  1. The 7 goals in the third kind of reminded me of the SCF blow outs. The opposition scores a goal and puts on some pressure and this team folds like a cheap lawn chair, allowing quick goals in succession. I see this in minor hockey, but in the NHL? My God!
  2. We can only hope. But the way things are going, they'll win just enough to screw up getting the potential high pick as well.
  3. While I agree Torts needs to go, what would be the damn point of firing him now with 17 games to go? It's not like we could turn it around and make a run. And why would management want that with a top 7 pick within reach. Position ourselves for as high a pick we can get then fire him after the season ends. Right after Aquilini fires Gillis.
  4. No he would've become the instant starter with Thomas backing him up. But Tallon realized that with the history between the two, he didn't want to have it become a distraction and controversy, so made an instant decision to trade Thomas.
  5. On a positive note, Edler's -2 moves him -27 and into third for the overall worst plus/minus in the league, and only 2 behind the leader. Go Eddy, you can do it!!!
  6. He's the guy who signed our beloved captain and his brother for another 4 years is he not?
  7. Exactly. When your captain and supposed mentor and team leader(s) does that, what's the rest of the team to think. You'd never see Toews or Crosby pull that crap. This team won't move forward until the twins retire.
  8. I wouldn't care as much about the result if the players were working their asses off. We need a complete overhaul. Too slow and no flow. Take a note of who we're playing tonight Mike Gillis. First trade made by Jim Nill was before his first game as a GM and he traded one of his top 2 or 3 players to get a game breaker. We need a Tyler Seguin type player back from the trading of our core players. Listening to Gillis yesterday talk about balance and depth, sounds like his plan is to go out and get more mediocre players that could play in the top 6 if the stars and the moon are all in alignment. Oh Mikey, and about that coach you just signed for 5 years. The coach you should have hired is behind the other bench. Bravo Mike.
  9. LOL! Way ahead of you. Watching that and listening to the Baller on the team. Waaaaaaay better.
  10. Hey Mikey, Why don't you have a sit-down with Jim Nill to have him teach you how to make a REAL trade.
  11. Forwards are crossing the blue line and simply dumping the puck in then immediately start skating backwards. No forechecking structure at all. And to boot the forwards aren't coming back and picking up their man to help the d-men. So frustrating to watch this team.
  12. Sadly, I'm starting to yearn for the days of McCaw's hands-off ownership approach. The slum-lords are !@#$%'ng this team by not letting management do their job. Maybe this is why Gillis has the job in the first place. No self-respecting real GM wants to have their owner breathing down their necks on these player decisions. Looks like we're in for a Jerry Jones like run of mediocrity.
  13. Just reported on Primetime Sports. No reports yet of what, if anything, is coming back.
  14. I think this might be fair if Maatta is not included. I like this and it's probably more realistic than Johansen.
  15. I'm thinking along these lines as well. A contending team looking to add Kes is probably not going to move a top 6. I'm OK with this as long as the prospects and picks coming back are bumped up a notch. We're going into retool/rebuild mode anyway so there's no reason for Gillis to blow an opportunity at getting some high end talent coming back just because he needs a 25 year old second line centre. Besides, I'd rather have the kids coming up plus any new prospects we get in the trade to all be within a few years of age so that they can grow together as a core, much like our old core did.
  16. Exactly. A year ago, the Capitals traded what was widely considered to be the best prospect not in the NHL last year in Filip Forsberg for a 31 year old Martin Erat who was barely playing in Nashville. GM's desperate to keep their jobs or prevent rivals from getting better can do strange things sometimes.
  17. That deal still makes me shake my head. The fact that they picked up Forsberg for a disgruntled 31 year old guy that was barely playing was shocking. Any deal for Kes has to include a top end prospect like Forsberg as a starting point.
  18. I thought it was Maatta. From the various sources I've read, Maatta is their best D-man prospect in 40 years and close to untouchable. But Pouliot does look intriguing.
  19. Agreed. But once again we can't really be surprised by this can we? We know he's always been emotional guy, but we have a goalie who doesn't want to be here because of what's happened here over the last 2 1/2 seasons. So here's Lui, maybe still disappointed from not being THE guy in Socchi, feeling humiliated once again by this team that he's given his all to. Maybe the comments were uncalled for, but I thought they were funny and a nice jab at a GM who fully deserved it. The reality is Lui has played the good soldier throughout the last couple of years, and if this GM couldn't foresee that ANOTHER drama could possibly unfold by bringing Lui back this year, then he's more of an idiot than I thought. All this drama once again is exactly why when Gillis and Aquaman realized last summer they could not trade him, they HAD to buy him out, and by not doing so they've brought all this on themselves. I've loved Lui as a goalie, but I'm tired of the drama that's followed him and this team for the last 3 years. It's time for him to go. Hopefully Mike Gillis isn't too far behind him.
