [mental makeup, maturity and the ability to cope with adversity] aren't where his skating and skill level are at". Not much we didn't already know, but still interesting hearing from an outsider. http://canucksarmy.com/2016/11/15/bob-mckenzie-on-the-canucks-evander-kane-and-a-number-of-other-topics
  21. Yup. I guess this was the point of the post. Don't know how much clearer the coaches can make it for him.
  22. I picked out the paragraph below from todays Province Sports for a couple of reasons. It shows the side of the Virt Plan that people seem to gloss over, which is that the coaches are trying to instill habits that will help Jake for the rest of his career. I like that the coaches are not handing him a roster spot. Notice any improved team play towards the end of the road trip after Jake was sent down? Coincidence? My worry is that when you read Jakes' comments, he still seems to be having issues understanding what is being asked of him, day in and day out, and not just on some shifts. The message from the coaches seems to be pretty clear in terms of needing a consistent work ethic from him every day. The fact that he still doesn't know what the plan is for him is disconcerting. And this is why I'm convinced he needs to be in Utica for a long spell. To get rid of this sense of entitlement and learn how to earn your spot everyday. Personal talks with guys like Burr and the twins aren't sinking in and only go so far. He needs to learn the lesson by going through it in Utica. Anyhoot, enjoy: Willie Desjardins likes certain parts of Virtanen’s game — size, skating and hitting — but consistently references inconsistencies in the sixth overall 2014 draft pick. The coach liked how hard Virtanen practised Monday — and that’s a broad hint of what’s missing — but he wasn’t in the four-line mix. Virtanen won’t play Tuesday against the New York Rangers. Maybe Thursday against the Arizona Coyotes or Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks. Or, maybe next week. Or not. So, again, what is the plan? “I don’t know yet,” said Virtanen. “I don’t know exactly what he (Desjardins) sees in his mind — but you have to be good every shift. I think that’s what he means. It’s stuff without the puck. It’s moving my feet, and that’s the one thing I learned in Utica.
